Hi Guy, I just got HD600AII. Bought it from China. Anyone here owns it?

The problem now is I am trying to enter App Store from Application Menu, but it seems like I can enter it.

Do you have the same problem? Do I need to update the DIY firmware for better use in Malaysia?

Besides that, can anyone provide step by step way to backup then update the firm ware?

Thank you for helping.
*
i do not know if this is a higher or lower model than the q5ii which is a popular model here now.

but from yr description, i guess the firmware is incorrect as it is to be used in china.

you will need to find the right one and reinstall.

well, that's why buying local with local support/warranty makes sense, most of the time...

Anyone installed Astro On The Go on Q5II yet?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...com.astro.astro

i seriously doubt anyone will pay for astro on an androidtv box.

with q5ii, u already get some of the channels astro offer, foc!

ok, not the most popular hd ones but the usual news, cartoons, sports channels available from various addons/sites.

moreover, so much to watch with just hitv and xbmc, u dun need more!! biggrin.gif

Google play just released new version on January 2, 2014

Can you try this one instead

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...com.astro.astro

Astro screenshot few  on tablet seems ok to me

i just tried astroonthego on q5ii and ipadmini. i have astro beyond.

easy to install, just register at astro, go to app store, the app is there.

for both q5ii and ipad, all come out sd, incl supposedly hd channels. hd ones come out a bit better but is not hd. tablet small, so ok.

fairly smooth, not much lagging, no crashing.

not everything u subscribe is available for streaming, only selected ones.

good news is for some tv series, the old episodes are there for u to watch. same with some other shows.

this onthego is a fairly useful feature, but i won't be keeping astro for long.

Hi all,

I just got my HiMedia and trying to get it run as per my preferences.
Have a quick question tho, what kind of apps you guys use to play slideshow of your pictures?
I have downloaded a dozens of slideshow apps and none of them able to detect my pictures stored in sda1. oso, it doesnt have option to select which folder to scan for picture.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks
*
no need to dwnload any app for that.

go to myapps-himedia center (preinstalled) and select your drive, photos or videos or music...
combination of enter and menu on remote will get those going in any fashion u want.

or use myapps-file manager to do that, almost the same.

did some googling abt this and some say its related with twitter app but i dont have that app installed

anyone here having same problem? my model is himedia q5 2..

oso, any custom firmware to share..heh
*
the YouTube thingy is a well known problem. but u can easily get utube elsewhere... either use the browser or find it in xbmc. no sweat.

or wait for next official firmware 1.0.5 which is said to have corrected the utube problem. there seems to be a version u can get from baidu or elsewhere but I dare not try, i will wait. can check if available under settings, upgrade. at this time, nothing.....

For upgrade to 1.0.5, can refer to here:

The latest version is now 1.0.6, which you can upgrade using the same method.

thanks for link.

i actually had that from another user who got it successfully.

but i don't know why i can't, stuck at 0, 1, 2, 5% forever...

one strange thing i observe... from the 2 links, it looks like the same. so, for the same model, the file name shud b the same, but no... they come out, incomplete as:

BaiduYunGuanjia_4.5.0.exe.yyilc59
BaiduYunGuanjia_4.5.0.exe.6o2xffo

in fact, i think each time you dwnld supposedly the same file, a diff file name comes out. strange...

also very curious why is it a baidu thing? why doesn't himedia have it in their website? still alpha or beta, not official?

i really don't want to install it only to find all kinds of errors!

anyone, user or seller, if u r around, kindly address this issue. tq.

The links are official, and the original announcements and discussions were made here:
http://bbs.himedia.cn/forum.php

Their website is not well maintained. The 1.0.3 link in their website was also posted after people made a lot of noise in the forum about why the download was announced in the forum but nothing in their website.

In the same forum, you can also find solution about rooting the box, installing back the Google Playstore which was removed from the latest firmware, and many other tips and tricks.

seems the reason i couldn't dwnld 1.0.5 was because 1.0.6 was about to come out!

this evening, a prompt came up on my q5ii, to update. took about 30 min, yep, 1.0.6 dated 6 mar.

what do i think of it? mixed...

good news:
.. youtube app is in there, it works
.. new launcher contains live tv (chinese channels), hitv (same as old), mango tv, media center, apps
.. live tv is like the old one, but now with many of them incl cctv, provincial stations in hd
.. mangotv is new, has a lot of stuff but not all links work, some lag bad. looks to me mangotv is a new consolidated chinese video app drawing on many sites
.. comes with separate qiyi-pps app

bad news:
.. it wipes out everything - all settings, ip, dns, whatever apps you install via apk's, e.g. cloudtv, xbmc
.. himedia browser gone, no more
.. no playstore, no histore (reinstalled old apps, don't work anymore)
.. xbmc gotham beta does not work on this firmware too

it's going to cause users a lot of frustration esp those who have little clue how to reinstall some apps. ohmy.gif

fortunate for me, i kept on usb drive, a backup for browser, cloudtv, reinstalled. for xbmc, need to add sources, get addons, settings, advancesettings.xml all over again. sad.gif

first glance, i m not sure if good value added with this 1.0.6. if no significant benefit, i hope they don't change firmware too often since it's time consuming to reinstall everything.

anyone having updated to 1.0.6, kindly share experience...

From 1.0.5 to 1.0.6 is just a patch to the existing, and won't wipe out anything.

my non-emmc q5ii was on 1.0.4.
the settings-update option did not offer 1.0.5, i checked several times before.
then, 1.0.6 prompt came up, updated.
in the above case, it wiped out everything.
not that i enjoy reinstalling all over again!
but i remember from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 using settings-update, everything remained intact.
so, it is possible the wipeout was due to jump from 4 to 6.

anyway, let's see what others experience...

Bro, you have installed the China firmware which do not have Google Play. There is English firmware 1.0.5 available, please get it from the seller you bought. Himedia only given English firmware to authorized reseller in oversea. The English firmware come with GooglePlay, HiBrowser, MangoTV, HiStore and etc.

after a couple more days...

.. mangotv has a good offer. the videos are generally good, hd or sd. has a hongkong/cantonese section. thing is whether u can stream them nicely with yr box/broadband. i get some, can't get some.
.. livetv for chinese channels have better video, many in hd, all in correct aspect ratio; cctv5 is in hd, sports channel - hope this will carry worldcup 2014 live!

as mentioned by nicety, current 1.0.6 is a china version, not all suitable here. best to wait for coming 1.0.6 eng version for use here.

I am looking for a himedia tvbox. I have very 8MBPS fibre optics from time.com, very fast and stable. Now my question is : can I watch china tv at HD (at least 720 or 1080) ? Hope anyone can answer my question before I can invest in a unit of Himedia !
*
there is no guarantee for smooth streaming china or uk or usa hd, be it himedia or lomedia or xyzbox, even with 20mbps. becos many factors involved.

my exp, i say himedia free china tv streaming is fair.

sd stuff, good, usually good enough. hd... depends which one u access. sometimes good, sometimes bad.

also, the same tv station can be good at one time and crap at another.

lower yr expectations vis-a-vis the price, u will be pleased.

one thing... u can try paid iptv sites, shud work better, i believe.

You mentioned paid IPTV sites, can give some examples such as the links to those websites for me to subscribe (must have china tv programs), thanks in advance !!!

i only know cloudtv, netflix and huluplus. chinese ones, think there r a few too. i have not used any of them.

off and on, u'll read some seller posting them for sale, some offer free trials. u'll have to lcoate the threads/posts, pm them.

or maybe start a new thread, invite them to pm you!

do check thoroughly... my view on this new exploding world of iptv via all kinds of boxes is that technology is changing very fast, many things get obsolete within a couple of years. so, reliable support and updates for hardware-firmwares-apps is critical. if not u spend the money only to find it gathering dust very quickly...

So anyone successfully install XBMC on Q5ii yet?
*

current model is q5ii emmc. latest firmware is 1.0.6 emmc eng.
that firmware comes with xbmc 12.2 and a customised advancedsettings.xml.
this way, it works good up to 720 dts5.1, most 1080 will jerk/lag, unwatchable.
xbmc 12.2 is not as good as 12.3, so i applied that xml to 12.3 - same result.
applied the same xml to q5ii non-emmc xbmc 12.3, same result.
conclusion - this machine can play xbmc 12.3 up to 720, no problem.
1080 - tak pakai.

QUOTE(macguyver @ Apr 11 2014, 11:08 AM)
Himedia Q5II good?
*
good if yr watch both chinese and english video - live tv and video on demand.
tonnes of chinese stuff to watch - live tv, tv series. movies, hd, sd... not all work smoothly but good enough.
couldtv, netflix, huluplus work fine, no problem.
english stuff in xbmc already commented above.
so, if yr taste is chinese-english mixed, good.
if u only want certain english stuff in highest hd, go check out something else.

the machine can handle dtshdma, bdmv/iso/m2ts, flac, 3d files playback via usb - good.

I just got my Q3 II. So far Mediacenter can play all the files i have in from a shared drive via the network except multiple M2TS files within a BDMV folders. When you launch the BDMV the folder it will just play one file and stops. When you click on the Chapters, you can't see the other files in there. You can see the rest of the files from Playlist but it will play one and then stop. I find this very weird as it doesn't seem to play every M2TS file in the folder by itself or allow navigation between the play with FWD or RWD. Anyone facing the same issue? Is there something i'm missing or it's firmware issue. I'm using 1.05 firmware version.
*
i know exactly wat u r talking about...

the media player is probably too simple. can't go deeper into the folders embedded inside.

no difference if u use file manager. no difference with 1.0.6 firmware.

the only way to go about it is u cut all the m2ts files and paste onto the main folder. then when u play the main folder it will read properly, one by one.

i have seen same problem with another media player, but in that player, it offers a browse option to go deeper into the folders, bdmv->stream where it will play correctly.

I have this is issue of some cracking sound after playing the movies for more than 20 minutes. In order to stop this annoying sound, I would have to press on the return button to go back to the main screen and then re-play it again, then sound will goes away. When I play the same movie in another media player, I do not have this problem. What is the setting that I need to ensure this kind of schedule cranking sound will disappear? Many thanks in advance.

r u using media center or file manager or xbmc to play that?

thanks, it was good for me to read it as it is consistent with all that I encountered.

that forum captures the problem of himedia streaming xbmc 720-1080 content incl frustrations and solutions, discussions on rooting, advancedsettings.xml, a himedia customised version xbmc 12.2 hiplayer.apk, non-emmc vs emmc model and firmware up to 1.0.4. unfortunately, there isn't any post on latest firmware 1.0.6. would be good if there are new posts in that forum for us to learn something from.

after some tests, i can reconfirm that the customised xbmc 12.2 will play 1080 aac2.0/dd5.1/dts5.1 smoothly on 1.0.6. however, this 12.2 version is unable to play some good addons, e.g. kissanime and buzzy sports in mashup, so i had reverted to 12.3 but applied the customised 12.2 advancedsettings.xml that came with the 1.0.6 firmware - this worked well for 720 but not 1080. while 720 suffices for the most part in xbmc, it will be great if next firmware 1.0.7 will come with a customised xbmc 12.3 or gotham that will handle 1080 smoothly.
