ANNOUNCEMENT : I have found a seller for Galaxy W screen protector. He sells galaxy w anti-fingerprint screen protector for only RM5. U guys can buy from uki91

Samsung GALAXY W comes with a single-core 1.4GHz processor, 3.7" 480x800 pixels LCD display, 5MP camera, 14.4Mbps HSDPA, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a 1500mAh battery. As usual we will have TouchWiz all over it with Samsung's multimedia and social Hubs as well as Kies Air for wireless syncing.

how do you save everything into sd card? Do I really have to download from browser and move it manually to sd card for files such as music, video and else?

Hi guys just want to ask I just bought Galaxy W at Sunway Pyramid Samsung concept store. However they did not stamp the warranty card for me. Is it okay for them not to stamp my warranty card? It is stated that my warranty will be valid for 18 months. I have heard from some people that if you register your phone online( via sms I'm not sure about this) you are eligible to get 2 years warranty, is this information correct? My concern is should I head back and ask them to stamp my warranty card? Thank you guys smile.gif

only SEP=Samsung Elite Partner will give 2 years warranty. the rest will have the standard 1 year warranty

there is 1 more called SDC. i dont know what it stands for...but they offers 18month warranty. 12 + 6 additional warranty. smile.gif

imho,
neo - good camera
galaxy w - buffy processor

neo is a 8 months old phone whereas galaxy is a fresh new 2 weeks old phone..

have been a SE fan all my life... 15yrs loyal to SE but i have reached my crossroad...
I have a Satio and my wife an Aino... was planning to get the Xperia Ray for her and Arc for me...

but... i guess i have to let SE go... not much confidence with them anymore and its quite sad... was expecting them to be stronger with androids...

as you said here... told my wife to look around for another phone she likes... and i went looking around also...

we came back to this conclusion also... she likes the SGW and me like SGS2.. just hope they will cover SGW for ICS4.... then it will be quite fair for my wife...

can anyone recommend a good/reliable/reasonable place to get these phones ?... today is holiday wanna go get them...

I plan to purchase micro SDHC card 2day. Any recommendations on brand/size/price? Do u need 2 off the phone to mount d card? I have no experience with SD card.

the size depends on ur need. 8gb class 4 cost around RM30-RM40 if im not mistaken. You do not need to off the phone as the micro sd is hot-swappable. meaning u can just insert and remove the micro sd without removing the battery.

8GB~RM60
16GB~RM110~150

No need class 10 for phone I would say. Class 4 is enough even for full HD video

Kingston/Sandisk/Transcend all ok.

MicroSD slot in Galaxy W is under the backcover but still hot swappable. Just slot in, no need power off.

actually, we can use class 10 but i doubt that it will increase the speed dramatically and most users are having issues with class 10. class 4 is sufficient smile.gif

You normally see a Number (2/4/6/10) circled, on the memory card. At least kingston one have such thing. Older memory card(Compact Flash) use x instead of class. Ex. 133x/200x...

just to check, when i plug in my headset, it does not show the headset icon which normally shown in the screen, like in my HTC Sensation also show the headset icon .. Did any1 encounter this ?

Btw, i m using 16gb class 10.. so far i have no issue on transfering data or watch movies..

for those who are planning to buy microsd cards, you might or might not want to get a big one because you don't get to use your microsd for game data such as gameloft's data unless you root. You might be wondering why. Its simple - the Galaxy W (along with other similar samsung phones) have 3 different storage locations:

- Internal Storage (phone storage)
- USB Storage (/mnt/sdcard)
- External SD Card storage (/mnt/sdcard/external_sd)

Most games including gameloft game's store their data to /mnt/sdcard which is where you are only limited to 2 GB of it. Say you install asphalt 6, then need for speed hot pursuit - that takes up about 1 gb already..you're left with another gig for other data.

Your external SD card will NOT be used for this purpose and can only be used for gameloft data if you root your phone and run a script to do some mapping or linking (if not mistaken).

Therefore, your external SD can mainly be used to store videos, photos, music and other data files that u wish..and also you could increase your internal storage space by moving from internal phone to SD card (external SD card). that's all you can use the external SD card for. So don't think you could install like 10 gameloft games when you get that 8 gb or 16gb microsd card - you CANT.

Please take note of this and TS - please put this up in the first page so pple are aware of this.

AFAIK, there is no 'register online for 1 year extra warranty' option for Samsung (there is for HTC). It's either 1 year or 2 years (SEP). The registration has to be done by the seller. If Samsung Service Center cannot find your product registration details, they will follow the date on your receipt.

Does it lag if I use a 32GB microSD class 4? How long does the battery last if I only use to make short calls and SMS? Planning to get one soon. My only doubt from getting any smartphones are the battery life per charge.

you can move the app to sd by going to manage applications, select the app then click on move to sd. the app shouldnt lag but when bootup, it will take a while longer to load up the app from the external microsd card and also when you are connected via usb storage mode you wont be able to access the app (because its on SD card and it is being used)

Hi TS, please include me in the user's list. I bought this phone for my wife in Melaka, white colour. Cost is $999 which is market price for place like Mahkota Parade. I'm not complaining though, its very pretty and suitable for ladies user. Never liked the Galaxy S or S II because its too bloody big. W fits just nice on the palm and its lightweight is probably due to the plastic materials for its body. Also since its not gorilla glass, its probably more durable, although I can't say its scratch proof.

Too bad there is no casing or screen protector for this model available yet. Hoping to get one very soon. Afraid of the white body to get smudges.

Galaxy W owner reporting in.

Unlike some of you lucky ones, I unfortunately got it at RM999 with 1 year warranty ... and no SD card or car charger or buetooth headset :-(

Great phone nonetheless considering its under 1K.

Still charging and replying thru the W. Best buy i ever made.

Gps is quick to lock into position. camera is quite ok. never had any problem like dust in the lens coz i already tested it thoroughly.

So don't think you could install like 10 gameloft games when you get that 8 gb or 16gb microsd card - you CANT.

Please take note of this and TS - please put this up in the first page so pple are aware of this.

most if not all games that downloads to "sd card" folder. this means you're pretty much limited at the moment to what you can have but 2gb is pretty good to have about 2-3 decent games already (gameloft ones).

but... correct me if i'm wrong, it's not EXACTLY 2GB right.. it's like.. 1.8GB or less right? and if we install apps and gameloft stuff inside it.. and leave the free space left to about... 300MB? Won't it lag the phone?

got good demand, not likely to drop too much or drop at all. samsung is trying to repeat their success with the previous samsung wave which sold millions of dollars and this handset is back for buck, so it'll most likely sell extremely well

RRP is 999, you should be able to get it anywhere between 790 -> 999. Check garage sales section to find out the best bargain.

just get the galaxy w for around 1 hours,, test many thing,,, camera, skype video, 3g video,,games,,,, all working well,,, just not so satisfy about the camera performance,, why look so blur?? 1 more thing where to check the battery level?

now who told you that? lol...ICS does need a decent hardware but it doesnt need dual core as far as i am aware of to run it...

accidentally dropped the phone just now. the phone was on the lap and forgot about it, straightaway open the car door and get out and prakk. it was so fast, not sure lcd first or rear first landed. luckily theres no scratch or any damage..

Thank god got that. That's why I say W is more durable without gorilla glass. People may argue this.

believe it or not, I just switched from galaxy s2 to this phone. 2 weeks ago I bought a white galaxy s2 but to my disappointment it has poor reception and hangs frequently needing me to long press the power button to restart it. in the 2 weeks of use it hanged more than 10 times. the reception was awful. normally in places where my old desire hd would get full bars the galaxy s2 only manages 2 bars. sold it at minimal loss and got this phone. very happy with the performance considering the price. only grouse is it does not have auto ambient light.

Just went to BEST in Tropicana City Mall , no more rm799 . It is rm999 with 1 year warranty only . I think they dint make survey b4 put the price , so we know the cost price might be less than rm799 . Please inform others dont go there , wasting time .

not sure if can play rmvb, but u can try mx video player and if i recall correctly there's an official realplayer too..you might try those two.

I had tried this phone in a shop in my town last night, it is pretty good biggrin.gif
they cost me RM999 for the member(+3 month warranty but no micro SD include). I think it cost so expensive maybe because of the town problem, i'm not living in the big city like kl,i'm just live in a small town in Pahang, Temerloh.
Btw, here is a SenHeng. What is the difference between SenHeng and SenQ? From the newspaper, we know that SenQ give out 3years warranty for member. But, is SenHeng give out 3warranty also??

Does SGW have both continuous AF and touch focus in photo mode? hmm.gif

User Report in..very nice phone.. so far i played racing moto, gt hd and contrct killer very smooth..camera also not bad, got touch to focus, but little shaky will make the photo blur..

Symbian Foursquare client is available but in troublesome QT.
For a good Facebook client, no feature complete from Facebook.

Samsung Galaxy W report in! Bought on 5/11 at my working place with cost price since i working in Samsung Digital Centre!HAHA,what i want to say is this phone RAWKS for this price!But sayang only the screen too small since am the ex user for Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung galaxy Tab 7".But overall is fine and it's butter smooths esp when i use launcher pro as my launcher!My friends that using iphone was jealous with my W!For accesories,i bought a normal soft leather pouch and using Samsung Galaxy ACE screen protector (U need to cut abit on the bottom and it 98% fits!).Anyway this is my 3rd Android smartphone and hope still can learn more since am the Samsung salesman for Android smartphone in my shop!And i just wan to ask is any Gameloft game that suits this baby?

It's smooth and no lag.Fyi,the Tube X apps only can get in their website and not in market.Just go to their website at Tubex.me then download the apps.Currently there is 4 HD videos in my W.All HD since i use my W to attract customers.Hehe~Camera memang superb but haven't try in any dark place yet.The problem is the sound very small when we talking on the phone.Any solution to make it louder?I adjust all the sound to maximum d..like just now my brother call me and the sound not so loud.. sad.gif

ok,, lets do a small review about battery. i put to gsm mode. last night battery charge till 97% then i go out at 10pm... now is 7:08am .. battery show 76%. mean 9 hours standby mode ( not using any application at all) will take around 20% of battery.
if compare to my p565 , galaxy w seems like suck battery stronger then my old winmo 6.5 pda 9 hour only use 5% just for standby mode.
today i wont use the W till 5pm. wanna see how much battery usage around 20 hours just at standby mode.

Added on November 8, 2011, 7:22 amanyway how to check battery level using software come with the phone? i now using the downloaded torch light software to check only.

the settings > about > status section got show the battery level without any 3rd party software. your battery life is bad probably because you either:

- left GPS turned on, it should be off if not using
- left wifi / bluetooth on, it should be off again if not using
- have something running in background eating up your battery

You can try using juicedefender to monitor if not mistaken. My wife's galaxy W battery life is very good. last night left it at 67% this morning after 7 hours wake up is 66%. Lost 1% only is fantastic.

skype is fine even minimized, no need kill it. weather program? nope shouldn't be because i dont think it checks every x minute, should be every x hours for refresh so shouldnt affect battery life. get juicedefender to check.

should be no problem because if not mistaken the white color one is just the back cover. guess u could just replace the cover if its dirty/discoloured beyond cleaning.

So don't think you could install like 10 gameloft games when you get that 8 gb or 16gb microsd card - you CANT.

yes should be fine. when you bootup the app will take a while to appear in your applications drawer but it will eventually load up in time, not sure how long, that depends on how many apps you put into SD. The less you put the faster it loads up.

havent fully test but so far its ok. have to let her try for a week to know. for papago..not too sure actually, if cannot move to SD then cannot la, if can then go ahead, app should work just fine.

Mine can charge from 10% to 100% within estimated 2-2.5 hours.
never stuck at 99%. Perhaps you can try to kill all the process and see if that fix the problem.

Normally I charged my set until it says 100% for HTC Sensation, as for SGW, it says charged then I will drag down the Notification Bar, it prompt it to unplug the charger as it has fully charged..

According to few shop salesmans in Lowyat Plaza, it should be available in one or two week durations. Until then I have to use Naked SGW...what a pity

Well, the shop that I brought, the salesman put for HTC desire S which not fully cover my the screen but atleast from Samsung Word right up to Homescreen Button.. My only worry is whether those area without SP can get scratches easily... cry.gif

app2sd will move the application to /mnt/sdcard which it still a internal memory of this phone . The real path of the external SD card is /mnt/sdcard/external_sd .

The only way to install to external_sd is root and with some script/application like modinstalllocation

Please correct me if i am wrong .

This confusion is due to - On many of the Android phones, the /sdcard directory is actually the external SD card. But now there are new phones that are using that directly for internal memory.

Of course la i mean earpiece, bro. Who want to talk via loudspeaker (Crazy).. Even just now i was speaking to my boss in a restaurant during my break..Loud and clear.. at volume 60% only

The earpiece might be positioned too low or too high. It ever happen to my Nokia 5800XM thus the low volume.

Guys,for the battery issue,i'm not sure cause i always put my brightness to maximum just because wan to show off to ppl that Samsung have a nice display even it's not Super AMOLED.So i don't care about the battery issue but for me it drain very fast..i don't know maybe i'm a heavy user..from my Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7' it's all same...drain very fast.Alright,for accesories,at the moment i use normal leather pouch and using Galaxy ACE screen protector (U just need to cut abit on the bottom home button there and it fits well. smile.gif )Camera ok,speaker during call sux,i use Pro Launcher and make it into 3D view and its 100% smooth like Planta butter.Haha~And for the HD video that i dl using Tubex apps,it's 100% smooth like Planta butter too!Just wondering how to fix the speaker problem.Can't wait for the accesories come out in this few weeks.Overall still okay!Anyone who in JB wana buy this baby we're in KSL City Samsung Digital Centre got sell this for RM999 and comes with 18 months warranty.We got the demo set here with internet connected.

yaloh,, as previous thread i mention,, last night charge till 97% then go out at 10pm,, then just standby till morning 8am battery left 73%. now is 6:30pm,, just now i surf net a bit by wifi and took few photo,, now battery left 32%. mine is consider light use only.

I not using data plan, any idea how to completely stop the 3g/gprs service from Digi?? Cause I had disabled 'use packet data' once i get the phone and didnt have any overdue amount, but few days ago it suddenly barred my line and say that i have rm200 unbilled. WTF..

I not sure yet issit the rm200 from Internet, monthly bill will out few day after then i will know where is the money use to..
Have to prepare for war with digi centre..

for root, factory reset will not unroot ur phone
i had tried this before
and same thing to flash ROM etc..

I called my friend just a while ago. The speaker for the earpiece is clear eventhough set to around 40%. Its acceptable in my case.

depends on how hard you bricked your phone. if it's soft brick just use odin and flash back to stock rom. if you can't enter download mode then use usb jig (only for samsung). if you still can't enter download mode after using usb jig, samsung center is your only hope.

Managed to test out the Samsung Galaxy W at the Samsung Store in Gardens Mall today.

Build quality is good, feels solid in the hands. Nice texture of the back of the phone for grip. The overall look of the phone is nice, simple and elegant.

I'm also impressed with the display quality of the S-LCD. Colours look vibrant and sharp. Not as saturated and deep as the SAMOLED+ of the SGS II, but natural enough for my liking.

Responsiveness of the touch screen is also pretty good. Swiping across the homescreens with multiple widgets is a breeze. The 3D Swipe thing works decently as well. Not much noticeable lag in the General UI.. so far so good! thumbup.gif

Web browsing is the excellent part of this phone(for me). Scrolling and pinch to zoom on web pages like engadget or gsmarena or forum.lowyat.net was silky smooth. I'm amazed how the processor manages to excel in this department very very well. I'd dare to say that the web browsing experience is close to that of the Samsung Galaxy S II.

BTW guys if you are worried about warranty don't go root la...there is a lot of things you can do WITHOUT rooting...rooting is not for n00bs and absolutely not for those who easily get heart attack (not for the faint of heart) because rooting and messing around with the file system can seriously cause problems if you dont know what you're doing. Also as mentioned before there's a counter to track the number of times you root and unroot, if samsung wants to deny your warranty because of this they have the right to do so.

If you can't afford to buy another phone because you rooted the phone and bricked it - don't. Its as simple as that. You can still use outside APKs without rooting unlike iPhone. I won't say the word. You know what i mean by saying this.

Did u guys notice that lately it's hard for us to install those apps and update some apps in market using wifi?It just loading there without doing anything.And i just realize we need to use 3G line to update and dl some apps that cant we use Wifi like before..anyone can explain that?Just wondering. :/

How come 10.1 and 7 can't play 1080p? Old tab 7 already supports 1080p playback. Perhaps it has a better GPU than that in W, just slower proc. I rmb I asked someone and he said his Old tab can play 1080p youtube video.

Erm... For me. 720p because I can straight load to the phone from my PC. No need down conversion is the main point.

not sure how to read this chart, i suppose phone signal is eating up a lot of your battery? are you on 3G? you should try to switch to 2G mode to see if it helps because 3G eats up a lot of battery.

Regarding the call quality, in my opinion the speaker is ok. However, when I test called a friend, he said that when compared to my previous phone (SE K770i), my voice sounds more distant and soft, but mentioned it is still fine for a normal telephone conversation.

And may I ask any Android users here the method to turn off 3g? I am really inexperienced in Android ^^

Ya, i also faced same problem after updating Kies software, b4 after it was ok. but now all haywire.. Uninstalling the kies program now...

you mean turn off 3G as in let it run on Edge or totally turn off data ? if let it run on Edge then its as per what game4life mentioned, if you mean turn off Data, then its mobile network settings > untick "Use packet data"

Guys, when you get the phone the first time, do you guys charge fully for 8-hours straight? What is the purpose of doing that? I sense many seller asking user to charge 8hrs for the first time. Not sure why. hmm.gif

Yes, but the SP doesn't cover the front face completely. They should put on Galaxy Ace SP.
Will buy the original SP once it's out. Hopefully this week can find.

Just bought this phone yesterday for RM866 at SS15..so far so good since previously i am using HTC Wildfire 1st Gen..so obviously i can see the diff on the performance..

The main concern for me now is i can't install Papago X5 into my phone..i tried many times but it will hang when the transfer reach VoiceEn folder..I googled and found that not all 2.3.5 ver can use Papago..

Anybody here can share their experience on this? Thanks in advance.

this is the 2nd time i charge battery for galaxy w. from 8am till now almost 3pm the battery still remain 99%. wow superb rclxms.gif . the 1st time i charge,,, it drop 23% within 9 hours rclxub.gif , i think new battery is like that.

last night test rmvb movie 840x460. have a bit lag. still acceptable. may be should try others rmvb player, bcos i use the media player come with the phone.

I am not that good in hacking Papago..hihi..yes it can't be install at external sd and internal storage..from my experience, both methods will hang during transferring the 'VoiceEn' folder..

I called this company, http://support.m3gps.com and they told me Papago not supported for 2.3 OS..only up to 2.2 OS..so now need to use my wife Wildfire to navigate..tongue.gif

Guys,for the battery issue,i'm not sure cause i always put my brightness to maximum just because wan to show off to ppl that Samsung have a nice display even it's not Super AMOLED.So i don't care about the battery issue but for me it drain very fast..i don't know maybe i'm a heavy user..from my Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7' it's all same...drain very fast.Alright,for accesories,at the moment i use normal leather pouch and using Galaxy ACE screen protector (U just need to cut abit on the bottom home button there and it fits well. smile.gif )Camera ok,speaker during call sux,i use Pro Launcher and make it into 3D view and its 100% smooth like Planta butter.Haha~And for the HD video that i dl using Tubex apps,it's 100% smooth like Planta butter too!Just wondering how to fix the speaker problem.Can't wait for the accesories come out in this few weeks.Overall still okay!Anyone who in JB wana buy this baby we're in KSL City Samsung Digital Centre got sell this for RM999 and comes with 18 months warranty.We got the demo set here with internet connected.

Hi, I'm new in lowyat and also android phone. Thinking to get Galaxy W as my 1st android phone. but I saw problem of "internal SD" which cause apps and gameloft games cannot move to external SD card?
I love playing games especially gameloft. any idea of moving apps/games to external sd without rooting?

nope..it works..my bro's SGW had papago installed by the shopkeeper...and I don't think my bro's SGW rooted by the shopkeepers

Officially no but unofficially ok. got it running on 2.3.3,2.3.4 and 2.3.5 on galaxy s II, htc sensation and current galaxy note which is on 2.3.5
No need root to run app

then get phone at rm949 (discount rm50) and add on 149 for class 4 16GB sd card and bluetooth earphone. ><

even if u unroot i believe samsung got a well to tell which is thru the some sort of counter..so if they want to void your warranty i think they can.

i think got way to reset the counter but not sure..if scared dun go root lar..aiyo...if u dun plan to :

1) backup with titanium backup or use rooted apps
2) use custom rom
3) play with scripts, etc

Then no need root. susah only tongue.gif

after full charge from 8am till 5:45pm,, battery left 96% . most the time stanbdy + 5 sms + wifi skype few minute . 10hours only use 4% battery 0.0 very surprise.

I bought from Allied Marketing (Nokia Store) for RM940+4GB Sandisk class 4 in cash. If u dun wan the micro sd, can get for RM900. Credit card purchase top up xtra RM 20.

hey guys, any1 facing issue with the sms? my gf bought this from SEP at lowyat, used just few days, having issue to send sms, have to send 2nd time to succeed. i already tried to restore factory settings, recovery option restore factory settings and even the samsung special method of recovery also fail.

samsung call center super sux....quite rude and unprofessional and saying that this issue is common for this model and samsung galaxy S2.
so wondering any1 facing the same issue?

I think SMS could be an isolated problem. Mine works fine. Only call quality below average otherwise quite satisfactory.

To me my main problem is about installing games on external SD card, it's sad to see the 16GB external SD card being left emptied because i purposely bought to install many games in it. Since the internal SD card which is the USB storage is only 1.9+GB and internal memory 1GB it's totally not enough to install many games. If anyone know how to overcome this main issue please put on the front page. Preferably by using methods that doesn't need to root our phone.

It's thicker than W. 13mm... Both Neo and Neo V same dimension. Neo V is newer but 5MP camera only I got no clue why SE comes out with a downgraded version...

guys is it true the 2 year warranty has been canceled? i mean, everyone will get 1 year warranty doesn't matter from SME or SEP?

I'm asking you guys lorh, lol. but i've experienced it myself, i bought for the 2 years warranty, but when i check for sms warranty confirmation just now, it only stated 1 year. Have u guys got yours?

you are gravely mistaken my friend. processor is not the only thing. the major thing is the storage on the neo v is only 320 MB compared to galaxy w's 2 GB usb storage. of course you can extend with microsd but out of the box galaxy w can stand on its own at least without a card. that alone is a big enough selling point for anyone.

yes..

161 out of 512 mb is reserved for OS.. hence the 351 available memory..

total internal storage is 4GB that's correct.. 2GB usb storage, 1GB OS, and 1GB for installing apps..

Well storage isn't really an issue to me,if i'm not mistaken the Neo V comes with a 2GB Micro SD card out of the box. smile.gif

FYI I paid 45 for 8GB MicroSD Class 4 One Year Back. It's now RM35. 16GB RM70
