i can give you some tips running on vff if we ever meet.. I also used my new vff in scklm.. not exactly first time wearing it, i used it for hiking in gunung nuang, also did my tioman eco challenge once.. both >6hours event..

first you would need to run in barefoot (find a grass field or a smooth (just repaved) road to practice. I cant stress enough to adapt in minimalist we need to train our leg muscle to get used to it.. I only wore my vff for my first 10k race after 3 months of training.

Also make sure it's the right size (too big will cause too much internal movement (did you train with socks or without?) now i wear them with socks but i train without one.

Blister is quite normal.. make sure if wash them clean if you are poking them out

I ran the 10k SCKLM in my VFF KSOs.
If you have the time I suggest the book "Barefoot Running Step by Step" by Ken BoB Sexton.
In it he details a barefoot running style that can be used while running in VFFs and the progression plans so that you don't injure yourself.

I guess what's important is the style of running rather than what the runner is wearing. Hence I consider kaki ayam, VFF, Merrell barefoot or any minimalist shoe wearer == barefoot.

Any changes to your running? I notice when i change to barefoot my langkah becomes shorter but faster frequency. Hope I'm making sense here... hehehe.

On another note, I'm thinking of joining Putrajaya Night Marathon (10km) http://www.bsnpnm.com/

Anyone ran it last year? Well organized or fiasco like the Energizer Night Run?
*
I train barefoot but taking a rest now after running the stanchart 10k (time 49:48) in VFF KSOs.
I can run barefoot comfortably up to 10k.
I usually run barefoot at Lake Gardens and KLCC where I am pretty confident that the are minimal risks of broken glass etc.
The main issue with barefoot running during races is that you don't want to worry about surface texture and dangerous objects while you race which is the reason I raced the stanchart in VFFs.
IMO, efficient running principles do not change whether you are barefoot or shod.
However, for running barefoot, the more conditioned the soles of your feet are, the more comfortable it is for you to exert more force while running, and thus go faster.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I've been saving money to buy VFF... they are not cheap sad.gif

When do you run at Lake Gardens? Can I join you? Would appreciate comments about my running posture from a fellow barefoot runner.

I wish i can ran as fast as you... my current pace is around 7 minutes per KM.

You don't need VFF, as they're not the only minimalist shoes.
I recommend Merrell's Road Glove @ RM349 but the stack height is 10mm.
The DIY Huaraches looks interesting but I've never tried them.

I am not running now due to injury that has not been diagnosed, so if wanna meetup maybe after Raya since I wont be running much (if at all) when fasting.
A caveat tho, I am still learning myself. The injury I incurred may be due to poor technique.

However, if u really are interested in learning, I recommend the book by Ken Bob Saxton "Barefoot Running Step by Step" which can be found at Kinokuniya.

I am planning to run while fasting for the first time this year.
So, I would appreciate some pointers.
Do u run slower than usual or at the same pace?
Do u sahur in the early morning or before going to sleep?
What about water intake?

Anyone running outside now in KL with the haze?
I've been doing all my runs on the treadmill lately and would love to go run outdoors but I'm worried about running in the haze.

2. Polar (any model)
3. Timex (any model)

Hi Tenno, thanks for your recommendation.
Do all of the brands above have a cadence sensor?
Any specific model that you recommend for each brand? (GPS function would be a plus)
My specific concerns are durability and reliability as well as budget (<RM1,500)

Hi guys,
Any good places for trail running near KL/Selangor?
I need to diversify my running surface.
Thanks!
