yo guys... i need help regarding information on work permit... if S pass is not enough quota, can the company still apply for work permit if non of their employees holding wp but only S pass... my S pass rejected and MOM said is because over quota... so bad luck... so now need information on the work permit... hope can get information from here... thank you so much in advanced... ^^
*
with the levy hiking recently & quota on S-pass, my comp. is also having the issue...
local singaporeans is very very difficult to get to do those physical intensive labour tasks in our plants. we mostly employ china/india/bangla for physical intensive tasks...
http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/pas...es/default.aspx

A Work Permit (WP) is generally issued to foreign unskilled workers with a monthly basic salary of not more than $1,800.

The duration of a Work Permit is generally two years, subject to the validity of the worker’s passport, the Banker’s/Insurance Guarantee, and the worker’s employment period, whichever is shorter. The worker is only allowed to work for the employer and in the specified occupation.

Specific variants of Work Permits allow foreigners to work as domestic helpers, confinement nannies and performing artistes.

u wanna stay in JB ar?? very very troublesome 1.... my friend stay in Sentosa and work in NUS, he start work 8am, he need to leave home at 5:30am. you need to take 170 to Kranji, then from Kranji take MRT to Clementi, from Clementi, there is a shuttle bus to NUS (according to him, i never tried). if u stay in JB, i suggest that u buy a motorbike and ride a bike better, save a lot of time.

PS : JB bus service sux... they like to wait for passengers at the bus stop... i tried once, the stupid driver waited for 30 mins at the bus stop before he jalan.
*
agreed with lester, better get ur own transport or stay at singapore if you are having above case.

if using Tuas 2nd link, car VEP SGD 20 per day + toll to & fro SGD6.40. total SGD 26.40.
every year free 11 or 10 VEP (cannot remember the exact free VEP per year).
you can find more from LTA --> http://www.lta.gov.sg/motoring_matters/ind...oring_guide.htm

*** To be honest, it is not worth working in singapore from my observation in term of $ with exception highly paid (SGD3.5k above) or company finance you with allowance or one is looking for international/oversea experience exposure or still single.

depends and there is no written rule stated in LTA or Singapore police forces that says can or cannot, but they don't check ur license when u ride in. unless you really so "sui" they go check you. i have been riding for close to 5 months now. never even once i see those people ask if you have a license unless you are registering for the BIKES service.
depends on the location you are looking for. normally those rooms around Kastam are expensive. around RM350 (small room) to RM700 (master room). I rent a whole unit low cost flat for only RM300. but its further away from town lo. around 16KM to Kastam. I heard that my area can get terrace house for RM450 only. but what's the point of renting a big house if only staying alone biggrin.gif

most of the time, they will ask for your passport + employment pass/working permit.
driving in/out since year 2008 on & off and have been nearing 1 year daily. just a time being asked for passport before leaving sg custom, checking for summons if any.

Hi guys I will be starting my work in Singapore next Tuesday as an Assistant Project Engineer.

I kinda just found out that I will have the 'Assistant' tag in front (the job was advertised as Project Engineer) and they're paying me a pretty measly probation pay of $2200 although I have a Masters degree. But I am a fresh grad with no prior working experience and I thought that it still beats the offers I get from Malaysia, so yeah.

Would you guys take the job, under these circumstances?
*
at SGD2,200, if you are looking for overseas experience & not $ (you do not need to support family, no loan, single), then u should consider seriously to take it.

just for accommodation you need to pay minimum monthly SGD 4xx-6xx, depends on location and size & facilities. transport around SGD1xx-2xx. meals depends on individual. entertainment depends on individual.
daily groceries depend on individual.

just know singapore companies (some chinaman type) always ask for malaysians as cheap labour.
pls becareful when job hunting sometimes.

choice is yours. what do you need & want.

that is why in university there is final year project (fyp), individual & group assignments. can't agree one just generalized project management is not learned in uni. there is also a subject operations management. basic management. a hiring manager will ask about the fresh grad candidate on this fyp to gauge him/her in one of the hiring criteria. confidence of speaking, extra-curricular taking in uni, etc... does not limit to china, myanmar, etc...

depends on company business nature & project nature. a project engineer may involve from preliminary design stage to completion stage, handover.
input design ideas and coordinate with other disciplines, produce design drawings (CAD! one may have drafter to assist), prepare BQ (may refer historical project reference, ask from vendors, contractors, etc), tender documents, interview bidders, attend progress meeting, site-coordination, gantt chart, site preparation, risk assessment, method statements, liasing with authorities, manage sub-con, daily/weekly/monthly report, any tasks assigned by project manager/superior, go hardware shop buy with cash, stock-take, manage feedback and maintain good relationship with clients, manage labours, on-site trouble-shoot, (factory acceptance test) FAT, SAT (site acceptance test), etc...

some may also need to understand the operation process for a plant/factory or from oil & gas exploration to production stages, upstream to downstream and vice versa, all depends on the type of project. without understanding of the operation process one may not have available resources to manage a project well and upkeep within cost budget. for this type of project, the engineersss need to start to discuss with the client/owner/developer's requirements the operation process to design...

there are many things to learn and one's willingness to learn on-job and read.

I can't argue with you as I know next to nothing about this issue, but none of my Malaysian friends in Singapore earns close to $3k as a fresh grad, not even a NUS grad who is now working at a government lab who is just earning $2.5k.
I don't. Now I do.  sad.gif
Trust me, I've sent my fair share of resumes to the Singaporean MNCs with few replies.
Btw, my girlfriend is a fresh grad as well who just finished her ACCA exams.
ch_teo and seantang, you guys are obviously familiar with the working environment in Singapore, care to tell what do you do?
*
am still learning... from mechanical engineer to project engineer to QHSE engineer/internal auditor. no choice to transfer from kl office to sg office due to business unit divestment. still prefer to work in kl...

maybe u will start to know BCA, EMA, SCDF, JTC, PUB, LTA, NEA, MOM, etc...wahaha! biggrin.gif

I am aware of that. The thing is, I have been reviewing the approval letter for my employment pass at it clearly states "Project Engineer" as the occupation.

I know I'm probably just being hopeful, but perhaps I am only stuck with the 'Assistant' tag during my probation? The contract did say that there will be a salary review upon completion of the probation period.

I'm really appreciating the great feedback from you guys, thanks a million!  notworthy.gif

this is sg, becareful sometimes as what with on paper is not as what employer claimed in ur actual works... welcome to sg! biggrin.gif

First, why are you struggle even before you start to do something? It's not like they already had offer you the option. smile.gif
Feed back from the forumer is that applying for  PR since middle of year 2009 had become so much harder, not many people applied sucessfully.

2nd, if you've no saving plan, start to have one. Applying PR have nothinig to do with your saving plan. Although it force you to contribute certain % of your salary and company contributed varies % over the year as saving, you will not see  lots of increment in your savings in 2 years time.

Status of PR might give you some advantage in certain scenario but in term of savings, please start to plan your own savigns plan.
*
you should start to plan a saving from now. you can self-contributed to your EPF through CIMB clicks/Maybank2u.com every month with condition you have a EPF account. Other saving plans are up to individual. Pls start at least 2 type of savings, plan for retirement, inflation in malaysia is hiking.
anyhow, choice is yours.

back pj average 1-2 times on Fri night every month smile.gif ... should any good offer from KL drops by, wanna back kl instead working in sg.

while I am glad many people want to expand there horizon by comming to sg to work I highly recommend those freshies to spend at least 2-3 years working in m'sia first before comming to sg to stand a better chance of being employed. The reason I said that is because the competition here especially for entry level job is very intense and furthermore preference will always be given to Singaporean and pr. And from what I know singaporeans employers do not have high regard for Malaysian unis. They even do not have high regard for proffesional qualification like acca or CPA unless it is accompanied by a degree. They always prefer the local unis coz that's where all the brainiacs are

I always say the moral of the story is do NOT get caught. U can do what ever you want rob, rape, kill, etc as long as you do NOT get caught and if you could live with yourself after doing those things then who cares. If IF u do get caught, then YR SCREWED!

on paper there are recommendations of 2 solutions. there maybe more innovative & creative solutions to become 3rd or 4th or 5th or etc solutions.
it is about to think innovatively and create a balance win-win situation for everyone technically & commercially & lawfully.

certain singaporeans just blindly follow & lazy to think or just tai chi. in short, lazy.
beautiful on paper but not on implementation if observe carefully.
