Guys,

Need some advise here. My contractor give me 2nd grade tiles instead of 1st grade. Am very upset now. Charging me so expensive yet give me 2nd grade tiles and cheap labours. All the promise like finish tiling in 1 week, chinese sifu and 1st grade tiles all never done. What should I do. Tiling with 2nd grade already half way done. I really don;t like the 2nd grade tiles. Can share some of your thoughts about 1st grade Vs 2nd grade. Thanks.

And how do you find out is 2nd Grade?

Personally, unless I know the contractor well enough, I would purchase the tile myself. At least you will know what's the product you are getting for the money spend.
As for the 1st grade & 2nd grade, this would depends on the manufacturers. Some 2nd grade tiles are just the consistency of the shades or dimensions.
If the tiles have already been installed, to change it will be like throwing them away.

Grade 1 can also be old tiles. And some Tiles manufacture will downgrade the existing tiles from Grade 1 to Grade 2 if put in stock for too long because color fade.

Don't think it will pop up, color maybe fade.

Why these contractors using 2nd grade tiles as the cost maybe only 2/3 or maybe 1/2 of the grade A quality. For example, I was hunting for Guocera Sonara series 2x2 procelain tiles and was counter-offered for each piece only 13 rm if compared to RM20+ grade A. I ended up using all NIRO grade A Charme and Wave series for wall and floor (bathrooms and kitchen walls). The table top using NIRO black GMA29 plus white horse grey 2x2 for kitchen floor. The result is quite promising and nice but the damage is close to approximately RM 20K including workwanship which covers total area ~1400 sp feet only.

Niro tiles are quite tough and hard to be drilled or cut. However, shading still varies from batch to batch.

what's the price you got for black GMA29? i oso eyeing that black polish tile. hehehe... does it look anything like robinsons floor in gardens ah? the infamous "mirror" floor.

I bought some MML tiles B-Grade (2nd grade) because the 1st grade ones were out of stock. The MML box doesn't say it's 'B' or '2nd' but "COMMERCIAL GRADE". Perhaps, all large mall projects utilise this cheaper version?

Apparently, for places like porch (a more rugged environment), the minor discrepancies is almost unnoticeable to most people (besides the fact that your vehicle will cover it most of the time... )...I haven't installed mine yet, but I have a feeling that it won't be THAT BAD...

RM27 per piece.... should be much discounted price cos i pay nearly 9 k for tiles altogether..

Is there a place or way to look for a specific discontinued tile?
I am missing a few goucera pieces for my kitchen, checked with the factory, maintenance office and developer d and no luck.

I suppose the only thing to do next is to go tile hunting? Which area has a lot of tile shops?

You may want to check with the PJ office if you have the code, than they may able to identified when or similar type of tiles you could use...
Normally after few years those tiles will be gone from market.

Looking at the promo above makes me wonder how are the tiles i've seen in Super Ceramic where they were selling:

1' x 1' for about RM2.30/pc and 10" x 13" for about the same price....as compared to those RM10 and above for 600mm x 600mm..anyone care to explain?
