so, if it's new but not in box then no tax? But if it's in box then tax?

Please excuse me for using "new in box" as the term and seems that you picking on me with that word. Do let me define that new in box = sealed item = unopened item. In order word, it's new item that still sealed in their package (e.g, box).

I believed anyone know that anything sealed in their package is new item and the custom officer could tell too. Beside, I don't think they have guideline to define new item or not when it's not sealed in box. Because people could use their things for months and it's still look new.

My advice to you is never take a layoff package unless you are getting more than 6 months payback. If it's only one or 2 months, just let it go and move to your new company.

Moreover being layoff is not favourable for your portfolio if you really apply for big companies that do background check. You might save another employee because your boss don't need to layoff someone but choice is yours to consider.

I have worked and stayed in Singapore for nearly 20 years and I just came back to KL and work this month. Can PM me if you need questions answered. smile.gif

Thanks for your advice. My management seems prefer me to take package instead. I did told them earlier why not just accept my resignation so i can leave earlier too...
Anyway I'm still awaiting documents from them...

Hi guys need some advice.

I got an offer from an SG company. want to pay me sgd 2200 per month. Yeah I know its low. I didnt expect to be offered a position in SG as the company has Malaysian Branch.

Anyway do u guys think I can survive with this amount of money? The company provides transport from MRT to workplace so I dont have to bring my car.
I am a smoker so that will burn through my wallet right? I dont eat a lot. I can survive with milo and bread for breakfast, some lunch and no dinner.

appreciate your advice.

Hi guys, my situation is like this, a young married couple, got job offer in the UK, however due to working permit application is still in process and it takes time, my employer is suggesting me to work from their SG office until my UK working permit is sorted, may be only 2 - 4 months time (im guessing)

Questions:

1. The office is in this post code 169204 , from google map i understand it is not near to JB, but I'd like to know if I travel from JB daily by a car, how much time should I be expecting and money on fuel or tol?

2. How easy to find room for couple (that allows cooking tongue.gif )? I read many forums and advertisement, most room i saw so far are for single person and do not allow cooking, I am asking this because my wife loves cooking and that is the activity she can do at home while I work.

Any ideas or thought are welcome!! Million thanks in advance!! notworthy.gif

1.You can use this website, (gothere)it is easier to use plus it give you all the information you needed. just put on the search textbox, like woodland checkpoint to 169204, then you will get what you looking for.

2. couple room, that is one of most difficult room to find, but if you willing to paid higher, you can find one. cooking wise you need to find room without owner, but normally they also allow light cooking only, no oily cook, your wife just follow you here and not working? just waiting to go UK with you?but room for rent only 2-4 month quite hard to find. hmm.gif

maybe u can opt to rent a whole house in JB? then drive to SG ? Because like yhoong12 already said...normally there will be a min lease...12months..else most of the landlord/owners will not rent out...unless u get agents to help u look around(agent commission is 1/2 month's rental) for a 12 month lease....so in your case i'm not sure what's the agent commission gonna be like for a short 3-4 months stay

169204 seems to be located here
http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel...vel_site_12260/
Also for you to work in SG for 2-4months u will still need to get an Employment Pass(EP)...

I suggest you to currently stay put as where u r...then make your move to UK....just skip SG...too short a stint and too much of hassle

Absolutely agree. Unless the company is paying for and organising everything, don't bother coming to SG for only a few months. Take a few months break... freelance, do pro bono / charity or something.

If you just renewed your permit or re-entry permit, then you got to wait a week before the system gets updated. Else just go to ICA building in Lavender to update your infor or check on it.

Their percentage among the OnG and shipyard industry is indeed higher then in other industries in singapore. But it wasnt like in the heydays of the 70-90s where nearly all of the menail work were done by them and now being replaced by indians, banglas etc.

I guess the cases against them must be numerous since their numbers are dwindling even before this supposed ban was imposed. I usually meet sarawakian or sabahans in the middle east or africa on board "work boats" doing offshore projects as the deckhands of said ships.

Male natives? Does that mean Chinese is excluded from the list?

My brother, who is 22 y/o and unskilled, has just entered Singapore last week.. last I heard, he hasn't obtained his working permit, though he is now working at a restaurant

If he is caught, he might be blacklisted and barred from working in Singapore, I assume?

My parents follow up with him every day. Now, he sleeps on sofa and has to walk 45 minutes to work every day
