I asked for the installer to put the CPE and router in my room...
If I were to watch the IPTV,
Can I;
-Buy a repeater, then put the repeater next to my tv (which is in the living room around 10m from my room with no walls) connect the IPTV box to my TV and to the repeater LAN port?
p/s: I tried pluggin the IPTV box to my monitor via HDMI to DVI cable (22" LCD 1680x1050) in my room, but it says, OUT OF RANGE
what torrent client u guys using? my utorrent doesn't seem like utilising the 5mbps =.=
i use uTorrent 2.2.1...at first, the usual 50-80kbps dw speed but after nearly an hour or so and reading from http://unifi.athena.my/router_config.html and some from here http://klseet.com/.... I'd port forwarded and did a couple of changes in terms of security and wireless setup...I managed to hit 500+kbps from torrent...

The stock router and modem that they gives, how do i restart my modem ar? or the only way is to switch it off and on?
i just login to 192.168.0.1 then use the reboot button on the bottom left
This might sound noobish and probably stupid, but I still wanna ask;
-Why do you guys decide to change the bundled with router (DIR-615)?? Because I really don't understand even after reading various version of this thread...I understand if the DIR-615 is dead and that you decide to get a new one as opposed to waiting for TM to send a replacement unit, but most replies I'd glance, there are some who swap their DIR-615 to TP-Link, Asus and even Mikrotik...
What are the benefits (technically) and what makes you wanna change the DIR-615? My guess is (and I know it is probably not accurate) that probably the wireless function may be a little bit weak..but isn't most reputable brands have similar if not same amount of power in terms of the transmitter to be in accordance with health and safety bla bla bla, set by FCC or whatnot...unlike those 2W China/Taiwan USB antenna or signal amplifiers (which is not accordance to most country law or regulation but I like them )..
I have been using Unifi since its free testing days (back in mid 2010) at the office (the DIR-615 is just behind my chair and have no problems whatsoever) and 5 days of using it at home....both my office and home are 5Mbps subscription and neither have been showing signs of the DIR-615 unable to provide me with 500kbps (or sometimes even more)...
can someone elaborate or provide me with a link on the real reason WHY, some of the guys here swap the DIR-615 with other Wireless Routers?
Is it speed? is it distribution of speed? is it range? is it temperature problem? is it power problem? is it the lack of antenna change? or just simple because it looks ugly and the ASUS U56 just looks astonishing??

meh you have not lurked in the unifi thread long enough.
let me try to walk you through some of the reasons 1. Wireless signal. The DIR615 is a mere 1.5dBi. The TL-WR841N/ND is 5dBi. Plus you can upgrade the antennas. The Asus N56U is also 5dBi (for 5GHz, 3.8dBi for 2.4GHz). Reports of those who changed say - No more wireless drop outs, no more messing with the 20Mhz/40Mhz channel width to see which one is suitable for some devices.
2. The DIR615 can only handle x amount (sorry can't recall the figures) of connections at once. There were cases of the router locking up during heavy torrent sessions. There is also a minimal, brief lag with the IPTV when switching channels. Those who changed to the Mikrotik reported that this lag is gone.
3. Weak QOS engine.
4. No gigabit support. Not everyone needs this of course.
5. Shit support from TM (like you briefly said, 'as opposed to waiting for TM to send a replacement unit...').
And then there's the security issue that was discovered by rizvanrp during the earlier days... which prompted a lot of users to jump ship by either using the DIR615 as a stupid vlan bridge or replacing it completely.
BTW some batches of the DIR615 are shittier than the others, some issue with QC I reckon. At one time quite a few of these routers died just like that. I remember one user whose DIR615 had to be replaced a whopping 3 times.

For me... It's just the Wireless that matters... For my case, staying in condo, maybe due to tonnes of wifi surrounding, interference just happens and connection just drop with no reason... After connection drop, my SSID became "Invisible" then this this that that... Another thing is that signal strength fluctuates a lot. I usually use inside my room with the router right behind the wall, signal strength still fluctuates from FULL (5bars on win7) then drop to 4 and even worse, to 2. I don't understand why this happens as my old wireless G asus modem router at my hometown always give me full bar signal even though the router is placed downstair while i'm using upstair. Next, the router just love to hang... Staying with friends, 8 of them. ...*snip snip*
OOOoo...so the wireless transmission seems to be a major problem for the bundled router although some might reported about freeze cases and wifi interferences which usually occurs in dense high rise housing area...

We are sorry, all our customer service representative are busy. Your call is important to us. Please hold. HOLD FOR FREAKING 15 MINUTES ALREADY IDIOT@!!!! stupid tm!!!
1,927 secs or RM9.31 to finally change the wrongly entered registered email for unifi by the promoter (or somewhere in between them and TM)

I also want to know as the usual guidance still fails...i can't host...although I checked many2 (like more than 20 times in 4 hours) times the router and the windows firewall, seems just it wont allow me to host...

more network knowledge u need.. capping is based on amount of bandwidth you use..as long as you reach the capping limit e.g 60GB..ur speed will be capped or throttled..
also, line speed is determined at hardware level i.e at the exchange level..not username..
so lets say my house only 5mb but my bros house is 20mb, if i log in using his account at my house, only 5mb???
Y after reset the TM router n I follow the manual then when connected only access to local not internet..wifi also same connected but without data. .btw just installed unifi 2day after reset my iptv working fine ..only internet problem...help2..
Check ur username and password at the PPPOE setup....
