Which subsidiary is that? Seems rather low considering 2.5K is the norm for fresh grad with degree. Better check with them if you get the yearly bonus otherwise you will be losing out a lot. Anyway the bonus amount varies between business units. Also seems funny that you are a permanent staff but are not entitled to full benefits.
GSF Key...is it true that one of the staff there likes to take evening jogs around the helideck without PPE? My rig is just opposite yours, in light blue skirt =).
*
Not sure but i can ask around. I usually come later then the derrick hands and roughnecks.

There was one rig which is currently occupying the drydock area where the GSF Key was. I think its a malaysian manned rig since i hear the announcement on their intercom system being broad casted in both english and malay.

Not sure how true is this, but for those gonna cast their votes in Msia, do take note:

ALERT ! HAVE YOU OBSERVED THIS ?

During POLLING DAY, when it is your turn to COLLECT your BALLOT SLIP,
you present your IC.
Your name will be called out. Very Normal.
Your LISTING NUMBER will also be called out. Perfectly NORMAL.

Now what is ABNORMAL is the OFFICER who hands you your ballot slip.
He will LIGHTLY WRITE (in pencil) your LISTING NUMBER ON THE BALLOT PAPER ! This is HIGHLY IRREGULAR and in essence , is ILLEGAL ! Your ballot slip can be classified as DEFACED AND HENCE "SPOILT" ! NOTHING ELSE BUT AN " X" should be on the BALLOT SLIP IN THE BOX OF YOUR CHOICE - BY ONLY YOU !

They are SELECTIVE on whose ballot they write on.

This was relayed to me just now at Giant, by an elderly man of 67 yrs old, who has been voting many times and observing the same thing happening. He usually bring along an ERASER.

Those of you who are voting this coming election be it State or National, please take note - and take care. Bring your eraser with you. If you see an officer write ANYTHING on your BALLOT SLIP, bring this matter up to PARTY OBSERVERS AT THE POLLING CENTRES.

Happy voting ! Pass the word around !

It's alpine engineering services =X ... hmphz ... i guess i will look for other companies =( ...   what other O&G/marine companies in sg =/..
*
Oh dude, you got one of the f***** up engineering companies man. Their nothing but cheap labour fronts for keppel and various other shipyards. Their more like manpower companies rather then being a true engineering firm. That and kwong soon engineering all hire alot of bangla and indian workers. Plus all the old timers at the shipyards like to bully these people for no good reason other then to inflate their self esteem.

I would suggest you try other companies, i heard NOV, halliburton or WOM are looking for people. You could give them a try. Btw, WOM means world oilfield machine.

I always say the moral of the story is do NOT get caught. U can do what ever you want rob, rape, kill, etc as long as you do NOT get caught and if you could live with yourself after doing those things then who cares. If IF u do get caught, then YR SCREWED!

on paper there are recommendations of 2 solutions. there maybe more innovative & creative solutions to become 3rd or 4th or 5th or etc solutions.
it is about to think innovatively and create a balance win-win situation for everyone technically & commercially & lawfully.

certain singaporeans just blindly follow & lazy to think or just tai chi. in short, lazy.
beautiful on paper but not on implementation if observe carefully.

Huh I didn't know GSF was drydocked. When I saw it, it was already jacked up at the end of the quay. What's the name of the rig? As I know it, Petronas Carigali doesn't really use JU that much, mostly semi.

Sounds like this company is trying to squeeze you dry. I'm sure there are other better options around...keep looking!

FYI, I started at 2.5k fresh grad and was increased to 2.75k after confirmation. I only have a bachelor eng degree.

Don't take my after confirmation salary as an absolute figure. My boss was happy with my performance so he gave me a 10% increment. Yours may vary.
*
I think many are still getting this kind of figure .. as a starting pay

But was it very long ago ? when u started off with your companY ?

10% is a lot. Most of the companies in singapore is giving single digit increment.

Anyway, people are always confused about the concept of salary increment and salary adjustment.

The economy was really bad in 2009, but it bounced back in 2010. Generally a lot of companies in singapore were performing unexpectedly well in 2010, taking 2009 in comparison, which reflected in mass hiring and high revenue in Q3 onwards. Naturally, those companies would repay those that worked hard during recession but it does not have to be in rainfall increment. Most of them are being careful in current economic situation so giving out huge increment is definitely something they wouldn't do without deep consideration. A good annual bonus is more likely to happen.

Anyway this is a very generalised speculation. Not every company can afford huge bonus/increment. I've heard from friends that get insignificant rewards, some have gotten big fat 8.5 months of bonus. This is very subjective, varies from companies, industries and etc etc. Of course not to forget the election is coming so someone has to look good on the newspaper

Yup, it was drydocked earlier in the mid of march but was moved to accomodate the other rig. Took 2 days just to move it to the quay side so i relax for 2 days while they moved it to the new location.

If you can stay then stay, if you can run just run lor. You should be more familiar with this after a while. Nothing is perfect.. stay or run is just a decision, doesn't affect much if you always have a plan B.

Hi all, I'll be starting work at Singapore next month. I'm currently looking for a place to stay and I've some enquiries.

1.) Did you find your place using an Agent?
2.) Is it the norm for a 1 year contract to be signed?
3.) How much was your deposit and is it true that rental in Singapore is 1 month forward?
4.) How much was your Agent fees?

Thanks in advance.

ask your friends and relative, I am sure that somehow there is someone related to them or you that is staying in SG. Then mayb rent a room from them to save the agent fees. but if you really insist to get it from an agent, then the normal practice is 1 month advance + 1 month deposit + 1/2 month agent fees.
