Simple. Perak & Ipoh (used to) produce a lot of kids and there's nothing for them after SPM. There are no (respectable) universities or tertiary institutions, so they go off to KL, SG or overseas to study. Those who come back after uni (like me) find out that there are no major 'international' companies/employers in Ipoh apart from the semicon firms. So (like me) they venture out again after a short stint in Ipoh.

My hardcopy resume's a one-pager.

All it has is a list of my degrees, professional qualifications, last 5 jobs and no more than 5 bullet points about 'other skills' like languages, specific knowledge and experiences.

And when I describe my job, I don't write a long story. Title, duration, company and one sentence on the scope of what I do (eg. I am the "xxx role/process owner/decisionmaker" at US$xxx million/billion revenue business).

Did you change jobs frequently? Did your previous employers reported something bad on you to the MOM?

Statistic reference please, why bother asking why when you not even confirm whether it's a fact or not?
I don't there's a statistical reference. But I have to say, my colleagues and I do hear this "perception" a lot. Maybe it's just my office. 2 of my 4 bosses since I arrived in Singapore have been Ipohites. Now that it's my turn, I have to say favouritism or familiarity does play a part. My hand picked successor will be another Ipoh-mali I recruited from our KL office.

I'm interested to know too jungyu. If you don't mind me asking, what pass did you hold? Got rejected during renewal? Or fresh application?

Coz I hardly come across rejected pass renewal cases.
*
i was holding SPass. There were few renewal cases being rejected in my companies recently, i was one of those.
I am clean sheet, no bad record. not ideas why kept getting rejected.
I once suspected it was because the information given for applications did not tally, coz my first spass application, my ex-company never revealed the info they filled for me, just worried they had wrong info submitted.

Like I said. Already fully shared by giving step by step instructions. If you can't draft your own resume with instructions like that... maybe a one-pager's not quite right for you lah.

Btw, if anyone's interested in the Samsung Galaxy S II... Singapore sucks. No contract price here is $998... but only RM2090 in KL (Samsung shop) and HK$5300 in HK (Fortress).

no. these companies always tried EP for me if rejected then SPass, if both got rejected, they would just say sorry, chance of appeal being rejected is 100% i think. they dont wanna waste 3 weeks time waiting for me tongue.gif

yeah. i was surprised by the pricing as well. It's more expensive than iPhone4 in Sg. Not many would choose a more expensive Samsung over Apple.

The thing is that there are not many people who are still deciding whether to get an iPhone or Android. By now, you're either an Apple fan or an Android fan. Apple fans won't get the S II no matter how cheap it is, and Android fans won't buy an iPhone even if the S II was more expensive.

I'll probably get the S II from Malaysia on my next trip home and save S$150.

Looking at how Samsung has priced the Tab or Galaxy S, they didn't drop the price much at all, until the replacement model was no more than 3 or 4 months away.

However, the telco subsidised prices with plans, did drop quite a bit 6 months or so after the launch.

Hey guys, i went thru some of the job application in jobstreet, many of it indicated that they want singaporeans or pingapore pr in their jobs.
Is it true that most of the big company think twice before hiring people from malaysia?
Thx

Ya, RM2090. Cousin scanned the Samsung advert from newspaper.

How do you claim back Gst? You're not a tourist.

And why can't you get a phone line with a phone bought from Malaysia ?
