Yes you may apply thru email.

I just had to make a phone call to HLB, DA, AMEX, UOB and HSBC to change my contact number but for Alliance case, I have to fill in a form which they can only fax or email to me on Monday. Alliance bank has to most primitive system and no 24 hours customer service.

In fact it depends what kinda service you are seeking from the bank.
Some transactions/requests cannot be processed within certain period, most if not all are between 10pm to 8am.
As for your case, I think alteration of mobile phone is very common and should be no problem for the CS to update your contact number at once.

By now it's been fairly established that maybank credit cards offers among the best if not the best foreign currency conversion rates when using their cards abroad.

Does this is only apply to their visa and master only or it includes american express credit card (without MAYBANKARD stated on it) also as Maybank has bought over the Malaysian Amex business?

Amex (without MBB logo), on the other, has the highest admin fee on forex conversion for overseas transactions.

True AMEX has the highest Admin fees at 2.5% for overseas transactions but it does not necessary means you be paying more when comparing to foreign bank credit cards (i.e. HSBC). For CC issued by banks, on top of bank Admin Fees, I believe Visa and Mastercard also have some kind of charges. zenquix have confirmed that Allaince MC rate lower than Visa for Alliance. Forgot to get my wife to use her Alliance MC recently in SG to confirm.

Below is a table I did last year where you can note that AMEX rate can even be lower than HSBC. There was one AMEX transaction where the rate was even lower than DAVI and Alliance Visa.

you have posted that SCB conversion rate is high, would be helpful if you can do transactions overseas using you AMEX and SCBVI for comparison purposes (small amount lah).

I had terminated my SCB VI long ago! I now own SCB WMC.

When I still owned Alliance Visa Platinum last time, there was one occation that Alliance Visa's forex conversion rate was slightly higher than Amex. Before that my Alliance Visa's rate used to be much lower than Amex and other banks.

should be more or less the same I would guess. But good question. Since both MBB's non-generic Plat Visa and MC have the same benefit for overseas spending i.e. 2X points, it would be good to know if there's a difference. I am planning to get a MBB Plat MC since my MBB Petronas Visa Plat does not give 2X points for overseas. Next month when I get my statement will update all on MBB Petronas Visa Plat rate versus DAWMC, RHB Plat and UOB Plat for transactions in SG.

Just to inform those who lazy to read previous posts - MBB's CC forex conversion rate is the lowest and only MBB Standard Platinum CC gets 2X reward points for overseas spending.

The admin fees rates are published for all banks. At least stated from the back of your credit card statement and a list of those rates are already published in the 1st page of this forum.

What I believe is the differential is the actual forex rate used by the bank which differs from bank to bank and this is what make a difference when using your credit card overseas. I don't think this is a published rate and may differ from the bank's daily published forex rates.

I know everyone wants to know precisely how much will the bank charge and in my reply I would say it is not as if the bank is going to simply charge you an exorbitant rate just because they don't publish this information. (e.g Xe.com rate for USD1=RM3.17, bank won't charge you USD1=RM3.3. Actual cc rate will be around USD1=RM3.2x)

I don't think checking up this info is practical as rates changes on a daily basis and not to mention you actually need to capture the transaction posted rate (which can be anytime after the actual transaction rate) and not the actual transaction rate in order to accurate capture the rate used. To do the above you would need to check cc exchange rate and the transaction posted date very frequently on a daily basis - seriously guys you can do other things than just gluing your eyes to the PC checking out these info.

IMHO, just use MBB cc as the choice for overseas transactions. As we all knew SCB is the highest rate and even Alliance Bank so called admin free rates can be higher than banks who do charge admin fees! Every other banks will charge in between. Even using cash has forex charge built into them by the money changers/banks.

If you really don't want to be impose the fees ... just avoid buying anything in non RM dominated transactions. But of course this choice would seriously limit the online sites that you could buy things from.

When applying for a CC, does a so called 'premium' address gives you any advantage?
Just curious, because my friend had 2 failed cc applications - He got zero credit rating and it was his first job, worked for half a year at least. I told him when I first applied I was in the same position as him except for the fact that I was not earning as much as him. Then he said 'maybe it's because of your address'. (He lives in a 'Kampung')

Can you be specific as to what merchant and what are you actually paying for ?
You are using the term sending payment which is rather odd.

Buying stuff are normally instantaneous except overseas merchant normally hang on to your goods until they are able to "authenticate" your card.
