QUOTE(chewinggum @ Dec 9 2010, 08:36 PM) different section of the bicep . read this somewhere directed from google :S Depending on your palm position, it's hits different area on the bicep group. palm down (reverse curl), palm up(normal curl), palm straight (hammer curl). Also when your do straight bar curl, the close grip and wide grip also hit different section of the bicep

I wouldn't say it hits the same muscle group as both are compound lifts, but some muscle groups do overlap. I usually split up my squats and deadlift to be on different days as I put squats on leg day and deadlifts on back day. I find that if I put them together, I'm perilously close to wiping the floor with my face at the end.

I dont have a leg day, chest/shoulders days , arms day, and the third day is when i do all compound exercises. Guess i have to find time to squeeze in the deadlift. Deadlift + squats back to back = my death This post has been edited by whale1987: Dec 9 2010, 11:26 PM

QUOTE(darklight79 @ Dec 9 2010, 01:22 PM) Please don't take any offense Jon, and this definitely isn't targeted at you specifically, it's just that I don't understand why do people slack off the lifestyle sometimes for no reason unless it's a personal crisis, serious injury or an extremely time consuming commitment. I know some guys I train with who have worse work hours than me (and when this statement comes from someone of my profession, that's means nasty work hours) but are still insanely dedicated to the lifestyle. Maybe I'm looking at it from a skewed POV, I've been guilty of slacking a few times in my life ever since I've taken up the sport but never on extended periods. I might never compete but it's something that'll stay with me through life. haha chris, i screw up my back again thats why i went mia. but i still went to gym to do some light stuff. but cant go as frequent coz sometimes pain too unbearable. but i go at least 2-3 times a week. not as often as b4 like 5-6 times a week. now i feel better, so going back to 3-4 times a week. but will push myself again. now targeting to reach 100kg bench by end of this month.

Anabol thread went from Flame to Closed in just under 2 hours. Pretty quick. Is it our culture to think there is a shortcut for everything?

Yeah it was pathetic. Plus the guy knew he messed up and tried to cover by saying he was just asking about it. It's quite common actually when i was studying at malacca. Typical young guy starts out within a few weeks and he's juicing.

Is it our culture to think there is a shortcut for everything? he closed it himself. no comments on anabols though, dont know enough to say anything. i DO know i would never juice. dont do drugs and never would. a question guys. is it a good idea to have someone to give you a lift off from a starting position of an exercise? i find myself not being able to go heavier than what i currently can handle without some assistance. do you guys do it?

I wouldn't lump juicing under the same boat as the public perception of doing drugs, there is still a difference between the two. For me, there should be years of foundation building and a whole lot of knowledge acquired before choosing to cross that bridge. Anyhow, enough on that touchy subject.
From the way you structured your question, I don't suppose you mean spotter but someone to help you getting each rep off? I've never had anyone assist each rep from the get go but I have utilize negative reps where my spotter would help me on the lift and I would focus on the lowering portion.
Please enlighten me if there is, but I don't see a benefit to having a spotter assist the liftoff of each rep from the start if it isn't negatives. If it is on the final reps, then spotter assist is normal to squeeze everything out of the muscle. Well, the only benefit I see is more ego based which is lifting more weight than usual.

I think what he meant is probably the starting position which doesnt count as a rep. I thinks its okay to have a spotter to help your way in the starting position when it is quite heavy so that you can continue the following reps on your own.
