I'm also in the midst of applying for Aussie PR (Subclass 189), left passing IELTS test remaining before submitting EOI.

Looking at what's happening in our country and the government really encourages me to migrate for good. But then again, job market in Aussie is not in its best state, as well as its currency and economy. I heard iron ore price dropped gau gau, not to mention global oil price, which has its effect on Aussie as well.

Sometimes I'm hesitating. I'm not worried about getting the visa, I'm more worried about getting a job and a stable income to survive there.

Oz now in deep shit as well. If you're looking for a high pose job, maybe it's not a place for you. You'll live miserable later. Migrating is very personal, depends on what you're after.
Life here is bored but you'll get use to it.
Oz rely agricultural to sustain most of the losses.
Well, take whatever job 1st to pay bills. What's your profession anyway?
*
Mech Engineer. I used to study in Oz actually, so I sort of know the lifestyles over there. It is the current state of our beloved country, and all the negativities and our hopeless ministers that really drives me into migrating.
Considering that I'm still under 30 and single, I have a degree and know what it is like living in Oz, I'm seeing this as a way out.
Sounds selfish to some I understand, but at end of the day, it's every man for himself.

LOL, million. I wish could have that in my current age.
Haha, plan always sound great. I can't predict the future but yea it's my plan to marry with my current girlfriend. I am not sure about playboy but getting a girlfriend is usually for the final goal of marry isn't it? I don't think spending time and money on someone you don't wish to marry with her is good idea unless "special" interest or reason LOL.

Even they have married still need to wait for 2 years in order to get the visa?  Oh my god, sound really bad.
*
That's what you think on your side, but is that what she thinks?

Not trying to judge, or to flame you or what or badmouth your girlfriend here, but please don't forget about this point.

Coz you're the bf, you know what she thinks best.

The conversation above really motivates me to further my application.

Still have IELTS to go before can submit my EOI. =)

To be honest, for the past few months, I kept hearing about slowing down of Aussie markets especially in the mining field, coupled with dropped oil price really demoralises me in my application abit.

Thanks!

well you don't have to move right away. You have 5 years to make the move. Out of 5, you must spend 2 years onshore to fulfil the residency requirement.

IELTS is not hard to be honest. I think you'll do fine, looking at your post smile.gif

Have you had your assessment (VETASSESS/ any relevant one to your skilled occupation) done yet?
*
Eh no wor, I'm actually going through my PR application on an agency, and this VETASSESS is not listed by my agent and what's left now for me is passing the IELTS with enough results.

Honestly speaking, I've went for IELTS once already =.=" Speaking I got 6.0 only alamak, all others I got past 7.0. The PR requirement is for all 4 Bands to be 7.0 or above.

FYI I'm applying for Subclass 189, my profession is engineering. So most probably I aim to be at WA once I get my PR in near future.

I used to study in WA a few years back, and even travelled to Perth just last March, so I have a clear idea around the places, this and that and whatnot, and also the lifestyles over there. (Yea, no nightlife stay at home -____-)

Oh yea that means engineers come under a different assessment body- I can't remember but the sifus above should be able to tag the correct one.

That IELTS you took was for academic? This will be General. Easy lah, don't worry. Not hard to score 8. Unless you're lazy like me during the reading (tired already 'cause it was a WHOLE day affair) and just schemed through without reading. Damn tedious la the paragraphs haha.

Speaking just don't fumble la. Go practice vocabulary and use big words correctly. smile.gif
*
I took the General Training ones. Yeah it was tiring, takes whole day.

Booked for upcoming test at 24 Oct, and the fee raised to RM750 now dei cry.gif cry.gif

Nightlife or IELTS are the least of your concerns. Getting a job is. Engineering esp if you are in oil and gas is notoriously hard to get in this kind of environment
*
So damn true, I got this concern as well, with the shitty commodity prices nowadays.

Retrenchments are also happening here and there in WA these days. Well, the life of O&G in KL isn't any better. Slump in oil price affects globally.

But still I don't wanna give too much hoohaa about it, just take some risk and hope that by a few years ahead things will get better. Nobody knows.

The question is how deep are your pockets?
Are you able to go on without a job for 6 months? 1 year? 2 years?
Even part time/lower end jobs are hard to come by as many Australians and PR are retrenched and turn to these jobs to tide them through
*
Wow really that bad over there now?
I believe I could tahan a couple months without income, though best is to find a job soonest lah.
I'm single now, no family to feed and have no commitments in Malaysia.

I'm actually East Malaysian, though working in KL right now hehehe
I think that's a good idea for us 游子们.

Well, you should be able to survive with some part time casual jobs.

The min. wage per hour here is AUD 16.80

Assume you work 8 hours x 6 days , thats AUD 3.2k a month

And renting a room ( by sharing a house ) is around 700-800 per month depending on location.

Should be good for a single person without family commitment like you.

All the best !!

Thanks yo

We got heaps of East Malaysian from Sabah & Sarawak. I'm one.
You won't feel alone, it's all well established here.

You're single with less commitment is the easiest to move around. Looking for a job is not the biggest challenge.
The biggest is you yourself how to settle your own mind. Some ppl can't stand the environment and life changes.

For 'some' people try to scares people off to go Australia is becoz they never worked here before. Never try and leave the comfort zone.
Forever they won't know. It's not asking you to sell your butt here. Some ppl will give you negative info and comment. At the end, who's walking till the end? It's you yourself.

Even before i apply PR, so many negative voices saying there's racist, 2nd class, working like bangla. After i get my PR, they'll say you'll be dead in Australia. No job no income. High tax!
Now i worked with my job profession and lived here 2 years. Bought house and cars. Settle down. The people who giving bad comments in the past suddenly say wanna visit me and have holiday in my place.
Soon you'll see these people all of sudden approach you and asking you for favour but i still help them.

Which choice you gonna have between Malaysia & Australia? It's all about where you put your confidence to current government.

You applying PR is based on skills needed. Start gaining local experience from scratch and within 2 years you'll see the difference.
My question is which suit you best? If you think Australia is good for ya, then go ahead. If not, just stay where you are. That's simple.

There's no green or heaven in this world but if you compare current political turmoil back home, which would you choose? Australia with massive and vast land of opportunites? Singapore with high currency but crowded living in pigeon hole? Malaysia living with stress, economy distress and political turmoil? Choice is in your hand cool2.gif
*
Thanks for the insight! Mind if I ask, you from Sabah/Swak?

Swakian here.

Well, talking from my exp. I engaged an agent starting with 'R' which i picked their mistake numerous time and slam them few times!

Spoilering your lengthy reply as to shorten the scroll length tongue.gif
My current agency starts with R too, office very near to convention centre.
For 5mths now I'm engaged to them, already 1 mistake and I've slamed the agent once. Though my error is not as significant.
My employer reference letter, according to Engineers Australia, requires 5 duty points. I wasn't aware about it, nor did the agent.
So having only 4 duty points in the letter, I submitted and have my company superior signed my letters.
Now I gotta re-do the whole thing.

That's why i said, sometimes you need to do your homework and read the official website.
Sometimes i realised i'm more informative than agent themselves.

Anyway, since already come to this stage. Just hang in there, get the requirement done and submit.  doh.gif

True.

IELTS is a scam

I heard about this, from a bunch of friends who all did not get enough for their first test, and passed on the second attempt. rclxub.gif
All of them are Aussie PR now. They said historically, hardly anybody gets enough for their first test and gotta reattempt, and this is a way B****sh C*****l milks money out of people.
Of course, this kind of thing, nobody knows if it's true or not, nobody will deny, nobody will admit. Just saying.

Ah I know which agent you speak of, I've heard negative things about them.

Wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, even if someone paid me 😅

The one I'm using was recommended by a friend who got his and his wife's 189 in two months.
I just got asked to pay 42 AUD for the Aussie Federal police clearance, since I've spent time there previously under a student visa.

But so far so good, I don't need to chase for anything. They've been prompt and delivered things even before the given timeline. Very helpful, very kind and I'm very pleased with their professionalism.

Mind if I know which agency is that? You may PM me if you can't mention it here wink.gif

No need 8 lah, 7 will do in all areas.

It's just for some of us English is our first language.

I speak English at home, and not Manglish, mostly. Sure kena if homework is done haphazardly. My dad was very strict with vocabulary & grammar so in primary school, I got the English pirze 3 years running.  tongue.gif

Listening- it's easy to get 8 and above. Just got to listen HARD. Speaking also okay- don't hesitate when you speak, make sure your grammar is on point.
*
Yeah I'm pretty certain 7.0 is enough. No need 8, not unless you need more points?

I got 7.5 in listening doing it half asleep. It was 9am in Saturday morning and the aircon in Park Royal's hall very cold lah. So, listening ones basically don't have to worry so much.

Speaking ones.. I need more work on it. I'm chinese educated, what to do sweat.gif
