just to check with u...

2.0.7 5.1 audio passthrough in standard Kodi / SPMC. Improved network speed. Includes patch for BD-ISO full menu support in HiMediaplayer. Updated Kodi with Estuary theme. Updated UI theme. See Softpedia forum post for more info + changelog. ONLY FOR INSTALL OVER FIRMWARE 2.0.4 / 2.0.5 / 2.0.6 / 2.0.7.

.. with cfw, kodi 17.6 can only do 5.1, i.e. aac5.1?
ofw can do dd/dd+5.1 for the relevant streams.

.. "install over 2.04..." = install over cfw 2.0.4 or ofw 2.0.4 or either?

I am not an expert, so I am not sure if I can be of any help

For 5.1 audio, while I have a 5.1 home theatre, I position all the speakers in front of me due to limited space, hence hard to discern the position of where the sound is coming from. Unless you can tell me which settings to check, then I can help to do so tonight smile.gif

For installation, I played it safe, I was on official firmware 2.0.6 (upgrading through the recommended recovery method from 1.0.3 all the way up), then I did an incremental update to official 2.0.7, finally recovery update to custom 2.0.7. Again, I am by no mean an expert, I do not want to give any wrong advice that will brick your box, so I can only share my personal experience here and how it worked out for me smile.gif

Dun worry, i wun brick my box so easily. biggrin.gif

I had always wanted to try that cfw (customized firmware).
yr exp promoted me to do so.
Moreover, i was on the verge of reinstalling ofw (official firmware) 207.

Tested cfw 207.
Compared to ofw 207:
.. save some storage since some mandatory apps removed.
.. yes, astrogo works.
.. bluray patch built in... full bd menu, imprex settings, frame rate adaptation work fine.

.. default, wrapper player set on in kodi.
.. local playback with kodi goes straight to native player.
.. online streams... no good... aac2.0, 5.1 only, can't do dd/dd+ 5.1 like ofw.

So... get something, lose something.
For those who dun care about kodi streams audio passthru but want astrogo, use cfw.
Me, i watch a lot of vod tv series with good audio with kodi quasar... so, went back to ofw 207.
Will see if futeko guys will come up with some new fix.
Good experiment for me.

About astrogo, i can see why u saw some channels as hd.
On this box, some channels come out slightly better than my other device.
While info bars, logos look sharp, the actual video is not good enough.
Like someone suspected, "hd but low bit rate".
They are, to my eyes, 480p at best.

Thanks for sharing. I never really realised about the DD/DD+ 5.1 due to my speakers placement, so I am not super particular about it smile.gif
In any case, I think the author has done an excellent job with this custom firmware smile.gif

u can see dd or dd+ come up on yr AVR display panel if that is the case.

anyway, like i said, audio may not be critical to some users.

Mine is just a cheap HTiB, the display is a single line display that just shows D.IN (Digital In) without any other information
So yeah, I think I can live with CFW in the absence of good home theatre system smile.gif

With such HT systems, you can still check what it's outputting. Provided connected TV is compatible, supports the surround formats and you are connected via HDMI-ARC & CEC.. Once HD audio is playing, pull up the TV's menu and check it's audio source info.. It should show for example, PCM or Dolby Digital or DTS....etc

Bro cyew86,

I already tried the cfw207 on my q5 pro yesterday nite. Everything works fine however notice the storage become very less only have 4.07gb in total (Used 1.3 gb, Available 2.7 gb). Check on kodi got one drive with almost 1 gb empty but not accessible/available. Are you having the same storage size as well?

Do you see it in the "More" Setting page? Or the Device Info page?
My Device Info is showing 8GB with 2.X GB free space (normal given the OS would have taken up about 4GB space, about 1GB for apps), while the "More" Setting page shows 4GB storage as what you have said, but it has always been the same even when I was on OFW.

The 4GB is from the "More" Setting page. No idea where is the device info page. LOL...

Since you mentioned even on OFW had been same, should be normal... Didn't check before changing to CFW.

This allows for 4K UHD streams but will not send the HDR stream to ur display. It's a limitation of the Himedia. The best bet for 4K HDR YouTube is to use the built in app on ur display.

Buy new player.
Check adaptor... i think himedia use same adaptor for all boxes.
Test new adaptor on old box.
If good, buy one new adaptor.
Then, u hv 2 boxes! biggrin.gif

I managed to fix the problem with a bit of luck. I took to the PC repair shop and paid the bangladeshi repair guy to replace the heatsink compound.

Took home.and tried, after a while it hang with green screen again. Tried few times still the same.

At that point I gave up and ordered the Himedia Q10 pro from Nicety (should be arriving next 2 days).

Yesterday, before I disposed it in the thrash, I decided to take it apart and examine the heatsink compound and noticed it was kind of dilute. So I went out bought my own Cooler Master compound and applied it and I got a pleasant surprise, it was fully functioning. Finally watched a full movie and tested a few 3D iso, so far everything ok.

Luckily didn't throw away. Now I got extra 3d player, 😁

that's nice, well done! rclxms.gif

i will check this bit if it ever comes to that.

off topic...but right now, i am looking for ways to save an ext powered 3.5" HDD.

seems this "sata bridge card" is a common source of failure, the rest is probably in good shape.

any idea where i can find this part or such repair centers?

Can't you remove the drive and insert in another external drive enclosure , see it it's the drive problem or something else?

This is a wd sealed ext powered hdd

Will try to pry it open and take a look.

Just read that wd ones... the sata bridge card is integrated with the disc controller, not like other brands that separate the two.

Not optimistic i can fix it... will see.

....
Update

Pried open, put drive in q10pro, good.

Can use as spare or backup.

As suspected, must be failure of the sata bridge card.

Will check around, see if i can buy this spare part.

Why my q10 pro sometimes dun shut down?
tv screen become black, but the red light dun come on, still showing the clock. Have to unplug or switch off power.

q10 pro display screen - how to change display to show play time or other info? Other then time/clock, turn on or turn off?

Sometimes it takes a while longer to shut down... give it a little time.

If still same, it may mean bad firmware installation or some background apps hung.

Or some other connection interfering... describe yr connections... tv, avr, hdmi or optical, using arc...?

How long does it need? I think something hung.

player -> avr - > tv
sometimes avr is in standby, so it bypass/straight thru
