Why does internal memory shows 4.99GB instead of 8GB and 358MB instead of 512MB RAM
This is because the remaining space is reserved for the system that are required to run in your phone, thus you only get 4.99GB. That goes the same for RAM.

My GPS takes a very long time to lock my position
Download this: [attachmentid=3370590] extract it and replace it in systems/etc and set permission to rw-r-r and then reboot. root is required.

I'm on limited data plan, how can I block certain apps to access internet?
Get android firewall from market, you can set which app to allow 3G access, etc..

Are there any good file manager other than My File?
Root explorer is recommended. However if you don't want to purchase it there are other alternative such as ES File Explorer and astro file manager.

Some apps are requesting to read my sms and make calls
use LBE Privacy Guard to block those apps.

New to android? some battery saving tips.
-Disable Background Data syncing: Settings > Accounts & sync > Untick Background data.
-Disable Mobile Data: Disable the Mobile Data option from Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > mobile data
-If Your Phone struggles to find a 3G Connection, Disable 3G: Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks > Network mode > GSM only. NOTE: this will disable 3G and your phone will only use 2G for data (Eg: EDGE)
-Use the “BACK” button to exit apps rather than just hitting “HOME”. Using “BACK” appears to store them as “inactive” apps, whereas “HOME” just leaves the app as “Background” task which appears to use more CPU.
-THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! If you log in to the application latitude, make sure you sign out after that, leaving it sign in will keep the app alive the whole time.

Why is my battery life is poor?
It can be cause by many reasons, as well as usage. Just make sure no apps that is causing wakelock. Some apps will prevent your phone from entering deep sleep mode, to know which apps is causing this, download "BetterBatteryStats" from XDA, donate version is available in market.

Will S Plus receive future updates from Samsung?
No. However, Samsung has released an update that includes some features from android version 4.0. Alternatively, there are a lot of custom rom which are based on the latest version of android that you can flash.

Android hidden "secret"
Go to settings, about phone, and click on "firmware version" many times. something will appear. If it doesn't, try again other time.

TIP: if you want to remove those apps installed by Samsung, you need to Root your phone, then get Titanium Backup Pro and freeze those apps, this way if anything goes wrong you can reverse the process without having to re-flash. WARNING: make sure the apps you want to disable is safe to do so, otherwise it might cause problem. If you are on a lower version you have 2 ways to upgrade:
1) upgrade using KIES.
2) flash using Odin.
Note: After flashing DXLD3 firmware, enter *#272*YOUR IMEI# from your phone, you will see a list of CSC code, select the XME and you're done.

What is Odin?
Odin allows you to flash any ROM that you like, you can flash ROM from other regions such as europe or even taiwan. With odin you can also flash one package file. Note: If you are using SEM set, be sure you flash back to our region ROM before sending it back to warranty. Refer the link above for files.

Stuck in Galaxy S plus logo/android logo/bootloop?
First wipe data/cache/dalvik cache in recovery, then follow niesma84 instruction in page 66 of this thread Post #1316. If that still doesn't work then you have to restore your nandroid backup (if you have one) or reflash your ROM again.

What is recovery or CWM 5/6/TWRP?
A custom recovery that allows you to backup your entire ROM, flashing certain rom, appyling tweaks, wiping data, etc. Very useful if you always flash different ROM.
Note 1: You do not need to root your phone to install a custom recovery.
Note 2: ICS/JB rom requires a specific recovery, so if you are using stock recovery and wish to flash to those rom, you need to first install this.
1. Download the file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1694617
2. Place it in your phone, switch it off and go to recovery mode (vol up + power button)
3. Choose install update from zip.
Now you can backup your ROM through recovery and install any ROM that you like.

samsung galaxy s plus vs samsung galaxy w,which 1 is better? i mean the spec

processor and chipset is the same..
only difference is screen size, display and internal storage 4gb (w) and 8gb (S+)

There's one thing I wanted to confirm with S+
Is the sound processor and DAC in S+ the same as the original S?

I'm very interested in the original S as the all the reviews concur that Galaxy S has one of the best audio output of all the smart phone in the market.

Not really sure my fren....some said same audio as old SGS and other else said are not (different chip)
i'm still googling what chip using in this phone..this bcoz there a few user asked "supercurio" (voodoo apps of old SGS) make one for this model and he said sound are slightly diff than old one...

the old SGS using humming bird...samsung own chipset and the new one are completely diff....qualcomm chipset

so make ur own pick....choose it wisely...

Good job guys for V2!

After updating to official 2.3.5 from Kies, i noticed after the 2nd charge that there is an improvement in battery life.

Before on 2.3.3, with my wifi always on and using 3G for about 1 hour a day i could last for a day and a half. Now with the new 2.3.5, i can last for two and a half days.

hey. any risk for rooting the phone?
will it become bricked?
im scared after experienced once

but when in the recovery mode.. the update abort..
my version is 2.3.5 gingerbread
which file u use to flash ur icon?

u try follow my steps above. the way i did it no need to enter recovery mode, just need to copy and replace system files only

maybe has done it and so far nobody brick their phone by rooting. so don't worry

sgs plus battery more lasting than s2. but s2 more lighter then sga plus

Q: What benefits does rooting gives?
A: Quite a lot, some market apps depend on root.
Currently rooting gives you the following:
Bluetooth File Transfer(OBEX)
Put apps folder on SD card (app2SD)
Full Backup
Full control over the phone

yes after u root u can move to mem card.
if ur phone ca'nt turn on then i think no way u can unroot it.
but, if im not mistaken if ur phone cant turn on means mobo spoil edi, in which case u no need to worry they find out u root ur phone as the whole mobo need to change

I got my sgs+ last friday .. ^^

at first i used KIES to flash but failed
after that i tried ODIN, u have to go in to DOWNLOAD MODE

there are so many things i don't know.. i've been playing with my phone and i wanna confirm this does the camera have zoom? Cause it tells me i don't have zoom

Use volume button to zoom or pinch the screen like how u zoom in ur browser

i m using camera 360 ultimate it tells me my phone has no zoom...

same here..when usimg 360, camera cannot zoom..

Why that Im unable to move apps to sd card as it just show me the usb storage which is the phone internal storage. I got 16gb slotted in yesterday though...but the phone can detect it.

the default internal storage should be enough for you todo installation. no need to move to sd.

But it was unfair right....it should be some way todo so....still searching

this is because samsung introduce this internal usb storage and the external sd card... the old path to access to the external sd card has been replaced by the internal storage.. so those app when it move, it just moved to the internal storage instead of external sd card..

once i saw some one manage to modify some file inside the phone to change the path of both storage but it needs rooted...

No..didnt root my mobile.

I used wallpaper HD from the app market to get some descent wallpapers.

GL yes. no need to root but u need to dl a patch. EA i dont think so..
internal storage depends. by default u have 5GB. depends on games size

Added on November 26, 2011, 6:59 pmi think it's by default ext4... as for gps.. i haven't updated my phone to latest firmware.. but no problem locking my position with wifi on using google maps.. i can say very fast lock... not sure will it have gps problem after update.. still wait for the battery to flat and make it full charge before update..

sorry to interrupt u all... but.... i did have some problems about my Samsung Galaxy S Plus. Which is I buy at RM1288 4 weeks ago... i did try to log in to android post but i just cant to enter.. so i take this alternative to post a new topic.... ok... first... when i bought this smartphone, i didnt realize that this handphone have a 3 seconds delay for the ringtone reach at the top volume.. this ascending ringtone really annoyed me.... huh.... then... im trying to send a mms to other.. but it have some problems... i did contact celcom center (im using celcom..) to solve this problem but they keep saying that 'u have to on ur packet data and make sure that the internet is turned on...' i tried this once but it cant be send..... hmmmm.... then.... my biggest nightmare is, i have problems to send a 2 pages message to my friends...... it keeps saying that 'sending failed'..... hahhh........ i'm tired of this shit.... can anybody hear my problems and share with sumone else... pleasee... i'm new here... i registered to this forum juz because i want to clarify my thoughts about my smartphone.... pleasee... help me......

never use live wallpaper to save battery.

try go setting>wireless&network>mobile network>network mode> choose gsm only ,not auto.
if ur area line coverage not good keep switching from 3G to edge,it is hard to send mms n sms.

Hi All, I just got my S Plus yesterday and am trying to upgrade to the 2.3.5. Am facing a lot of problems, so I'm hoping someone can help me out:
1) Tried to hookup to Kies, but somehow it just doesn't connect! Anyone else having this problem, and is there any quick (and easy) way to get it working?
2) Am trying to get a software to backup all my contacts etc on the phone. Downloaded and Android Sync Manager on both the PC & mobile, but again, both of them can't see each other (despite using the same sharepoint) and hence can't sync! Any other suggestions for this?

finally i manage to update my sgs+ firmware to 2.3.5 after 3 times trial using kies..
actually thinking to use odin if my third try failed too..

just get this phone yesterday.. 1st time android user.. root rite away after reading V1 thread. very happy with this phone.. however still need to godek2 more about this phone

changed sp today.. from matt sp to diamond sp..

tried 1st time failed... then 2nd time i cancelled it at half way.. cause the download take too long to finish.. end up update through Odin.. i think it's much faster and better..

better in term of what? i change from clear to matte due to finger print issue.

I almost brick my phone man. tried twice on kies but suddenly brick phone. Some stupid symbol up. then use odin. still same symbol cannot disappear. my phone totally brick. then use kies again. i don't know why but this time took longer. i east till sleep. but once woke up, its done. lucky me. What's the kernel version after upgrading.???

first time got some error with usb connection..
2nd time also like you stuck at downloading mode.. 0% doesn't move any progress so cancelled..
luckily didn't brick the phone..
then i try this morning for the last time on kies.. everything goes smooth until updating complete..
forgot to record exact time the whole process of updating but i think about one hour..

my kernel version after update is 2.6.35.7-perf root@DELL89#1
