Eh no wor, I'm actually going through my PR application on an agency, and this VETASSESS is not listed by my agent and what's left now for me is passing the IELTS with enough results.

Honestly speaking, I've went for IELTS once already =.=" Speaking I got 6.0 only alamak, all others I got past 7.0. The PR requirement is for all 4 Bands to be 7.0 or above.

FYI I'm applying for Subclass 189, my profession is engineering. So most probably I aim to be at WA once I get my PR in near future.

I used to study in WA a few years back, and even travelled to Perth just last March, so I have a clear idea around the places, this and that and whatnot, and also the lifestyles over there. (Yea, no nightlife stay at home -____-)

All the best in your application. Seems like a lot of west malaysians flocking Perth now biggrin.gif Should have a lowyat catch up when the number grows biggrin.gif

Well, you should be able to survive with some part time casual jobs.

The min. wage per hour here is AUD 16.80

Assume you work 8 hours x 6 days , thats AUD 3.2k a month

And renting a room ( by sharing a house ) is around 700-800 per month depending on location.

Should be good for a single person without family commitment like you.

All the best !!

16.80 min wage is a bit low. Not difficult to get 20 p/h.

20x38 = 760 (gross), 661 (after tax)

Er...800 a month is a bit low for room rental. Maybe for kampung, but not for capital cities.

My calculation for simple living for a single person renting a room.
P/week:

Rent - 200 (inc. wifi, utilities)
Makan (groceries) - 50
Transport - 30
Mobile phone - 20
All up = 300 p/week

We got heaps of East Malaysian from Sabah & Sarawak. I'm one.
You won't feel alone, it's all well established here.

You're single with less commitment is the easiest to move around. Looking for a job is not the biggest challenge.
The biggest is you yourself how to settle your own mind. Some ppl can't stand the environment and life changes.

For 'some' people try to scares people off to go Australia is becoz they never worked here before. Never try and leave the comfort zone.
Forever they won't know. It's not asking you to sell your butt here. Some ppl will give you negative info and comment. At the end, who's walking till the end? It's you yourself.

Even before i apply PR, so many negative voices saying there's racist, 2nd class, working like bangla. After i get my PR, they'll say you'll be dead in Australia. No job no income. High tax!
Now i worked with my job profession and lived here 2 years. Bought house and cars. Settle down. The people who giving bad comments in the past suddenly say wanna visit me and have holiday in my place.
Soon you'll see these people all of sudden approach you and asking you for favour but i still help them.

Which choice you gonna have between Malaysia & Australia? It's all about where you put your confidence to current government.

You applying PR is based on skills needed. Start gaining local experience from scratch and within 2 years you'll see the difference.
My question is which suit you best? If you think Australia is good for ya, then go ahead. If not, just stay where you are. That's simple.

There's no green or heaven in this world but if you compare current political turmoil back home, which would you choose? Australia with massive and vast land of opportunites? Singapore with high currency but crowded living in pigeon hole? Malaysia living with stress, economy distress and political turmoil? Choice is in your hand cool2.gif

In this forum, there's someone in here like to see how we suffer in Australia even though this thread is all about working in Australia. Someone talking trash wanna demotivate you guys of coming here. They wanna see the decision we made is a mistake and shouldn't come here. I won't name them but you'll notice.

Again, this thread is all about the discussion on working life, experience and migration issue in Australia. So, anyone who's talking trash on something else just F*CK OFF.

hmmm... like you said this thread is about living and working in australia and not "how good australia is" so i don't know what you're ranting about. people don't deserve to hear both sides of the story before deciding themselves? or do you think they are they are too dumb to make their own judgement? hahaha.

Like in court, the judge and jury needs to hear both side of the story to reach a conclusion, no?

Hearing from both sides is good, everyone should make an informed decision for yourselves, family and children.

You cant have it all, gain some and loose some, end of the day what make you happy and content

looking at all the risk make an informed decision and move forward,

My personal opinion, although how difficult is making the move to move was the best thing i have done for my kid. Shes happy in school, my wife is happy at work...the fact my daughter walks to school and has a blast going out of the house in the evenings to the park is already priceless for me. if i have to earn minimum wage to sustain this happiness im all for it.

Any you guys going to melbourne and want to meet up for coffee from 15th sept onwards let me know. more then willing to help any newcomer settle in and find their footing. We are fortunate to have relatives help us on our journey to finally settling in , and willing to help if anyone needs it,

Bro... if you don't have PR, the new tax rate for foreign worker is about 32.5/1 dollar. Doesn't matter what type of visa you are holding (as long as legal).
https://www.ato.gov.au/Rates/Individual-inc...r-years/?page=2

redo your calculation.

if you plan to earn pocket money, cash...be prepare to get less than the minimum wage (depends on what you are doing). For example, there are heaps of Chinese willing to work for 8-10 dollar/hr in Chinese Restaurant.

Good luck.

I think that calculation is based on general info on PR status. If work under 457, they'll pay you minimum. That's why many of them fulfill 2 years are eligible for PR application.

Don't work in chinese restaurant. Most of them underpay. Those people are illegal immigrants and willing to even @ $7 doh.gif
Some of these ppl can't speak a basic english. That's the reason behind they like to work in the kitchen, less interaction. I met quite a number of chinese (some illegal) work in construction site. Mainly tilers, gyprockers & chippy.
Spoke to them and trust me, you can't believe how they came here from far village and where the money come from.

The whole village loan them money which is not much to the middle man. Then they'll get a job including the airticket. Pay is @ $7-10/hr. So their family become guarantor. They worked and live here for 2-3 years then only go back for short while. They worked 10hrs/day. Of course, these ppl don't pay tax.

That's quite sad but then when DIBP catches them it is worse- they get deported and blacklisted. It's also an ongoing thing with immigration doing checks.

I've heard of silly Malaysians who attempt to go to Aus as "fruit pickers" and then overstay. With tourist visas. Please la don't make it tough for other Malaysians in the future, get a working holiday visa and then go, instead of doing things illegally and then ending up on Border Security.

I met some malaysians who worked illegally here. It happens to hv bachelor degree working in a farm. They're lucky they get paid at $15/hour.
My advice to them to go thru the proper route instead of jumping queue like we did. If there's too many illegal malaysian worked here, well, we'll get painted with parachuteers doh.gif
