from v1:
QUOTE(BBXiong @ Jul 5 2011, 01:37 PM)
really? i also see only some in XDA claims that they didnt ancounter that issue, and it's only caused by mainly improper docking... but my dock is firmly attached edi ler... have u tried peeking into the gap to check? cos that's how i discovered it
*
i'll check it out later tonight (or maybe in 1-2 days time). but as a habit, i usually put TF to sleep, dock (this will bring the TF back on), the put it to sleep again before closing the lid. but ya, i have always wondered how 'smart' the TF is at detecting this...

Question to transformer owners: Does the transformer has built in radio to listen to local radio stations?

this USB3 thingy i read in v1 (last few pages, i think). it's interesting but haven't had the time to really understand it...

but if i'm not mistaken... a summary would be:
* get a USB3 charger... attach to the TF charging cable (when we pull out from the 3-pin socket, its actually a usb connection)

is the above understanding correct?

and to bring this further...
* the usb3 charger could be similar to the one used for charging pad2.
* the same usb3 charger can be used to charge phones like sgs2?

not sure about the the iPad 2, but the same USB charger can be used to charge other phones, because according to USB 3.0 standard, it is backwards compatible to previous USB versions, and iirc they can also charge at the higher voltage, so it can be faster also

V2! rclxms.gif great work cyberkewl thumbup.gif

ya, bbxiong, peaked through the TF last nite, nope it does not wake up....
have you enable the mobile dock batery saving mode? it disables the wake up function on dock
left it overnite with TF 100% and dock 46%, this morning it was 98% and 45%. so...i believe the dock doesnt charge if TF asleep.

my aunt asked me just 2 days back -- whether i know of 'jalan belakang' to get ipad2. she complained she can't get one. i got la... but i asked her...

why you need ipad2 for? she explained to me her needs, etc...

i told her... just get what i have la... TF101. told her about it and said will show her this weekend. she seems excited.

the problem for me now is... if she wants TF101, do i recommend Evernew to her?!? heh heh...

Certain device such as my phone will also charge when it reach below then 95%. I read about it somewhere that it is to reduce the number of charging cycle.
Lets say if you device is without such system, whenever it reach 99% it will charge, again and again overnight, so if 1% every 3 hours, then 3 charge per night.

Btw, my screen got a line of dead pixel!!! rclxub.gif can claim warranty ar?

Good one, V2 already smile.gif

recently I found that can't attach file direct from USB drive by email.

I was sending empty email ><. after copy the files into SDCARD (internal memory) then only successful for email attachment.

well, what can we do with the TF besides what you have mentioned? smile.gif

but ya... same -- movies, surfing net, play games. dun think i've done any 'work' on it... lol.

maybe another 1-2 more weeks, we can have fun on this forum by asking everyone to list or do a print screen of their apps they installed (minus any adult ones)... lol...

Added on July 6, 2011, 1:38 pmexperienced 'heat' at the back... first time but i think could be because of the apps (ok, its a game) i was playing -- vendetta online. played for about 15-30mins. probably try again later this week and see if i really like the game. initial feel is i dun like this game that much. similar to Galaxy on Fire 2 (THD) but i kinda like GoF2.

A workaround for those facing the keyboard lag issue...
QUOTE(CyberKewl @ Jun 8 2011, 08:23 PM)
Yes confirm fixed..I also found a way to fix the keyboard lag on forums..but this fix will take away your flash functionality...u can toggle it though...here it goes:

Type about:debug in the address window then press enter. You will not get any feedback. Then click the action bar icon on the top right of your browser then go to settings. You will notice a new section called debug. Go there and uncheck open gl rendering...problem solved but this will disable flash. Hope Google will come up with a fix for this soon :-)
*

For me Opera mobile solved this issue and with flash. It could help other people too, if mentioned on page 1 of this topic. icon_rolleyes.gif

Notice the straight line. It's not actually dead pixel, but rather I think is a wiring strip problem.

no sure if rainx chemicals will kill your SP or not...

that's one reason why the quote on P1 comes with "use at own risk". coz not sure how rainx reacts with screen. but we quoted from xda forum (i think) that has got ppl using and says it works... so should be ok la.

the other concern... rainx with your fingers... will it cause allergic reaction, etc?!? smile.gif

personally, i found the dock useful coz its also a battery.

but if you mean using as keyboard, i also think it is personally useful for me. shortcut keys are good. plus, i still find typing on physical keyboard faster that on-screen keyboard. maybe not used to on-screen keyboard yet - plus, have not even successfully use swype (dunno how to use it properly), etc...

there should be... unless using some other type of keyboard. it could also be just a key with a weird kind of arrow (which is the symbol for ENTER).

yes, the same friend.. he just collected his TF today, during collection he already checked it and the screen working fine. But after came back.. suddenly screen cannot detect touch. i feel so pity for him. but after searched about the issue, seems like some ppl also encountering the same issue and the way to fix it is to drain the battery 1st. hope it working, otherwise dunno wat to say already doh.gif

It doesn't really make much sense for samsung to release touchwiz for honeycomb because the whole idea of honeycomb is to prevent OEMs from creating a "better" interface for android to reduce the delay when producing firmware upgrades. Now samsung go and pandai pandai add in touchwiz will slow down the firmware updates for sure. Thankfully asus only made very minor modifications to the honeycomb UI so their updates should be speedier.

Just to update, seems like draining the battery is really the solution to non responsive touchscreen. My friend's TF now working again, at last!

for movie, due to some codec limitation currently both also need do convert if u want best playback experience.. however the screen ratio for the TF is more suitable for movies, reading PDF also the screen ratio(longer) would also be better for reading in portrait mode.. typing emails and docs also the keyboard would be a great help if u plan to get it, other wise, u would have more space on landscape also due to the longer screen, that would help to reduce the mistakes

however u just wan facebook + light browsing + angry bird, i would suggest ipad only, for simple usage like this better stick with idiot proof products

Added on July 7, 2011, 1:50 pmbtw about the screen auto light up again after i close the lid... i tried disabling the touch pad, and it really works, it doesnt light up anymore when i close the lid now after i disable, while i try enable back, it will light up

Overall user experience is ipad2 better but if you want to play some free games (stated above) or down to the system level to configure this and that, go for TF or android.

Overall user experience is ipad2 better but if you want to play some free games (stated above) or down to the system level to configure this and that, go for TF or android.

fieldrunners quick test
there seems to be some glitches in the map selection menu, the modes selection wording seems weird (there should be three selection classic, extended and endless, but here you cant read them) sweat.gif
also the field went blank for a moment when the game about to start,
tried few times....it seems that to un-blank the field i have to pinch (zoom in/out) the map sweat.gif
graphic seems nice in menus but somehow i feel like the in game contrast is quite low ... tongue.gif
well.....hoping that they'll fix these problems icon_rolleyes.gif

Added on July 7, 2011, 4:04 pmwhat? android market just label fieldrunners not compatible with TF....
not a while ago its compatible....unlucky me......

well, it seems that even though its incompatible, but i manage to run it in TF, so does this means that we could -at our own risk- purchase and install incompatible apps to our devices?

this game not officially compatible but i tried the game and works fine except a few issues:

- cant read text properly, looks like not tested on tablet and not optimized for it. no big deal cos its a tower defence game, not rocket science.
- when game starts you will get a black background. to solve this need to manually to a pinch to zoom then problem will be solved. you can of course zoom out after that if you want. this is just a hack to solve it.

other than that, it is pretty much playable, i just finished two modes on the same level smile.gif

if you already know this is the tablet you want... nothing to add, really.

* just do the normal checks for the screen -- see if got dead pixels, etc... get the shop to agree to let you check before paying.
* screen bleeding is quite normal -- so dun be too annoyed over this.
* get the dock. smile.gif

if you mean plug in the 3g usb thingy, i recall someone posted a hack on it. but out of the box, no, plugging in the 3g usb stick into the dock won't get you connected. you can use those mifi thingy to act as a router which the TF can connect to.

my ac adapter seems kaput now.
the lock mechanism already broken, i have to press it really hard a few times before it can charge my TF.

do i have to go straight to asus service center in imbi plaza or going back to the shop where i bought it to claim warranty?

i don't expect them to have ready stock for the ac adapter replacement.

a guy from subatomic studio replied my concerns saying that they have to manually exclude tablets and i'm caught during the changeovers sweat.gif
anyway, the game was as it should be minus the unreadable text (if you've played long enuf in apple stuffs you tend to remember the details) and momentarily blank field icon_rolleyes.gif

yes the game is pretty much playable and its a lot easier to play on a tablet and the graphics are really high resolution. I've tried playing it on my nexus one but i feel that playing on a tablet is a lot better, so I hope subatomic studios can help solve the tablet issue because this game is really best played on a tablet!

I remember I have installed Friend Me before and uninstalled it last time due to its inability to manage notification. Now the new version seems to be better already, at least got notification at the left side.

When you come to replying a message in inbox, you will be directed to the mobile FB site, I am wondering why FB limit the API usage for the public. Anyone knows about this?

I just did a quick test on it, commenting people's posts from the timeline is very convenient. Just the replying parts that got problem and if you add more than one account lagi teruk.

If you want to use the chat function, you can always use third party apps like IM+ Pro and ebuddy. smile.gif

Ebuddy lagi best, it can connect to MSN, Yahoo, ICQ (if you are still using), FB all at the same time within the same interface (messy a bit). smile.gif

i don have any 3G dongle, otherwise i be happy to try it out... alternatively, if u don mind me asking, what phone ur gf using? if iPhone, can just bluetooth tether, or wifi tether if the iOS is version 4.3, just bring along the cable so that she can charge her phone while she tether, that way it wont affect battery life also

i think your sister enabled quick controls in the settings.

now to reverse it
1) open your browser
2) slide your finger from the left or right bezel to the screen and hold
3) slide your finger to the settings icon and lift your finger up
4) goto labs , uncheck quick controls

Guys, I've added the EEE Pad Transformer FAQ videos, software & hardware overview videos to the first page under the FAQ section. It contains videos that were published by Asus some time this year. Do check them out especially for those who are interested to buy the transformer!

She just felt so...'leceh' have to tether and doesn't want to get one if it has no 3G. I am actually looking at this cos good to have a dock = notebook...

yes wifi model only at the moment, 3g version coming soon but not sure when will make it to malaysia. tell you what dude, we're not here to blindly support either, we just love android period. ipad2 works great but you lack a lot of customisation options, no flash, no microsd, limited to no external storage support..buy according to what your needs are. if you love to customise, buy an android tablet. otherwise, get an ipad. its not too difficult to decide. good luck smile.gif

did you try to take out the microsd and then restart? its possible that the OS might be caching some stuff from the microsd..i dont have a large microsd so i dont really see much slowdown during startup. .

frankly speaking, if there are both 3g and non 3g model to choose now, I will still buy the non 3g model cuz I don't see the need to have always on broadband for the tab. tab is different from phone, u don't have it by your side 24/7 like your phone.

for me, I only need internet for the tab when I'm actually using it which most of the time I'm either in wifi zone or I'll be tethering from my phone.

but that's me la, I find this combination is better haha and my friend with a 3g Ipad 2 agrees with me and now regretting lol, he say should have gotten the none 3g ipad instead

ya, i kind of agree on what you are saying. we support android so that ios has a competitor so that it can become better. if i were you, i will take ipad2, it is best for user.
*
actually what's best for users is that apple should give the users an option to enable/disable flash and not make the choice for them..haha..with android, its all up to you. dont like flash? turn it off! simply as that smile.gif

apple always decide on behalf of the user and i heard that they are having some issues with adobe hence no flash in their device for the time being.

Tf101 is for quick surfing on bed or living room with wifi.

yeah. recently i tried bringing out a 10" when i always been carrying my SGT 7".
i must say. 10" tablets are meant to be at home or in back packs..
saw a lot of people carry their ipads around in cases. Its really troublesome to me.

the other day was at starbucks. 7 person. 6 ipads. 1 Transformer. hehe..what a scenario.

i also love android, but i already have a nexus s, i just need something on the run i can use to online and play some games or apps. I love the sleek UI of honeycomb, the homescreen is absolutely stunning, but the apps is minimal..

Of course it will drain because the tablet is still in use unless you shutdown the tablet entirely. The amount of battery used is less but it will still use for sure because lets say you have wifi connected you will still get your emails even though it is asleep in standby. This is the same with iPad so there's nothing to worry about.

how much of a drain are we talking about? And where is the drain coming from? Tablet or dock? You can check by getting the xda widget : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123363

for those whose considering of getting the TF around klang valley, but reluctant to go heavy traffic mall sites,
you may opt for mines and ioi mall, there are several shops that sells TF there,
mines - 2 shops (both facing mobile shops area, one neat sony center and the other in the middle section - IT Comp Sales and Services)
ioi mall - 3 shops at digital center (action pc house in the middle, evernew in front, and the other store inline with snooker center)

Better to go to those good stores. Heard of many complaints about Evernew ASus outlet which gave crappy service to their customers resulting in consumer tribunal complaints. Better to avoid such issues.

never really noticed it coz when recharging, usually i leave it alone. by the time its fully charged, i turn on and see the lock screen. how to tell if its rebooted? check the running time, isit?

Added on July 10, 2011, 10:21 pmanother Q... planning to purchase my first paid apps.

what happens after i click on the priced apps? what kinda payment methods are accepted? also, i was checking my Google account details and noticed my ccard details is already there... means if i click a purchase link, i will automatically purchase? sorry if the Q sounds stupid... smile.gif

Added on July 10, 2011, 10:25 pmi'm not really into FB chats or using that much of FB -- for one, i dun like FB coz it dun really respect privacy. usually on FB only to play games. i prefer to use twitter... and now trying out Google+.

anyway, downloaded tweetdeck on my phone and using it. can even stream FB posts... not bad! it's also got foursquare integration. so from one apps, i can access and post to these few social networks.

i guess it should work on the TF too... sorry, just got an android phone and spending more time on it. secondly, wife and son hogging the TF, so i hardly get the chance...

The rebooting issue... I saw the TF booting up by itself even though I shut down before charging. Scary... really got autobot/decepticon inside tongue.gif

Buying apps:
It will bring you to a final confirmation page (showing the last 4 didits of your credit card, or you may be aske to key in your credit card number if it's the first time). Click purchase and the app will be downloaded automatically.
If you have other android devices e.g. hp you can download the same app without paying another time.

huh!!!!? I thought that's the behaviour by design? if u shutdown tf 1st then plug in the charger and charge its design to boot up, this will happen every time cause its meant to be like this.

however, if u really want to charge your tf in shutdown mode then u should charge tf while its on then only shutdown while its charging. then tf will stay shutdown until u manually turn it on again.

and...yes, if shutdown before charging, TF will turn on automatically the moment you plug the charger.
never tried shutting down TF during charging coz there's no indication light to monitor the charging process sweat.gif

If you have other android devices e.g. hp you can download the same app without paying another time.

thanks for the info on the purchase process... ok, i guess i will try it out soon. now i worry if i add my account on the TF and my son suddenly go click here and there... mampus my cc statement at month end.

just curious... if i add my account, download the paid apps, then remove my account, will the apps still be there? it will be a safer way to ensure no accidental purchases... i have not tried this out... but if anyone has, please share.

as for TF booting up... aiyah, that one i dun consider as reboot la... heh heh... ya, its a normal behaviour as pointed out by other owner. i thought when some mentioned of reboot, it means the TF is running... then halfway charging, it shuts down and restarts by itself. smile.gif

like appstore,i think you still have to key in p/w before confirm purchase right? So that is no risk worry your son will unintentionally to purchase the applications.

For me no need key in password, you'll be automatically logged in when you access Android Market.

As for the question on using the purchased apps when the google account is removed from the phone, my guess is it won't be a problem
as the app is already installed on the phone. Unless the app requires some online authentication e.g My Backup Pro, Documents 2Go, etc?

I see... this is my first Android tablet so I find it strange that it boots up each time I charge the battery. I've just googled this behaviour and it
it seems almost all Android tablet is like that (although I don't know why that's the case - I prefer mine to stay switched off when I charge it).

I do encounter some rare restarts/reboots when I'm using the TF though, but I guess it's common in all OS.

restarts during use is not normal unless you somehow 'asked' the equipment to restart -- usually via power button. if its happening more often, you might wanna check if its weird apps causing this or it could be hardware issue...

dun worry... TF is also a first device for many of us. myself included. we're all here to learn and share. so now you know its normal. wink.gif

You can goto checkout.google.com and remove your credit crd from there... You still need to keep your google account for license check process... Why not use it with debit card..?

no major difference for tablet because apps are stored on internal storage not on SD. for movies should be fine except for 1080p i think..have not tried 1080p on anything lower than a class4 sd/microsd before. i think class 4 should be sufficient.

I use Vplayer to handle all my video media. Bought it from the market. also use volume+ to increased my speaker volume. Now my son and me can enjoy spongebob ha ha ha ha. I have both my micro SD and Sd card both 16GB with movies. Both classs 4.

According to Android Bug Tracker... Google claim Android support DUN already but some user report it's not working... http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1416 http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/de...717&q=dun%2Fpan

You could try with PdaNet... They claim you can tether from bluetooth DUN... http://junefabrics.com/android/

I borrowed a friend's unit to pair with my Blackberry 9800. Couldn't see any DUN profile. In fact, no bluetooth profile available at all to use after pairing.

Installed pdanet, still couldn't see any DUN from the Transformer. sad.gif

do you have some apps such as friend me or tweetdeck that checks for notification every x minutes? try increasing the frequency to 1 hour instead, these apps eat up battery because they constantly check the server. for apps that are not properly developed it may eat up more battery when wifi is not connected, depends on how the developer developed the app. this i cannot tell you which app eats up how much battery, you have to check and find out yourself (cos i dont know myself). personally i try to avoid such apps or disable the notification entirely if possible (when i go to sleep).

Check whether your TF keeps rebooting ( this eats up battery). I read some forums saying the rebooting happens especially when the unit is docked and in an "open" position.
I experienced random reboots when I charge my TF or when I left my unit idle for some time.

See the link above. Note IF U BOOST TO MAX, BE CAUTIOUS ON YOUR OVERALL VOLUME. CLIPPING THE SPEAKER CAN DAMAGE IT.SO BOOST MODERATELY.

this really depends on the media u r playing. but me, Im using flat sett at Freq, speaker boost to +7 abd Bass max to 11+. I think u can boost to max, but just make sure u control overall volume for the media u play. Even the setting above may not guarenty you wont clip the speaker.. tongue.gif

just sharing this interesting article...

QUOTE
How Asus triumphed over Apple

It has been two months since I made the switch to the Asus, and I am happy to report that I don’t regret my choice. While I continue to use a MacBook for work, and a MacMini and an iMac at home, among several Apple products, I don’t travel with a laptop or Apple product and still manage to effectively field large volumes of e-mail and edit documents.

The Transformer has allowed me to replace both my iPad and my MacBook Air without setting foot in an Apple store, and the Transformer’s unique combination of a tablet and slim keyboard dock allow it to fill two important functions — functions Apple has yet to consolidate.

The Asus Transformer is something rare. It has reduced the number of devices I use, while Apple keeps driving that number up. The iTunes single-computer requirement — a feature Apple is working to change — forced me to limit the use of my MacBook Air. The laptop stayed at home, since I feared it being lost, stolen or damaged. Thanks to a misplaced dairy product, it met its demise anyway. If you are an Apple product user who lives with the same fear, or have trouble with the touch-screen keyboard like I do, an Android tablet or netbook might be a greater improvement than you realize.

3.2 and shy speakers are two different things...

shy speakers has been identified as a programming/ coding error -- a missing '0' in the codes. so, theoretically speaking, asus could issue OTA update for it anytime... they could also do it together with 3.2. so, its anyone's guess... we could possibly also miss 3.2 and maybe get ice-cream sandwich. never know, would we... *looks at shahz* wink.gif

Custom rom disable checking update service... You need to unroot and restore back to official rom... Or you can wait for 3.2 custom rom...

Yup, Jusco Ipoh got a SNS booth which sell TF. And if buy on Jusco Day will get RM10 for each RM100 spent. But it's over in Ipoh. Do look out for other branches.

Btw, 2 questions to ask.

1. I realise some software like RawDroid cannot be found in Market. When I tried install from computer, they say this software is not supported in your country. Anyone facing such problem? (Am looking for a free program that can view RAW image file. Any suggestion?)
2. My keyboard dock kinda funny. The left USB port can detect external harddisk and thumbdrive but right only only thumbdrive and not external HDD. Any idea why?

Thanks if anyone can help me.

for not supported country, you can always try proxy. i think that was how we did it when we had this error earlier on. i believe it can still be used for this purpose.

ya using it, but i highlighted my concerns about this in another thread.

using apk version, we won't automatically get the latest version, right? my concern is using outdated version. on the market, i can see Google+ was last updated on 14th July 2011. i know the APK i got was downloaded a few days back. however, version wise, its the same. how?

for not supported country, you can always try proxy. i think that was how we did it when we had this error earlier on. i believe it can still be used for this purpose.
*
Hmm... i was trying to look around bout proxy but couldn't get. Mind to tell me how u proxy and download from market? Sorry but I tried to install the apk file but apparently cannot get the latest version as cannot update also.

Yup, able to do with the second method. Thank you very much rclxms.gif Anyway realise something funny. After that when i click back proxy setting, the initial page where it requires me to key in proxy is gone. So it means I will use this proxy forever and not able to change back? hmm.gif

Nvm, found the solution di smile.gif

Other than lowyat, digital mall could be the next bet. But try to avoid Evernew outlets due to bad customer service. Too much negative comments about them for comfort.

welcome! actually in android it is not necessary to close running appliations, the OS will handle it for you. however if for some reason you still want to stop a particular app, you can go to the settings > applications area and click on the application you want to stop, then click on the force stop button (or stop button).if you need a task manager you can try to go to the android market and just do a search for task manager and use that to easily view and terminate running applications.

Erm..if you mean smooth as in physically smooth then no app can ever do that..if you mean in terms of lag, the latest honeycomb 3.1 update should have ironed out most of the lag issues although there are minor ones still..overall you wont be getting something super smooth like ipad because its a different OS and android is a more capable platform as a whole with true multitasking and such.

Got my SP here http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=1918367&hl= and very happy with it.

I feel casing for TF currently at premium price compared to the fruit. Better to wait a while as price will surely come down.

guys, after i've updated, the ram seems increased in capacity. I dig up my old post for the ram issue, i found that my ram actually increased from

140-used and 380-free to 178-used and 430-free! wow! ohmy.gif

i think the update manages the ram usage, and eventually the system will become a bit more faster...hopefully biggrin.gif

Anyone knows a compatible GPS navigation app for the TF?
Sygic Aura - no native support, can't download from Market
Papago X5 - won't run, stuck at "Initializing" stage.

It can as it has a GPS antenna, but I don't know if there's any offline GPS navigation app for Honeycomb.

like? no audio sound? that would be because the audio format is not supported by the TF, for the problems u might wanna convert them to the suitable format

Opera browser can let us do text input without lagging but when I use it with facebook, it has bugs especially when I am commenting.

so far ASUS has been pretty quick at releasing their updates. they've recently released a minor upgrade to 3.1 and 3.2 update is due out soon too, so no worries.

as cyberkewl rightly pointed out, updates from asus is, imho, extremely good. within product launch in US till now, we've gotten 1 major upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1. there's also the dock upgrade. and now this (btw, i also noticed tegra zone apps updated itself after that). then 3.2 is on its way...

if only the latest upgrade fixed the shy speakers. i have not tested it but since no feedback from others on this, i m guessing its not fixed. can't test now coz in bedroom and son's asleep liao...

Yea, Evernew really sucks. Unwilling to bear responsibility when there are product issues. My friend actually lodged a consumer tribunal complaint against them. Better buy your unit elsewhere.

cyberkewl - did you noticed the increase in free ram? well, up to last nite it decreased by bit, 177used - 380-free sweat.gif

maybe the increase earlier was just a refresh after installing the update

one more thing, does the sound became louder after the update (but not balanced, it still have the shy lefty) or is it just me experiencing placebo effect laugh.gif

I experienced this quite often, but since then I've:
1. Uninstalled some apps I downloaded
2. Make sure the unit is docked securely (check the silver tab that locks the TF to the keyboard)
3. Updated the system

So far no reboots *touch wood*, my guess is the update fixed some stability issues?

Does it take so long to boot? Mine maybe more than 1 minute to boot up (I did not use a clock to time it).
I did notice before the update, the main screen with the keylock sign appeared before all the widgets and processes are loaded.
After the update, if I immediately unlocked the TF when the main screen appears, all widgets, etc. are already correctly displayed.

Did you install a lot of apps or put a lot of widgets?

Some apps to help you troubleshoot:
System Panel (or any similar system monitor app) - check CPU activity and speed when idle (should be 250-300 MHz and <10% activity)
aLogcat (or any log viewer) - check the logs to see if there's any "warning" activity (red colour texts, you can't miss them)

alin jr - i did timed my startup just now, it took approximately 1:07:8 nod.gif

not sure how was it before the update but i think its around that time also

unlike panadol, my widgets havent finished loading when i unlock the screen immediately after startup.

i have 2 pages with widget, a total of 5 in those 2 pages,

try removing the widgets and reboot, see how it goes, maybe...just maybe it's caused by some of your widgets sweat.gif

yes.......when you got like too many recent app list....no way to clear them up beside rebooting sweat.gif

i do it kind a like once a week, not sure if too many recent app list will take on the ram (even manually stopping the app in running apps wont clear up the recent apps lists) but i'm still hoping that by rebooting once a week i could avoid my TF become lembab laugh.gif

something is definitely not right if it takes 3mins to boot up.

i can only suggest the extreme option -- do factory reset and test. if it still takes 3mins, bring to service centre. if after reset and it boots in 1min, then you know its sth u installed. wink.gif

I've just timed mine from the moment i press the power button till i see the honeycomb home screen - takes less than 2 minutes, 1 minute 50 seconds to be exact. then another 20-30 seconds before i can properly swipe the homescreen without lag.

I've a lot of apps installed so i guess this is a normal bootup time tongue.gif

Anyone experienced SOD before? Tonight undocked my unit, but each time after sleeping for 1-2 minutes it can't wake up if I press the power button. Need to hold the power button and reboot instead!

hmm, the pyramid evernew staffs are quite helpful, they straight away call the service centre to ask about stock availability and tell me fastest by one week, instead of "dunno, cannot guarantee".. they say got spare part available for the speakers, just hope mine aint caused by motherboard issue...
and i also ask them my keyboard dock one part of the housing actually sticks out, so can claim warranty a not, they say just send along and see.. no harm there, since the KBD wont be of much use without the tablet itself too, haha

I shut it down last night and this morning boot it up again. So far no SOD yet, so I guess this is a random occurrence.
I think my Transformer too tired, so need to sleep whole night so this morning very energetic already flex.gif biggrin.gif

so far as i know, not quite possible, the one available to us now is just the WiFi version also, technically the 3G version should be able to if google/3rd party enables the telephony function, but as of now, i don think so

yeah i wouldnt advice anyone to use the tablet to replace a smartphone..better get a cheap android phone then tether the connection when you need 3g on your tablet. then can use phone and tablet + wifi/3g also smile.gif

Sorry for annoying, as i am a noob in it/computer stuff.

cheap android phone then tether the connection when you need 3g on your tablet.<--- This sentence is it something like i connect my phone through cable to asus tablet, then tablet will have 3G internet connection. Please correct me, if i am wrong.

Is it cable connection or something like bluetooth-ing with my phone for that 3G connection?

Cable will be troublesome.

for tethering, there are 3 kinds right now,
first, USB tethering, which means cable tethering, but needs driver from the connecting side to support it
second, Bluetooth tethering. It uses bluetooth to connect to ur device, and ur device will use ur phone as a bluetooth modem to connect to the internet
third, Wifi tethering. It use the built in wifi to let ur phone act as a router-alike device, allowing more then one device to connect and share ur 3G connection.

for now, TF supports 2 and 3, so there's no need of cable. However i would suggest using bluetooth tethering, cos it uses a lot less battery compared to Wifi tethering, and u don have to worry that someone might tap into ur connection. Also, Wifi tethering have 2 type as i know, Hotspot and Ad-Hoc. Hotspot will show ur Wifi as if it's from a router, like iOS 4.3 tethering, while Ad-Hoc would be like connection to another peer device. The latter is not supported in TF unless u apply some fix which require rooting.

anything that other find wrong or misleading feel free to correct me, this is based on my own understanding on tethering icon_rolleyes.gif

why? rooting is easy and harmless de... u don even need to scare u brick ur device, just use APX mode to reflash a proper firmware into it and we are good to go. Tegra 2 is a very good flashing chip, haha

all these display tests, etc... they are subjective. no two person's eyes and likes are the same. some will say LED TVs are nice but i've found them to be not as good as LCD. some say samsung's super amoled + produces fake colours but i kinda like it.

so, who is the right person to say if the screen is nice or not? you, of course... you as in the buyer and user and owner.

if the display pleases you... then its good enough. look at it for long time... play some movies... dun bother looking from like 45%, 80%, etc... chances are, normal viewing is not going to be like that. hold it under normal light conditions and see if the reflection bothers you, etc... that's how one should test the displays. wink.gif

i can easily ask... who likes durians? some will say its the worst fruit they have ever come across and give it -10. some would love it so much that they will give +10. even the smell... some say it smells bad. but others will say it smells heavenly. how to agree? smile.gif

Sorry if that has been asked before, but I would like to know the default build no. and whatnot (virgin TF without root or modding or update) freshly opened from

sealed packaging. I want to buy one, but not too confident whether it would be a completely new one or ones that have been touched and tempered with, software

wise. blush.gif It is difficult to find one here and have to order to be able to have one. shakehead.gif

nope, this is based on the color gamut standard and all, contrast, brightness, color saturation, all those have some static data to tell, the article is comparing against higher contrast/better color gamut/better color accuracy, this one is not really subjective, rather, they have some really professional testing method to test on those that i mentioned. You notice that on the second link he mention about color gamut(which already have a standard for accuracy), color accuracy, contrast, viewing angle.. those are all statistic based, and they do reflect on how in real life it affect us. those that are doing research can read up those before they know what they can expect.
i do agree that screen is user subjective, but most user would prefer accurate color with less reflection and higher contrast, so i definitely think the article is helpful, at least to people that understands those terms... ppl that dunno, u can start learning those terms, as u will see them much more when u are researching for LCD/plasma/LED TV

lol that sifu calling reminds me of another thread that i kinda dislike right now...
that aside, game list that are compatible

Kairosoft Games(Game Dev, Hot Springs) -- use only low setting, "Graphic Priority" cases performance issue

Asphalt 6 for Optimux 2x -- lags due to higher resolution, however, overclocking to 1.6Ghz makes it smooth as butter

Cut The Rope -- limited to portait mode only, even if u docked the keyboard

angry bird series all no issue apart from some lags when the ads appear

there were a few more, but cant remember right now cos seldom touch since i flash back to stock to claim warranty

u mentioned overclocking it to 1.6GHz, is this safe to OC? will the warranty be void if OC it?

u mentioned overclocking it to 1.6GHz, is this safe to OC? will the warranty be void if OC it?
*
it's safe, as long as u stick within nvidia's maximum voltage, u wont fry ur device, i saw temperature highest also is 30+ only...
go xda forum and check out clemsyn kernal, that was the one i was using, stable 1.6Ghz
as for warranty i think it does... cos u are tampering with the recovery, rom and kernal... but easily flash back as well, took me less then 10 minutes to flash back to stock 3.1 firmware

If can, put the link here also...

Wish Gameloft support TF, too bad they don't at the moment.

i installed cracked asphalt6 last time and it's FC halfway through the game.

is it working perfectly for yours?
perhaps because of illegitimate APK, so i uninstalled it.

nope, this is based on the color gamut standard and all, contrast, brightness, color saturation, all those have some static data to tell, the article is comparing against higher contrast/better color gamut/better color accuracy, this one is not really subjective, rather, they have some really professional testing method to test on those that i mentioned.
*
again, my personal opinion is that while we can quantify the lcd brightness, colour and what not, someone's perfect red might be another person's imperfect red. wink.gif

Sometimes my TF detects all other wifi signals except mine. Need to restart my wifi router a few times until TF detects it. Don't know the reason though...

Added on July 22, 2011, 8:17 amjust sharing as i recall some bros here installed Gun Bros... I was sharing this at SGS2 thread as well. recently, i noticed Gun Bros was running in the background even though I was not playing it. Checked the permissions asked and 1 of it was the permission to start process/ service when the phone starts up.

you won't find Gun Bros as a running program but if you check the running services/ processes, it will be there.

personally, i dun see why a game needs to be started up when the tablet/ phone starts up. usually, in computers, this is a sign of spyware/ malware. i went an uninstalled Gun Bros. I have yet to check if its the same for other GLU games like Bug Village. already, i'm not happy that recently, Gun Bros started shoving the FB login thing each time we start, but now this (but i only noticed this recently -- previously, never really checked the permissions, i guess)?!? worse... FB request is in BM... lol.

dunno u guys know anot..
i found this in wikipedia

3.2 (Honeycomb) is "an incremental release that adds several new capabilities for users and developers." Highlights include optimization for a broader range of screen sizes; new "zoom-to-fill" screen compatibility mode; capability to load media files directly from the SD card; and an extended screen support API, providing developers with more precise control over the UI.

i tot is my problem having the difficulties to load the media files directly from SD card, but i also face the problem to open directly from hardisks..

"zoom-to-fill" feature is nice for the small sized apps..

Just read somewhere that TF does not detect WIFI channel 12-13, therefore have to set my router to use channel 1-11. Tested with Wifi Analyzer app and find that
this is indeed true.
Anyone else facing this problem?

no need to do that lar, just turn on ur tethering when u wanna get online, and on ur tablet side, just turn on bluetooth that time and connect to the iPhone, iirc when u are not connected, the bluetooth tethering will just stop itself, so it's just turning on ur bluetooth, that one battery life impact i would say not that big, u can leave it on whole day. if u tether 24/7 i would say bettery could be gone in mere hours, but will still be longer compared to wifi tethering. what i do was, i just leave tethering on, and connect to tablet, when i'm done, i disconnect from tablet side. when i wanna get online with it, i'll just reconnect again, few extra steps, but at least more battery life to my iPhone.. however sometimes i encounter some weird issue where my iPhone cannot be connected, i need to restart my iPhone for that, maybe it's just MyWi causing some issue. If battery life is a concern, bring along ur iPhone cable, u can charge it while u use TF.

did you try moboplayer or rockplayer? natively the stock player cannot play certain file formats but using a 3rd party software like moboplayer or rockplayer which uses software decoding can solve the issue. trust me, even ipad cant even play as many format as the transformer can..

Tested mobo, rock, and vplayer. Same prob. Then, when output a non.hd movie, the picture reproduction a little disappointing. Artifact very obvious and colour also run. Currently, n8 is a much better choice if want to output to HD tv.

Using my tf to reply this. Hehe. Love it still. laugh.gif laugh.gif

minor updates and performance fixed. you should at least notice your homescreen swiping is smoother now than previously. also if you have the keyboard dock and not using the default asus on screen keyboard, there is a dialog that usually pops up to warn you to switch to the default asus keyboard bla bla bla..there's now a checkbox to stop the annoying popup from showing..forever..those are the more obvious changes..nothing that much really

Hi all here.. Im getting a TF very soon, so i hv a few noob questions..

1 of my most concern, the productivity of TF.. since it comes with full docking keyboard, thus is there any full feature office document apps available? Means, can we do/create/edit documents in full feature similar as the MIcrosoft Office, or close to it?

Do TF owners here satisfied with Tf so far? Any personal opinion? Well at least its rare to see a 2nd hand Tf being sold in garage sale section, means all owner choose to keep them long enough. smile.gif

There is no USB port on the tablet itself, right? Only at the dock?

Battery life? Fair? Good? Or should be better? I mean, without dock.

Hope u all mind to share.. Thanks! smile.gif

Hi there. Yes there's polaris office which allows you to edit/create office documents but it cannot save to the newer docx, pptx format for instance..most 3rd party office applications cannot do this either. Also the formatting may be different, again this is similar to other 3rd party office apps - nothing you can do about it.

In terms of whether we are satisfied with the TF, I can say that pretty much most of us are satisfied, including myself. Its worth buying if you buy it with the dock. There's no USB port on the tablet - you are correct on this, only on the dock. IF you want just the tablet and want a usb port on it, you can look for Acer Iconia Tab A500 but mind you the screen for that tablet is a TFT while TF is an IPS panel like iPad 1 and iPad 2.

Battery life is pretty good, with the dock you can achieve about 16 hrs approximately. Without the dock I think about 7-8 hours probably? Depending on your usage of course.

no tablet can offer you full feature office document app at the moment, there will be some features that cannot work or alignment running out. that's the way it is. unless microsoft themselves offer to develop apps for the platform then no issues.
