I think recently, there is an article in the newspaper which discourages companies to hire foreigners ahead of locals. SG gov apparently is trying to implement laws to curb this kind of practice. So unless the job has no local people applied for (probably too lowly paid, sux job or job nobody else want) then only they will consider foreigners.
*
The singapore government knew this problem way back when and they have always tried to encourage companies here to put singaporeans first ahead of foreigners.

But its hard for the chinaman to give up his opium would be a good example of employers choosing to hire foreigners over locals. Another reason why they prefer foreigners over locals in the work permit category is the penalties which the work permit holders face if they quit their jobs prematurely which ensure that the singaporean employers dont have errant foreign employee's. Plus the fact that most have to stay in their jobs anyway to pay their agent fee is just icing on the cake for the singaporean employer to hang onto his/her "opium".

i dun mind to facts and evidence requirement since it will not happen, otherwise it wont be in forum. but further elaboration on the accusation would be great. It for the good of other potential "joiners" to consider for themselves.

That's why now the SG gov are trying to come up with laws to penalise companies doing that. Maybe a hefty fine or maybe more fees to be paid for foreigners. See if they can do it samore.....

sometimes, some people never read carefully & understand carefully.
Indeed. The regulation of drivers (ie. driver's licence) and the regulation of cars allowed to be driven or remain in Singapore (ie. registration or country of origin) are 2 entirely separate issues.

Highly unlikely, the "opium" has become a way of life for the "chinaman". Especially in the mechanical engineering sector in tuas or the shipyards.

Its like trying to get a hardcore smoker to go cold turkey, no way in hell.

If he's office based, yes. Goes out onsite, no. Goes offshore, definitely not.

But whichever it is, 14K at 30... that would put him at top 5% of tax paying salary earners in Singapore.
