Don't become a PR if the company pays you in cash whatever CPF they would have paid if you were a PR.

Become a PR if the company doesn't contribute CPF unless you're PR.

Extra money is extra money even if you can't touch it until you're 55. Actually getting it in cash doesn't mean that you will (best case) invest it at a better return than CPF can, and (worst case) you could simply blow the money on something useless.

2.5% is peanuts, wei....... i think SG inflation is almost double that.....our M'sian EPF giving 5% also people complain liao....howcome SG gov so kiamsiap? CPF loss money in investments?
You need to factor in the relative risk, local inflation & interest rate and also the relative long term exchange rate differentials (vs each other and vs a benchmark currency that represents like the USD).

If you've money. Put in foreign FD in SG Banks. Rate much higher than local SGD currency. Especially AUD the highest now. smile.gif
Only if you're confident that the AUD will not depreciate against the SGD over the term of the deposit.

month end soon aldi, want to change money and put ? conclusion is ?
put singapore or malaysia hehe ?  hmm.gif
Put your money into the 2 currencies according to how you will split your spending into RM and SGD.

Or you can take a position... ie. you believe that SGD will appreciate vs RM, then save in SGD. If you believe RM will appreciate vs SGD, then save in RM.

Me... I believe Malaysia is a failed country, and either BN or Malaysia will blow up sooner or later ... possibly both if the majority of Malays cannot accept the fact that bumiputra status means nothing if Petronas doesn't discover oil faster than the growth rate of Malay population and/or faster than the rate of decline of their already dismal productivity and creativity. So, I'll keep the majority of my savings in SGD and SG property. There's a reason why Singapore is (iirc) only second to Switzerland in terms of where the rich park their money.

I will vote for Tan Jee Say. You already have a parliament with 97% PAP, 100% PAP cabinet and an admin service (ie. civil service elite) with 100% PAP cadres. I won't pay $4.3 million for a former PAP DPM to be President. If that's the case, might as well abolish the presidency and appoint Tony Tan as honorary DPM. That would be cheaper. There's absolutely no check and balance.

I will prefer Tan Jee Say too, cos coming from his background, he seems more entreprenurial / bsuiness mindset, which more capitalist and less socialist, hence good for "us".. brows.gif .
I actually think Tan Jee Say will push a more populist agenda, and advocate the current sentiments of the Singaporean public. He will be anti immigration, foreign talent (more so than the other candidates) and pro-spending (ie. use of govt reserves for social and medical welfare).

Sadly my company do not pay me CPF in cash... but I don't think I'll forever work in SG, current plan is around 3-5 years...
If it's only 3-5 years, then you'd probably don't want your $50K or so stuck in Cpf for another 30 years before you can get it back.

QUOTE(Shinichi)
For me PR is good if I plan to change job in future...
But of your time frame is only 3-5, would you even be changing jobs?

I'm in IT industry and borderline of EP... and with current announcement on EP, I'm getting a bit worried...
Look, if you're worried your profile is not strong enough for an EP renewal, it's not going to be strong enough for a PR, isn't it?

myself shortlisted a suzuki SX4 or a Airwave, leaning toward airwave

The upcoming Suzuki Swift Sport would be nice. I also quite like the Kia Coupe within that price range. Add another 20-30K, I'd go for any model with the VW 1.4 twincharger and DSG gearbox.

new jetta? then mod it with stage 2 chip  rclxms.gif  as powerful as stock gti
Unless you get the 2L Jetta which isn't very common, the chip will have up the turbo boost of the 1.4 or 1.6 way above the standard GTi to come up with the same power output. However, the intercooler, radiator, oil cooler, water pump and oil pump are too small, plus the fact that the turbine is smaller so it'll be heating plenty fast at such high boost ratios. The block, cylinder head are also not made for that abnormal above-GTi boost level. Then comes the gearbox and the brakes.

In a nutshell... chip ups need to be done properly by upgrading everything else. And by the time you do it properly, you could have paid for the higher model already.

HP Singapore doesn't seem to have reduced its prices though. Still S$599 for 16gb.

QUOTE(RabbitS @ Aug 22 2011, 03:23 PM)
hehehe, diff is the 1.4 twincharger is not just turbo... there's super charging as well... therefore doesnt mean all the power have to come from spooling the turbo.. usually above certain rpm the super charger turns off and the turbo kicks in... but i believe you can keep the super charger on all the way  rclxms.gif
Like you said, the supercharger is disconnected by the clutch at a fairly low rpm. From that rpm on, the turbine provides the boost. When it is at full boost, which is often because the engine is small, the turbine is small and the power output required is large - the turbine is run at the limits (I believe beyond) of it's efficiency. I reckon the oil coolant will heat up too much for the stock oil cooler and radiator to handle and the compressed intake air will be heated too much for the stock intercooler to handle.

QUOTE(RabbitS)
gearbox no prob... both the 6-speed and 7-speed dsg can take those power, brakes?
That's not true. Have a read of the VW forums. It's well known why the 6 speed wet clutch DSG is used for the GTI, R etc, but the 7 speed dry clutch DSG is limited to the lower torque models.

QUOTE(RabbitS)
just change to ceramic pads lor... caliper still can take it...
But can the stock hoses, stock seals etc take it? Are you sure the stock iron rotors can handle the heat of ceramic pads without warping?

QUOTE(RabbitS)
dont need change intercooler/radiator/oil cooler/ water pump/ oil pump... usually only trucks or rally cars need this as their turbo is always kicking in
1. Small engine + small turbine + high boost to create high peak power ensures that you will be on boost practically all the time. Question for you... have you ever driven a turbo car longer than 5 minutes? Unless you're off throttle most of the time, your boost will ALWAYS be kicking in. In fact, all the time. And if you drive "at speed" like on the NS Hwy, you'll be on full boost for extended periods.

2. I'm sorry, from this statement alone, I think you have absolutely no idea how to modify a turbo car and are just regurgitating whatever you've heard/read.

Heavy mod on the car, not only scared TP/LTA stopped you at roadblock, but also gaypo neighbor who go report your car to them.
In Singapore, there's really no need to modify your car. If you want more power, just buy the higher model. For instance, the Evo X is only about 50-60% more than a standard Lancer. In Malaysia, it's triple the price. It's just the way the taxes work.

I guess in order to get the best signal, there is not much choice but to test it out. Even in Tempines, some area performance might be better than the other.  :-)
Actually different rooms in my flat will have different signal strength. I'm on Singtel for mobile BB, and Starhub for iPhone plan. Same issue with both, in terms of different rooms.

Aiyo, buy so powderful car for wat lar. SG so small no place to run, so jam and everywer got camera.  Human cross the road is bigger than ur car, u have to give way first.
Just get one that looks expensive from the outside and the most noisy muffler will do.
You don't have to "run" to enjoy driving a powerful car.

Going 0->110->0kmh in an Altis and in an Evo is a very different experience. It's not about top speed. It's about the way you get to the speed you want and back. The feel, responsiveness, acceleration, braking, grip, the sound etc... it's just different. I used to go on biz trips for a week or two, and the moment I reach home from the airport, I'd put down my bags, jump into the car and go for a drive.

My guess is that you've never felt that before. Then you will never understand.

Official limit is 90km/h island wide. And driving in Singapore is really enjoying.
Buy 300-400hp car, drive at 90kmh. Oh well... it's not unlike buying an expensive DSLR+lens and take bad pictures of ugly gfs, leaves and cobwebs.

hi guys, does anyone know where to report landlord if the landlord tries to breach contract in terms of notice period?
The notice period is 1 month till mid september and I have paid rental until then. How to complain the landlord who tries to get tenant out of the house with tons of accuse and lies? Agent is engaged but she took agent fee and gone with the wind already.
If it is a dispute (breach of contract), see a lawyer. You will need to take this to court. Not sure if arbitration or mediation or consumer claims tribunal etc are applicable though.

If it is a crime (cheating or fraud), then see the police. They will investigate and if there's a case, charge them in court.

shit lo, this week just came in a lady CEO in our company...

single, aged 40+... shouting and scolding staff without valid reasons, ridiculous and unpleasant attitude...

haih, anyone's company got similar kind of bosses in top management?
All I can say is that:

1. There's always a reason for every kind of behaviour. That includes "shouting and scolding".

2. Anybody's who HIRED to be the CEO (ie. not open his own business to call himself President Director CEO), they were hired for a reason.

In the meantime while she gets her footing, try to avoid appearing to be too "sympathetic" or "cliquey" with those who were being shouted at and scolded. That will do you nothing but harm. Lay low, stay out of the way.
