I recently bought a HiMedia Q5 Pro. I have my video on my NAS, a 720p movie, DTS & 5.1. When I play the movie via Kodi, it lag and lots of frame are droping.

Using my HiMedia 600A to play the movie from my NAS, dont have this problem?

Can anyone know whats is wrong, any optimisation for the Q5 or Kodi?

Check your modem/router speed.

And your NAS streaming speed.

Normally TS file are big.

MKV is just a "container"... It can very well carry the same TS file FYI....

Understand.

But what I want is smaller size with quality.

q10pro/q5pro...

if u had kodi 17.4, it would hv auto updated to 17.5 by now.

there are reports of many users of various devices experience kodi crashing after this update.

if u have this problem, u need to install 17.5.1:

http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/android/arm/

my update was fine, no problem, 17.5 working fine as before.

Sorry I just got my Q5 and new to all this stuff.

Is Kodi update using google play store ? Able to choose which firmware to update ?

u can check what version it is now when u open it up, see if it shows 17.4 or 17.5.

or check at settings-apps, look at the info.

if default setting, it should hv already auto updated to 17.5.

this is auto done when playstore version gets updated.

play it, see it ok; if it crashes, u will need to manually install 17.5.1.
what box u used before? familiar with android, any app?

if not mistaken, u bought a used unit from another user who bought from a seller who can help u with details.

check it up!

Thanks.

It is a Kodi ver 16.X. Default probably ?

I m a bit confuse with your kodi update which more like a PC type way of update.

I m new to android box and apps. Never touch before.

Still using media player which is user friendly and great UI. But the youtube and some apps is dead already. Can't update anymore.

Yup, brought the used unit from user here. I do get help from him, read from site and ask question here to get more detail of what I can do with the Q5.

Kodi 16.x... this is one generation old, Jarvis.

You should erase it totally, i.e. uninstall.

Then install new Kodi 17.5 Krypton - get from playstore.

But that will give u a shell only, u need to build it up bit by bit or copy n paste a full configuration from somewhere.

It is hard for me to explain if u r a total newbie.

I strongly suggest u contact the original seller to help u revamp and update all the apps, maybe even firmware.

At least get a head start.

The media player functions, u hv no problem.

The android apps, file management and connectivity parts will take some time, learning, trials to get a good handle on.

When u become seasoned user, u can DIY everything all the way.

Thanks. You already teach me something here.

I prefer to learn the basic from the net till certain level before start to ask somebody help. At least I can understand some jargon explain.

Been using Q5 for many months. What you guys normally use for ?

I found it have limited usage. (Maybe me only).

99% only use for YouTube. Others,
1) apps like movie apps doesn't optimize for it and run buffering.
2) kodi, most of the movie is low quality. Buffering. No source.
3) setup kodi use on server media, not smooth, poor UI, poor organize .

Sorry to say but all above sounds like user error. I can confirm that I and couple others definitely experience the exact opposite of all the issues reported. What you need to do is actually first understand what Kodi as a software is and it's vast capabilities. Kodi... Poor UI?? Nah, no other media center or player even comes close to its UI and customization options. While you may benefit from being spoonfed exactly how to go about it, I strongly suggest you look up the Kodi dedicated thread and start learning from page one. Kodi may not be the best on HiMedia devices, but it's usable. Thank me later.  smile.gif

if u will answer my questions below, i will comment more, give u some tips and directions:

.. what broadband speed r u on?
.. what did u wanted to do with the box when u bought it?
.. do u hv anyone who can assist u about such android boxes and apps?
.. have you been reading the numerous threads on online apps, kodi, etc.?

1) I don't have much experience on kodi and didn't go in more deep on it after I try to organize my media in it. And while try to streaming my media, it buffering or jerking a lot. It is only 1080p source. I believe probably need some tweaking on the player to solve it.

Since I have another player running without problem on the media, I never pursuit further the problem on kodi. UI is wan of it that I don't like. ( initial setup) I compare with my old player.

2) about add on kodi, yes, movie list are complete and long. But quality is not 1080p but 720 and below. Searching for source and available is not always have. Limited. And most pain in the ass is buffering. I can download the whole HD movie in 30min and the movie still buffering in 20min in kodi. So switch off the HImedia and watch the download movie is better. I thought is the kodi problem. But confirm with 2 apps. Same problem.

3) I m using maxis 15 or 20mb broadband with gigabit network. Streaming speed is confirm no problem on broadband and network.

4) which leave me not much usage on the box currently. Only fire up for YouTube. For better experience on movie, use my old player. That also leave me to wonder what others people use on the box. And why I have to get an expensive box with such limited usage.

5) I don't have anybody to assist but here and online how to setup, add on, etc. Probably I need to read more on kodi.

i am interested in the bolded part:

And most pain in the ass is buffering. I can download the whole HD movie in 30min and the movie still buffering in 20min in kodi. So switch off the HImedia and watch the download movie is better. I thought is the kodi problem. But confirm with 2 apps.

can u clarify.. buffering with kodi or with other apps? "2 apps"... which other app?
"download in 30min... still buffering in kodi..." - u mean u download in kodi and it buffers when u play in kodi?
or u meanu can download separate in 30min, then playaback... while it takes forever for same video to play online in kodi?
what addon u use for movies?
what player or app do u use when u playback hdd with usb drive?

i need to know what u r doing right n wrong b4 i can help u.
and relax, this "buffering" thing in kodi... i think it's some setting u havent got it right.
*
Here normally what I do.

1) go into kodi, go to add on covenant and look for movie. Found it, than wait for available source. Than choose the HD 1080p. But most of the time will drop to 720 or lower. Even that, it will buffering and wait......

2) that frustrated me. So use my iPad, go into my nas, look for the same movie and download. While kodi still play and buffer. Once the download is complete, off the HImedia, and play the old player stream from the nas.

3) the old player is mede8er med1000x3d network to nas. It have internal hdd. 99.9% is run on network.

3) HImedia have another 2 apps which is HD player and hdmovie (if not mistaken). It is for android phone. It running in buffer too. Which the hdmovie setup time, did pop up a window said, this devise not optimise for this apps. Which I don't care and try on it. So I guess it is not the kodi problem. But optimise the HImedia.

Since have another player, I not in a hurry to solve the problem. Try to find every setting in the player, but can't find it.

This is 1 of the problem I m facing now. The motion jerking make me motion sickness. puke.gif

This is a bluray source m2ts.

Play from Kodi. 17.04 (HiMedia)

Play from Media center (HiMedia)

Play from another player

Since another player is playing find, so i suspect the problem content around the player side. Thinking a list to solve it.

This is my network speed file transfer from NAS to PC. Speed should be ok kua ? hmm.gif I not sure what is you guys average speed that is good enough for streaming.

Than the broadband speed. 20mb. If this speed can run youtube HD with no problem... What speed this box require ?

TLDR: Master Kodi and you won't have to use any other app on your android box. Though I'll also admit that Kodi isn't for everyone and there are more simple to us apps out there..  nod.gif
Understandable.. We were all noobs once.. I too had to learn the ropes myself as do millions out there.. Kodi is a powerful software on its own and is highly customizable. There are skins that change the layout, then more mods & options for said skins too. Truly, you can craft & setup a Kodi UI that's 100% unique to you alone in the world. As for buffering when streaming content. That isn't Kodi's fault.. It's the fault of whatever addon being used. Kodi is a shell (like Mac/Windows OS) does NOT ship or support illegal addons. So yeah, in order to gain more from Kodi, you definitely need to read up more on Kodi. Can't be helped. smile.gif

Actually I just want a straight forward UI only. Simple to manage my library and not complicated UI.

The player is not me only using. Which I had more patient to learn. But the rest of the family. Specially lady which is retard about tech. The lady expecting me to kaotim everything for them.
