something i just discovered....

no that i will use it much but may be of interest to others.

there is an app (comes with firmware... since dunno when... 2.01, 2.0.4..?) called MOVIE BAR, find it in MyApps.

it will display all your videos found in yr in yr drives - internal HDD, usb...

thumbnails, titles, video info, audio info, summary, plot, etc.

u can playback direct from there - it goes right to the native player.

Anyone knows someone who is good in electronics repairs. My Himedia 910A having problem, bootup, after a while lose signal and hang, green screen.

Tested . not HDMI cable or TV problem.

Maybe age related problem, or could be just need to change some capacitor ??

if u can find... get a suitable power adaptor to test it.

this is the only hardware failure i experience over 6 years with 4 himedia boxes.

But the power adapter still got light. Can still boot up , only after a few minutes hang. If adapter problem won't even boot up right?

not necessarily.

if the adaptor is failing, it will not be able to supply enough or stable power to the module inside the box.

in my case, the indicator stays on but it either power up and die quickly or will not power up at all.

change adaptor, all is good.

I just tested with my ext USB hard disk bay adapter 3A. The Himedia adapter is 2A. But still get green screen and hang after few minutes.

Guess time to get new player.

I switched back to the Himedia adapter and quickly reset the system settings to factory default before it hangs.

So far now already 10min, no hang yet. Hope this did the trick, fingers crossed.
------------------------------------
Update:

After 20min , green screen and hangs again.

Buy new player.
Check adaptor... i think himedia use same adaptor for all boxes.
Test new adaptor on old box.
If good, buy one new adaptor.
Then, u hv 2 boxes! biggrin.gif

I doubt that adaptor is suitable.

Do try to find a right himedia adaptor and try.

cyew86 is using customized firmware from futeko on q5pro.

useful comments for those who wanna try. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(cyew86 @ Jan 24 2018, 10:51 AM)
I have not gotten the chance to try the internal player, I accidentally left my external HDD at my relative's place, will only get back this weekend. I will be able to test by then.
Custom FW ships with Kodi v17.6, with custom skin. From what I read, bluray menu is embedded as well, no need to install the patch separately
Using it for few hours, below are the pros that I can observe:
1. Can run Astro Go and Unifi PlayTV
2. Custom wallpaper supported (live and static)
3. Nicer UI (subjective)
4. Kodi comes with certain add-ons installed (e.g. YouTube, Weather, custom skin, may be good for certain users, I personally have uninstalled them all laugh.gif )
5. Can uninstall Facebook and Skype
6. Other apps pre-installed, e.g. Power Menu, ES File Explorer, One Touch Access

Can't think of any cons right now, unless I want to be picky and say that the task killer (QuickClean) kills off my live wallpaper every time I run it. Can say that the custom firmware is a good upgrade over the official one smile.gif

Thanks smile.gif
Another item to add on: Chromecast screensaver is built in, it will run after you leave the box idle for awhile (didn't keep track, 5 minutes maybe?). Good for preventing burn-in on your TV panel smile.gif

Installed 2.0.7.

I dun notice any change! biggrin.gif

Just minor fixes, i guess.

Well, all is good for me, as before.
Q10pro is coming up 2 years old.

I would think a successor is coming... mid year maybe...?

Hi,

Seeking for clarification, i'm using Q10pro, so whenever there's firmware update all your setting in Kodi will be lost?
Need to update setting again after the latest firmware installation successful?
Found this backup method on the web (http://koditips.com/how-to-backup-kodi-and-restore-on-another-device/), is this method can be use?

Thanks.

there r 2 ways to update firmware.

1. cut off power totally, insert firmware in usb drive, use toothpick to press/hold the reset button at back while powering up.
this method will remove everything, all clean - u reinstall all apps.
it is cleaner, used when u suspect there is too much junk, better redo all.

2. insert firmware in usb drive, update/upgrade in option under settings - local update.
this method will keep all apps/data, nothing removed.
it is easier, less work.

before u upgrade firmware on q10pro, u need to first check which firmware u hv now.
there is a sequence to follow, jumping from one to another may brick the box.
firmware 2.0.7 requires the last one to be 2.0.4 or higher.

backups - u can do backups in diff ways.
for apps, can use a backup/restore app - many of them, find in playstore.
for kodi configuration, i simply copy and then paste back if necessary, a folder named org.xbmc.kodi

Alternatively, there's an official Kodi Backup addon. You should install that and keep a stable backup copy. If any issues, just reinstall Kodi and the addon.. Restore the backup and you are back in business.
