I'm not too sure also. I saw this from broodplank1337 (dev of BroodROM -XDA-Developers-) where he stated that flashing through Samsung Kies is risky and your phone might be bricked. but aint too sure about it myself since I updated using Kies once before.

*Update*
"I used Samsung Kies software to update the firmware but it got stuck and I had to disconnect my phone from the PC.
So it got corrupted.. And the horrible "Black Screen of Death" showed." quoted from this site here.

I'm using ZSKP6 rooted with FeaMod 1.2 and did a hard reset before I flashed to RC8 though. Here's the details of my phone below. (Under the spoiler tag again )

Is the RC8 better than stock rom? By the way does it have chinese language ?

Too bad it doesn't have chinese but then you can always download the chinese plugin for locale and google pinyin IME for chinese input (have to switch around so a bit mafan ) but other than that it's quite smooth and better than stock rom (in my opinion though).

Alternatively you can always apply patches instead of using custom ROM but I never tried that before

Well yeah I guess. Which version of rom you're using? I suggest you use ZSKP6 or ZSKP7 though as what sakindia (the dev of cranium rom) suggested but apparently ian_9 did it without flashing to ZSKP6 or ZSKP7 first. Just make sure you backup your phone first before flashing in case anything happen Just go to recovery mode (Volume up + Power Button until samsung logo shows up for like 2-3 sec and release) and backup.

A question, can I just follow your guide 100% to get Cranium flashed? I mean do I need to root or prepare the phone with anything?

I am using the ori 2.3.5 stock rom and am very new to android.

Also, what will happen to my application data, whatsapp messages, and everything? What can I do to back them up? I heard that google sync takes care of taht but am not sure how.

Well, you can but just make sure how it actually works before you started to flash though. Just ask me if you didn't understand what I've wrote there.

I haven't tried before though since I didn't really care bout backing up my whatsapp and line history Titanium backup seems good though, can give it a try. You need to root your phone to use the app though. The guide on how to root can be found in my previous post.
