what is OTA?  biggrin.gif

Over The Air. I think he means if it's official update or something since I updated mine with Samsung Kies to 2.3.5. Well, gonna flash it when Cranium RC8 is being released though. My phone is lagging badly even when I'm not doing anything at all =/

bought the phone at nov 2011, the problem came since the first week of buying, but becoming worst as time goes by...sad to be this case

please advice regarding this issue.
*
Hmm...firmware problem maybe? Have you tried to update it or something? Just a suggestion though but I heard that updating your firmware/rom through Samsung Kies is risky hmm.gif ...so I think it's best to send it back for warranty. Just my opinion. smile.gif

Hi. New Android user here. just rooted my SGS+ but how do i make a nandroid backup? I use the rom manager thing and it can't detect the phone model.. sad.gif
*
Hi there, welcome to the world of android LOL! Here's the steps u need to do (found it via Google) : http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to...android-backup/

For SGS+ to reboot into the recovery mode, switch off your phone, press volume up + power button until the samsung logo appears (booting up) for like 1 sec and release them. When you actually see the "android out of box" logo, press the menu button (the one at the left of the home button) and wait for the list to come up. You can choose the option by pressing the volume button (+ = up and - = down). To confirm your selection, press the home button.

Good luck!

Thanks. biggrin.gif Which custom ROM should I use? What's the difference? lol. and do I keep the nandroid backup on my computer or what? o.o
*
You can keep it in your computer or keep it on your phone, up to you though smile.gif
"You should always keep one good Nandroid backup on your phone just in case" - quoted from http://www.goodandevo.net/2011/10/how-to-c...ed-htc-evo.html

For custom roms, you can try out the Cranium Rom, BroodROM or ThunderBolt! (made by our very own lowyat forum member, pikachu01). I'm about to try out the new Cranium RC8, will post up the steps and scores here when I'm done tongue.gif

Okay. One more thing. Will the phone and graphic performance tweaks be 'deleted' once I flash a custom rom?  rclxub.gif
*
Yep, you'll have to reinstall them but most of the tweaks are in the custom rom itself so don't worry about it tongue.gif

Well, apparently I have the same problem LOL! but solved it already biggrin.gif

Just go to recovery, factory reset and choose install zip from sd card again then it shall be fine smile.gif

kinda confused here rclxub.gif ...is it really cranium RC8 built from ICS Rom sources..or this is just a mock up/themes ICS ??? sweat.gif

since Samsung has abandon our model mad.gif ... so no point hoping n waiting for official ICS Rom from them vmad.gif

doh.gif Aiiiyah...need to learn to backup, flash feamod CWM...Flash Odin...kernal...etc etc... shocking.gif
"learn to know the dark side of the force" laugh.gif
*
It's just more like a theme instead of using ICS ROM sources. There's a dev working on a port for ICS to our device so we have to wait patiently for that smile.gif

Nice biggrin.gif Then your RC8 is ready to run then tongue.gif

How I flashed my phone to Cranium RC8:

*Please be advice that if you flash your phone, your warranty will be voided. -Refer to the first post of this topic for more info- and I am not responsible for any bricked devices, dead SD cards*

Make sure you remove your external SD card and sim card when you do this. Make sure your phone is fully charged as well to avoid problems. Lastly, backup all your backup data as well and make a nandroid backup.

Also make sure you fully read and understand the instructions stated below. The link to the guide on how to use Odin is provided below. Please ask if you have problems understanding any of the instructions stated.

1. Boot phone into download mode (Press volume down + power button + home button)
2. Plug in cable and connect to PC.
3. Flash phone using ZSKP6 ROM via Odin.
4. Done a factory reset through recovery mode.
5. Root your phone (I'll link the instructions at below) and install Busybox Installer from the market. Make sure you run the app and press "Install".

(To enter recovery mode, off your phone, press volume up + power button until the samsung logo came up for like 2-3 seconds and release it. After that when you see the "android out of box" picture, press the menu button (left of home button) to enter settings. Select factory reset using volume up (for up) and volume down (for down). After done factory reset get to step 3.)

6. Install FeaMod Recovery 1.2 via Odin.
7. Throw in RC8_CWM.zip into internal SD card.
8. Reboot phone into FeaMod Recovery 1.2 (same method as explained below step 3)
9. Choose install zip from sd card (press the menu button to confirm, not home button. if you press the home button and saw the logo only, don't panic, just press the home button again and the list will appear) -> Choose install zip from internal sd card -> Choose RC8_CWM.zip -> Choose install.
10. Leave it there until it's being fully install.

-If your phone stuck at the samsung galaxy s plus logo there (make sure it's really stuck before you do this though), don't panic, just take out your battery, put it in again, boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset. After it's done, repeat step 9 and you'll be fine-

11. Welcome to RC8!

You can get RC8 from : here
or here.

Get Odin, AviesVE.ops and FeaMod recovery 1.2 from : here

Get ZSKP6 from = here

I flashed already, and not do any backup at all.Is it okay? And is it possible for me to revert the previous rom which come like the first time i use this phone?
scared already about its warranty...aiyahhh~~
*
You can always find stock rom and flash back using odin. Just make sure you still had your phone details (*#1234#) or know which ROM you're using previously.

Stock ROMs can be found here.

is there a firmware 2.3.6 for S Plus? can update via kies? sorry noobby..
*
Yes there is. Apparently the latest update available to update via Samsung Kies is I9001DXKJ2 (2.3.5). If you want 2.3.6 you'll have to flash it via Odin.

will this model upgrade to ics?
*
Still not sure yet but Samsung don't have the intention of releasing the full version of ICS for this model. I read a article where they say we'll get something "near to ICS but not ICS", so I think maybe they'll be upgrading the UI only. You can sign the petition here and hope that they actually will release ICS for i9001.

For unofficial, it seems that a dev is already working a port ICS to i9001 but still in progress so we'll have to wait smile.gif

Cheers.

As mccy118 explanation, I dont really clear on this line
8. Reboot phone into FeaMod Recovery 1.2 (same method as explained below step 3)
Can u explain i further?Thanks. thumbup.gif
*
Well, since the original android recovery is being replaced by "FeaMod Recovery", therefore, use the same method to enter FeaMod (Press Volume Up + Power Button until samsung logo came up for like 2-3 sec and release) and there's a little changes for choosing the options, press the menu button for confirmation instead of the home button. If you accidentally pressed the home button and the screen only shows the FeaMod logo, just press the home button again to get the list show. That's how you do it tongue.gif

P/S : Sry for late replying, was doing house cleaning since 1 more week CNY already LOL! biggrin.gif

where did you read/hear this? is it true? why is it risky?

I'm not too sure also. I saw this from broodplank1337 (dev of BroodROM -XDA-Developers-) where he stated that flashing through Samsung Kies is risky and your phone might be bricked. hmm.gif but aint too sure about it myself since I updated using Kies once before. rclxub.gif

*Update*
"I used Samsung Kies software to update the firmware but it got stuck and I had to disconnect my phone from the PC.
So it got corrupted.. And the horrible "Black Screen of Death" showed." quoted from this site here. hmm.gif
Another alternative source here from XDA-Developers.

I'm using ZSKP6 rooted with FeaMod 1.2 and did a hard reset before I flashed to RC8 though. Here's the details of my phone below. (Under the spoiler tag again tongue.gif )
