dude, I'm experiencing the same thing as you. the line keeps dropping

on another note. during a thunderstorm do I still need to pull out the cable plug just like the normal modems where we have to pull out the phone line to avoid it getting struck?

my phone line is through poles, not underground.
*
QUOTE(abubin @ May 11 2011, 11:53 AM)
good question. Since the lines are using fiberoptic cable now, theoretically it should be less prone to lightning strike. What you guys think?
*
For sure your modem is save because fiber cannot transmit electricity....

but remember we plug our modem to power line..... that is the concern now..... buy a good lightning protector plug....

but i go tm point ask many many times...they said if my house no tv, they wont install unifi for me ==...they say the installation cannot be completed without tv
*
no tv at all??? if not then take biz hehehehehehe.... you just get or borrow tv from others or if you can use your pc monitor if got hdmi.... they just want to see whether all thing delivered or not.... cause you take the services....

I noticed one thing when I watch videos from YouTube, when I first load the video my connection will hit my max speed about 4.6-4.8mbps and once it buffers to about 1/4 of the video, it automatically slows down to about 1.5mbps.

Is this some sort of "throttling" by TM? sweat.gif
*
i'm also experiencing the same situation.... dunno tm or google.... but i think google side maybe the put first priority when user demand any video at first place, then after couple minute(mean that buffers reach certain minute) than its go low priority....

I have my unifi since April 2011, so far ok but I don't monitor the speed every day.

I am suspicious whether TM guys really uses fiber optic from the TM box to the house because in my connection they pull a black cable from the TM box to a "connection box" before connecting a white fiber cable.

I scrape the covering of some thrown black cable and found white metal inside.

see my picture attached: Pic1 is the black cable (sorry blurry, snap with my h/phone) and pic2 is the external box.

Does anyone know anything?

the wire(metal) is use as reinforcement and also to tie the cable at the pole and also at the roof/building(like mine)

the fiber is very2 fine....

inside the white box, just connector only.... in fact the just can use the black cable directly i think, but not very practical....

I'm better but still the speed is slow today. my DL constantly stays about 2mbps for whole day while UL was fine. I am at equine park on VIP5.

On a side note, I was tidying up all the cabling this noon and this two question came across my head:
1) To what extend can we bend the fiber optic cable? I remember the installer was telling me over bending can break the cable. To make my workspace tidy, i bent the cable 90 degree over a radius of about 3cm. Is that fine?
2) The ONT seems pretty hot. Mine is an Alcatel-Lucent unit. Is it fine to stack something else over the ONT? Anyone experienced failed overheated ONT?

*
yup, over bending the fiber optic will break the cable(it is glass, sure it can be break)

mine also alcatel lucent and its ok... just warm only.....

usually those devices is design/made in oversea.. they are not designed for use in places with hot weather like malaysia... sad.gif thats why heat is a problem for these devices...
i doubt its glass, as glass based fibers are very expensive, more like its the modern plastic alternative...

yeah once break habis cannot pakai at all already.. becomes worthless
*
it's make from glass.... i got a few fiber optic left from the installation and try to burn it, and the fiber only glow(red color) not melt or catch on fire.... proof it's make from glass

Don't know if it's just me but I have made an observation on another matter.

By right I remember that IPTV has some sort of its own reserved bandwidth for watching the channels right?

However when my IPTV is on and watching a channel, my Internet/PC's bandwidth will drop.

Before IPTV is on, my PC can hit my usual max speed around 4.7-4.8mbps for both download and upload (VIP5). Once IPTV is on, my download speed becomes about 3.5-3.8mbps while upload still hits top speed.

Anyone can do a similar observation and tell me your outcome?
*
so far it ok for me... no drop or what so ever.... IPTV got their bandwidth, 8mbps....

I'm not too sure about that.  I've only had to put in my userid without appending @StreamyxZone.  But first be sure to choose unifi user from the drop-down menu.
*
it need exact like that..... i been tried xxx@streamyxzone, cannot login.... then try the correct one, can login....
