What you mean around the house? Ethernet cable or tel line?

For Unifi, the tel line will be replaced by fiber. After the RG (router), use same Ethernet cable.

QUOTE(cannavaro @ Jun 30 2011, 03:44 AM)
meh you have not lurked in the unifi thread long enough.

let me try to walk you through some of the reasons
1. Wireless signal. The DIR615 is a mere 1.5dBi. The TL-WR841N/ND is 5dBi. Plus you can upgrade the antennas. The Asus N56U is also 5dBi (for 5GHz, 3.8dBi for 2.4GHz).
Reports of those who changed say - No more wireless drop outs, no more messing with the 20Mhz/40Mhz channel width to see which one is suitable for some devices.

2. The DIR615 can only handle x amount (sorry can't recall the figures) of connections at once. There were cases of the router locking up during heavy torrent sessions. There is also a minimal, brief lag with the IPTV when switching channels. Those who changed to the Mikrotik reported that this lag is gone.

3. Weak QOS engine.

4. No gigabit support. Not everyone needs this of course.

5. Shit support from TM (like you briefly said, 'as opposed to waiting for TM to send a replacement unit...').

And then there's the security issue that was discovered by rizvanrp during the earlier days... which prompted a lot of users to jump ship by either using the DIR615 as a stupid vlan bridge or replacing it completely. laugh.gif

BTW some batches of the DIR615 are shittier than the others, some issue with QC I reckon. At one time quite a few of these routers died just like that. I remember one user whose DIR615 had to be replaced a whopping 3 times. laugh.gif

For me... It's just the Wireless that matters... For my case, staying in condo, maybe due to tonnes of wifi surrounding, interference just happens and connection just drop with no reason... After connection drop, my SSID became "Invisible" then this this that that... Another thing is that signal strength fluctuates a lot. I usually use inside my room with the router right behind the wall, signal strength still fluctuates from FULL (5bars on win7) then drop to 4 and even worse, to 2. I don't understand why this happens as my old wireless G asus modem router at my hometown always give me full bar signal even though the router is placed downstair while i'm using upstair. Next, the router just love to hang... Staying with friends, 8 of them. ...*snip snip*
*
OOOoo...so the wireless transmission seems to be a major problem for the bundled router although some might reported about freeze cases and wifi interferences which usually occurs in dense high rise housing area...

1,927 secs or RM9.31 to finally change the wrongly entered registered email for unifi by the promoter (or somewhere in between them and TM)

No need call so hardly, use their Unifi Online Customer Services Portal https://occ.unifi.my
Under section "My Support" click "Create a new service enquiry"
Report it using this method should be better.

Same chip Ralink RT3052F SoC

TM-RND Router FCC ID: YB5-RGTMRNDGEN

TM's DIR-615 Gx FCC ID: KA2DIR615G1

Looking at those photos submitted to FCC really low quality, really no class at all  doh.gif

Although the RG-TMRND board design & materials used slightly different and it seem to suggest the antenna gain of 3dBi, couple with "unknown" firmware creator, I personally have no high hope on this device .....  sweat.gif

Come-on TM, is this the only thing you can do?  You guys seem never learn .... yawn.gif
I'm sure there are many manufacturers out there willing to produce better and more choices for consumers, rather than this unknown joker "TM" router.

It's really unnecessary to waste money by setting up RND trying to re-inventing the wheel, afterall router it's NOT TM's core business, and it can NEVER be, period.  shakehead.gif

I think this new Router more worse then before, it's just outlook stylish inside shit.
Afterall, TM is still monopoly. what we can do?
We do have a choice,
1st. Don't use Unifi?
2nd. Use Unifi with their stupid equipment?
3rd. Use Unifi but use your own equipment?
4th. Compliant a lot, and hope for they provide good router? (Impossible)

The UniFi download speed is the same regardless whether you are downloading from local server or non-local server?

It is same as you calling to their call center, they also create this ticket report to their technical department.
Why don't we skip calling them and by create our own report. After that they will call you to settle it.
If you call them, they make the same report also wait plus more days only call back you.

No, dependence on local or international and the server quality or server internet line on the other site.
Too many factor to consider, for example you download from Africa, what do you expect the speed?

They should give rebate/discount to users who use their own equipment instead of TM's..hehe.

After all if our router faulty, we won't ask them replace or support.

sorry, a question here... is it really the TP-Link W8960N modem router can be used to sub for the original TM modem + router setup?

or it is a better to use a tplink wireless router + TM original modem?

i got the whole black set of TM setup, the GUI is confusing n not really useful actually... cry.gif

The business model is launch and grab the market first then fix bugs later. No problem with that if customer service is up to par.

better to replace TM router completely. I am happy with the TP-Link W8960N, just follow klseet's guide and your life will be less stressful without the TM router heheh.
