QUOTE(cchean @ Aug 6 2015, 09:26 PM) Hmmm...but when I read the packaging for Asus, it claims that 5ghz is 3 times the speed of 2.4ghz...strange That's probably theoretical speed increase mainly due to the much less interference within the 5GHz spectrum. Electronics like Bluetooth and other wireless peripherals aren’t going to bother you in the 5GHz spectrum so there’s less interference. Microwaves don’t operate up here (not even newer ones), so that source of noise is eliminated, too. However, do remember that the primary difference between the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz wireless frequencies is range as the 2.4GHz frequency is able to reach farther than the 5GHz frequency. This is a result of the basic characteristics that waves attenuate much faster at higher frequencies. So if you are more concerned with the coverage, you should select 2.4GHz rather than 5GHz.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Aug 15 2015, 09:39 AM) new himedia model: [WTS] HIMEDIA H8 Octa Core 4K UHD Android TV Box, New arrival Rockchip 3368 64-bit ARM A53 (Media Player) https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=3677149&hl=Interesting specs, however still lacking USB 3.0, Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac WiFi. Wonder what NAND memory It's using (eMMC 5.0 or 5.1/UFS)? I'm throwing my money at the screen and yet no manufacturer wants to create and support that box that completely rules other boxes.. #trolling_maybe?

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Aug 16 2015, 11:46 AM) "one box to rule them all? that'll be the day! right now, i am quite happy with what i have. more so when you go vip10->unifi30. It's the same thing with smartphones, tablets, TVs, etc. Even the most expensive or highest specs model, they will always find a way to leave out one important feature.. I know it's a business strategy to keep sales continuous. I'm happy with my box and setup now too. Been thinking of taking the upgrade from VIP10 to Unifi30, same price and all but there was some talk around the forum earlier that we should hold off till after September, something better rumored to launch then. If by November, nothing... I'll go for it.. Hoping they'll at least up the upload speed from 5Mbps to at least 20Mbps... Wishful thinking. Edit: Seems like there's some truth to the rumor earlier... TM To Unveil “All New” UniFi This Week: Most Likely To Be Faster And More. Hoping for wider coverage and significantly much cheaper faster download & upload speeds. QUOTE(nyunyu @ Aug 24 2015, 08:57 PM) Just adding ,my review. For those who want to use myiptv or hdtv on your box, definitely avoid box without hardware decoding capabilities. It just won't work or will have shitty quality. Good share bro... Perhaps, you could add which particular box model has such issue? Easier for people to avoid.

QUOTE(megahertz @ Aug 27 2015, 09:12 AM) guys, wat other things u do with ur android box beside streaming/watching movies ? so far i hv installed astro-on-the-go, unifi-hypptv-everywhere and some app to streaming from my NAS movies collections and all these are streaming/watching movies. quite bored, not sure wat thing to do with it. Well, the primary reason is to be a media center. So in addition to streaming/watching movies, Its my audio center, plays audio files, podcasts and acts as a radio. I hooked up a PS3 controller and game a bit on it when I can... PS Emulators, Asphalt 8, Dead Trigger, Modern combat, etc (I reserve heavier gaming for the PC). Used to use my previous box as a torrent downloader to an external HD (Less electricity consumed + no need to copy here, there..). Some browse on their TV, I don't and find it improper to do so in the family room. Get a compatible webcam n mic, install Skype, hangouts, etc, and can chat with family n pals. P.S. For more homely/nefarious activities... It can also act as a webcam + audio recorder.. This post has been edited by voncrane: Aug 27 2015, 04:57 PM

QUOTE(lightning69 @ Sep 9 2015, 12:05 PM) How to use PS3 controller on android player. I am also looking for a wireless keyboard touchpad for my android TV box. Any recommendations? I'm using a box from Minix and as so, not sure if your HiMedia box would be compatible, since this is the HiMedia thread. However, mine's a simple plug n play (USB from PS3 controller to box), wireless support can be had through rooting the box + Sixaxis Controller app from Google Play. There are other wireless enabled game-pads and tons of wireless keyboard+touch-pad combo out there compatible with android boxes. Most operate through Bluetooth or a small USB dongle for boxes without Bluetooth support. I've got 1 Anker wireless keyboard+touch-pad to let go, its brand new.. PM me for a quick sale.

QUOTE(Tainted @ Sep 12 2015, 10:12 PM) I went to digital mall to have a look. I have narrowed down to himedia q3 and minix x6, which is better? You've been warned not to get the Q3.... If you can't yet justify a better box now, simply save up a bit more and buy later. Rather than buy now and later complain about poorer performance or incompatibility with newer apps. The Minix X6 is a much older device so I'd advise to skip that too. However, say your needs are quite simple and you are satisfied with their current performance, then by all means go for the MINIX NEO X6, at least its got the Amlogic S805 Quad-Core CPU. QUOTE(Tainted @ Sep 12 2015, 10:52 PM) I understand that. But am not willing to spend the extra as I am not using it to replace my astro. I just want a box for watching tvb and older hk series and some other movies, both english and chinese. Hence I have narrowed down to these 2 models. The minix x6 has got quite good reviews online, why is it a better option? Summarily and also as you've found out, the Minix box has better reviews online.

QUOTE(Tainted @ Sep 13 2015, 11:35 AM) Btw, why did u say "at least its got Amlogic S805 quad core cpu"? Is that a good processor as compared to Q3's A9? Amlogic S805 Quad-core 1.5GHz > ARM Cortex A9 1.6G Dual-core. Should offer better hardware decoding at 1080p resolution. Minix also has an active & dedicated forum for their products in English. Firmwares and or tweaks are easier to get.

QUOTE(Tainted @ Sep 13 2015, 04:51 PM) But the Q3 is a quad core too. My bad. .. Got thrown off by a Google search and kept thinking it's the Q6 which is dual core (Mixed up the X & Q). The Q3 is indeed a Quad-core device. Think of it this way, you've been warned against using the Q3 while the Minix has good reviews online. If you've tested both and are satisfied by the initial performance of both boxes, wouldn't it be a safer bet to go with the one with better reviews? Just make sure that whatever iptv service you plan on subscribing later on is supported on the Minix X6 as sometimes they r locked to certain boxes like the Himedia.

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Sep 15 2015, 09:50 AM) 16 gb memory is necessary for large apps. after os, other apps, there is kodi which takes up another >1gb usually. the remaining 8gb or so is just good for ALL videos in popcorn time. better to have a bit more than a bit less for future use! This... Most people don't seem to understand that installing KODI alone can easily grow to over 1GB, tack on the mandatory space for the OS (say 2GB - 4GB) and other apps, particularly large games and an 8GB ROM won't even have the space to buffer and stream properly.

QUOTE(kalkamel @ Oct 19 2015, 03:54 PM) I bought the Himedia H8 to stream TV and to play my HD movies on hard disks. Previously used a Minix and out of the box, my HD movies played fine using XMBC. Menu navigation within XBMC was also smooth. On the H8 however, with Kodi Isengard, some movies stuttered whilst playing. It'll play fine but every 5 seconds or so the video would stutter for a second and resume. Bear in mind this is played from a hard disk and not streamed. I've tried enabling the different types of hardware acceleration within Kodi but the problem still persists. Anyone else face this problem? In addition, you can force KODI to use external players on android instead of its default player ( How-To). It involves creating an xml file and saved in your userdata folder. Try looking into that. Should work for local files & possibly streaming videos as well. KODI & Minix FTW! Sorry, just had to... This post has been edited by voncrane: Oct 19 2015, 07:57 PM

QUOTE(kalkamel @ Oct 19 2015, 10:21 PM) I'm a Minix fan too, unfortunately there's no 4k@60hz support in Minix. The Himedia H8 has it. Yeah i know... Seeing as I don't have or intend getting a 4K TV anytime soon, plus no much 4K content out there as yet anyway... I overlooked such. I'm giving 4K tech about 5 more years to develop both hardware and software, by then, better boxes and TVs will be produced... Did the external player tweak work?

QUOTE(kambing007 @ Oct 22 2015, 12:35 PM) Hi Right now I cannot run Chrome. I keep getting the error "Chrome failed during startup with unexpected error" I have uninstall, reinstalled, cleared cache, clear data. Many times. Still same problem. This is annoying, please assist. Tempted to do a factory reset, getting frustrated Anyone experience this before? Any Ideas? Perhaps the latest Chrome version is buggy with the box? Get a hold of an older apk file, might work. Alternatively, just use a different browser for now till another update. Factory reset should be a last resort.

QUOTE(GrandElf @ Nov 18 2015, 10:24 AM) Already chk...the same is totally same with .srt behind......chk at my laptop playing using media player classic is OK.... The subtitle is display but when bring to play at the android box, the subtitle didn't appear..... Then no choice have to bring my laptop and connec to my TV to play the movie........it's troublesome.... Typically, that should work. What media player did you use on the box? Perhaps needed to enable subtitles display in its settings or try another like MX Player. This post has been edited by voncrane: Nov 18 2015, 10:55 AM

Tried other HDMI cables and preferably on another TV or HDMI input device? Need to eliminate that its truly the box's hardware.

QUOTE(feverboyboy @ Nov 27 2015, 11:59 AM) Personally, I won't be interested in it due to the following reasons. *No H.265 support *Page doesn't seem to state what OS its actually running. *Most Android boxes already support "NAS-type" features. However, better get a dedicated NAS system for better performance. *Uncertainty about hardware decoding and acceleration. *Uncertainty about HD audio pass-through feature. *Minimum Order: 1000 Pcs... Summarily, if you can look past the above and the price sounds reasonable to you... Pull the trigger and come leave a review later..
