Here normally what I do.

1) go into kodi, go to add on covenant and look for movie. Found it, than wait for available source. Than choose the HD 1080p. But most of the time will drop to 720 or lower. Even that, it will buffering and wait......

2) that frustrated me. So use my iPad, go into my nas, look for the same movie and download. While kodi still play and buffer. Once the download is complete, off the HImedia, and play the old player stream from the nas.

3) the old player is mede8er med1000x3d network to nas. It have internal hdd. 99.9% is run on network.

3) HImedia have another 2 apps which is HD player and hdmovie (if not mistaken). It is for android phone. It running in buffer too. Which the hdmovie setup time, did pop up a window said, this devise not optimise for this apps. Which I don't care and try on it. So I guess it is not the kodi problem. But optimise the HImedia.

Hmm.... sorry 2 say... u have not spent eunf time n effort on the box.

Covenenant addon in kodi is dead or half dead.
Read kodi thread, try other addons others have mentioned.
And try QUASAR addon... read, watch utube videos on how to.
Quasar is the only truly fabulous kodi addon, imo... all movies n tv shows, 1080p, 4k even, dd5.1, dd+5.1 with yr box,.
Assuming firmware 2.0.5, 2.0.6 and kodi 17.6.
And if u dislike kodi, u can always use other apps.
There is terrarium, freeflix, showbox, etc... dozens of them, good hd stuff.
Not to mention great livetv apps, eng or chinese or french or german, in hd.
Of course, u need to read to find these apps n install them.
I posted many of these, but few people bother to read n try, i know.
Yr Hdmovie app is likely out of date, cant use, need new version... or try other apps.
One needs to understand these apps n kodi addons are done voluntarily, some owners living on ads.
If owner does not maintain well, it dies.
Or in the case of kodi addons, owners get legal letters from authorities... google "kodi news", u read them.

Key is to keep up, keep finding new and working apps... thats how free android apps work.
Yr speed is not great but acceptable, can get quite a lot.
Higher speed gets u more, more in hd.
But the requisite is u yrself must learn how to get them, takes some work.
There is a tremendous amount of good free stuff in the wires, just need to know how to catch them.
Right now i am watching a live sports channel, waiting for 11pm epl matches.

Above is about online streaming.
The other part is local playback where u play files in hdd with usb port.
Your box is among the best for that purpose, has an excellent native player.
Capable of almost all formats... incl 4k full bluray menu.... and... dd, dts, ddtruehd dtshdma, dtsx, ddatmos for audio.
Of course, u first need to get those files which can run to to 90gb each.

1) I don't have much experience on kodi and didn't go in more deep on it after I try to organize my media in it. And while try to streaming my media, it buffering or jerking a lot. It is only 1080p source. I believe probably need some tweaking on the player to solve it.

Since I have another player running without problem on the media, I never pursuit further the problem on kodi. UI is wan of it that I don't like. ( initial setup) I compare with my old player.

2) about add on kodi, yes, movie list are complete and long. But quality is not 1080p but 720 and below. Searching for source and available is not always have. Limited. And most pain in the ass is buffering. I can download the whole HD movie in 30min and the movie still buffering in 20min in kodi. So switch off the HImedia and watch the download movie is better. I thought is the kodi problem. But confirm with 2 apps. Same problem.

3) I m using maxis 15 or 20mb broadband with gigabit network. Streaming speed is confirm no problem on broadband and network.

4) which leave me not much usage on the box currently. Only fire up for YouTube. For better experience on movie, use my old player. That also leave me to wonder what others people use on the box. And why I have to get an expensive box with such limited usage.

5) I don't have anybody to assist but here and online how to setup, add on, etc. Probably I need to read more on kodi.

TLDR: Master Kodi and you won't have to use any other app on your android box. Though I'll also admit that Kodi isn't for everyone and there are more simple to us apps out there.. nod.gif

Understandable.. We were all noobs once.. I too had to learn the ropes myself as do millions out there.. Kodi is a powerful software on its own and is highly customizable. There are skins that change the layout, then more mods & options for said skins too. Truly, you can craft & setup a Kodi UI that's 100% unique to you alone in the world. As for buffering when streaming content. That isn't Kodi's fault.. It's the fault of whatever addon being used. Kodi is a shell (like Mac/Windows OS) does NOT ship or support illegal addons. So yeah, in order to gain more from Kodi, you definitely need to read up more on Kodi. Can't be helped. smile.gif

I use the default media player on my q10 instead of Kodi... cause i like the interface better.

I didnt find any problem with the default player and compare it to kodi, I didnt find any advantage with kodi either, so I just stick to the default player.

local playback:
the default native player is what u pay for, it is much better than any other player - great engine, autoframe switch, full 4k bluray menu, etc.
u will not find the same most other players.
but some people like the library features of kodi.
to get kodi library features yet use native player during actual playback, u activate the WRAPPER - that's what it is for.
still, i don't use it... like u, i prefer it simple, fast and clean - use native player direct.

kodi online streams
WRAPPER will NOT work.
default kodi player will give dd5.1, dd+5.1, no dts, no dsthdma, no ddtruehd.
set transcoding on, dts/dtshdma streams will be transcoded to dd5.1.
maybe next firmware will improve on this.
firmware 2.0.7 is said to be available by mid feb, according to futeko.com.

i hv not tried vpn on kodi too much.
but i remember trying free VPN's - they do NOT work.
u probably need some better paid ones like IPvanish.

actually, i use only quasar addon with kodi - this is the best thing i find in kodi.
the other addons - too troublesome to keep up, don't bother anymore.
can get better and simpler standalone apps - vod or live tv.

For now and until Malaysian ISPs start issuing cease and desist letters for ehem p2p connections, there's really no need for a VPN connection.

Since have another player, I not in a hurry to solve the problem. Try to find every setting in the player, but can't find it.

This is 1 of the problem I m facing now. The motion jerking make me motion sickness. puke.gif

This is a bluray source m2ts.

Play from Kodi. 17.04 (HiMedia)

Play from Media center (HiMedia)

Play from another player

Since another player is playing find, so i suspect the problem content around the player side. Thinking a list to solve it.

This is my network speed file transfer from NAS to PC. Speed should be ok kua ? hmm.gif I not sure what is you guys average speed that is good enough for streaming.

user posted image

Than the broadband speed. 20mb. If this speed can run youtube HD with no problem... What speed this box require ?

The player is not me only using. Which I had more patient to learn. But the rest of the family. Specially lady which is retard about tech. The lady expecting me to kaotim everything for them.

you should have mentioned NAS in the first place; if u do not, it is assumed u playback direct with USB port - that is easy.

i do not know much about NAS as i do not have one... if u want expert comments, u should describe what NAS u have, what router, cables, etc.

hopefully some NAS user(s) can help u.

i remember reading about a case where the kind of issues u hv was caused by the NAS app/player, not the himedia box.

20mbps may be too low somehow...

but if it works with some other box, likely yr NAS was customized to work with the box...??

still, i can share with u this:

.. that video u showed... i have the 41gb bdmv... it works flawlessly from my pc to q10pro via wifi samba (media center, LAN option).. bit rate is 32.78mbps.
.. uhd4k hdr10 90gb bdmv also work well just the same... dtshdma, ddtruehd audio too.
.. using unifi 100mbps, gigabit router, 5ghz.
.. those files FAILED to stream properly with my old 50mbps 2.4ghz.

Lastly, i do not know if there is any diff between your q5pro and my q10pro when it comes to networking issues incl nas and samba.

444 is not about "deep color", it is about chroma sampling.

deep color is defined by 8 bit, 10 bit, 12 bit.

chroma sampling... 444 practically does not give better video becos of current industry practice; 420 is just as good for most commercial videos.

QUOTE
Well, it is nothing to do with Himedia, it is industry standard , any other media box will behave the same.
4:4:4 Color Space support 10 bit at 23,24,25 FPS
4:2:0  Color space support 10 bit  at 50,60 FPS
IN your case you have to switch to 4:4:4  colorspace in order to get 10 bit Color at 23.9 FPS.
There is NO  OTHER OPTION  and never will be.

google to read up the subjects if really interested.

The LG TV deep color support only Ycbcr 444 at 8bit for 2160p@60Hz. The same for chroma 422. 10bit & 12bit is only for 420. This is very common in the industry.

Most if not all videos/movies are with Ycbcr 420 except a few at 422 10bit. Btw, Himedia doesn't support the 422 10bit similar to the TV.

Any one try the latest firmware 2.0.7? Installed yesterday, now support ASS type subtitles.
Fixed some the 4K HDR blu ray menu titles which previous firmware can't boot up.

I dun notice any change! biggrin.gif

Just minor fixes, i guess.

Well, all is good for me, as before.

Q10pro is coming up 2 years old.

I would think a successor is coming... mid year maybe...?
