I am not a network sifu, but i want to ask if below setup will be sucessful?

1. i can set the Wifi router of my unifi to a custom ip like 10.10.10.1 like that?
2. then i connect the wifi router that got 4 LAN port to a switch
3. then i connect my PC to the switch using LAN cable also as ip 10.10.10.7
4. then can i just set my PC gateway to point to 10.10.10.1 (the wifi router)?

will sabove setup works?

good question. Since the lines are using fiberoptic cable now, theoretically it should be less prone to lightning strike. What you guys think?
*
it still can strike over the powerline somewhere

Yes it will work. I don't see any benefit changing the IP class. Why not just stick to the default 192.168.x.xxx IP table? hmm.gif

dude, I'm experiencing the same thing as you. the line keeps dropping

on another note. during a thunderstorm do I still need to pull out the cable plug just like the normal modems where we have to pull out the phone line to avoid it getting struck?

my phone line is through poles, not underground.

For sure your modem is save because fiber cannot transmit electricity....

but remember we plug our modem to power line..... that is the concern now..... buy a good lightning protector plug....

Although my VIP5 seems to have a stable download/upload speed, there's one issue though. I noticed that after a while of torrenting, it seems that I can't surf the web anymore.

Doing a ping to let's say lowyat.net will receive response but it seems that all my web browsers will not be able to surf any websites. It'll just show that the web server is taking too long to respond. sweat.gif

Anyone have similar experience?

Nope, used a MikroTik RB250GS connected to my Buffalo router flashed with DD-WRT. Nope I limit my torrent's speed as well to not utilize the whole connection.

Yes very similar problem with mine. The Internet connection is definitely not dead since pinging servers/websites can get a respond. Not sure why the web browser won't be able to load anything.
