I am not an expert, so I am not sure if I can be of any help
For 5.1 audio, while I have a 5.1 home theatre, I position all the speakers in front of me due to limited space, hence hard to discern the position of where the sound is coming from. Unless you can tell me which settings to check, then I can help to do so tonight

For installation, I played it safe, I was on official firmware 2.0.6 (upgrading through the recommended recovery method from 1.0.3 all the way up), then I did an incremental update to official 2.0.7, finally recovery update to custom 2.0.7. Again, I am by no mean an expert, I do not want to give any wrong advice that will brick your box, so I can only share my personal experience here and how it worked out for me

Dun worry, i wun brick my box so easily.
I had always wanted to try that cfw (customized firmware).
yr exp promoted me to do so.
Moreover, i was on the verge of reinstalling ofw (official firmware) 207.
Tested cfw 207.
Compared to ofw 207:
.. save some storage since some mandatory apps removed.
.. yes, astrogo works.
.. bluray patch built in... full bd menu, imprex settings, frame rate adaptation work fine.
.. default, wrapper player set on in kodi.
.. local playback with kodi goes straight to native player.
.. online streams... no good... aac2.0, 5.1 only, can't do dd/dd+ 5.1 like ofw.
So... get something, lose something.
For those who dun care about kodi streams audio passthru but want astrogo, use cfw.
Me, i watch a lot of vod tv series with good audio with kodi quasar... so, went back to ofw 207.
Will see if futeko guys will come up with some new fix.
Good experiment for me.
About astrogo, i can see why u saw some channels as hd.
On this box, some channels come out slightly better than my other device.
While info bars, logos look sharp, the actual video is not good enough.
Like someone suspected, "hd but low bit rate".
They are, to my eyes, 480p at best.
