Let's say we already have a savings account with Maybank. Can we open another basic savings account? I want to avoid paying the IBG fee when paying for OCBC CC. No branch here in Bintulu
*
if u'll like to keep the normal saving, u also can open a basic current account which has the same benefit as bsa

In that case, many Malaysians must think that carrying a Maybank credit card is very very prestigious  tongue.gif

Well, u got to give credits to Maybank, their 'influences' amongts locals are good, their ATMs, branches and ads are everywhere, not to forget M2U flexibility to be used with MYEG, GSC e-ticketing and etc, dats what matters, popularity amongst citizens

In terms of prestige, OCBC does not lose out to other foreign banks.
That is true !

QUOTE(chemistry @ Sep 16 2010, 12:23 PM)
Due to low profile in Malaysia many our citizens do not realize how 'big' OCBC is. Perhaps the most they know is the number of branches in Malaysia.
That is true but biasalah laugh.gif

It is also the second largest bank in Southeast Asia in terms of capitalization. It is even stronger than our government backed Maybank biggrin.gif

Today I check my UOB cc.
They suddenly increase my credit limit from 3k to 6k
Maybe they know that i going to cancel this card while the GST due!

But, i cannot cancel this principle card, as my suppliment card,
they are currently run EPP plan, which still got 10 months to finish the installment.

Actually i want to know how the bank can earn from credit card.
The bank only approve whom with good record, if all pay on time then they wouldn't not earn from card holder.
Some more bank promotion for cash back......

merchants need to pay some amount to the bank whenever u use the card.

that why some merchants will charge u 2% / 5% on top of your purchase if you use creditcard.

FYI. According to BNM, merchants are not allowed to impose surcharge on customers who wish to pay by credit card. Please read my attachment.

Competitions are stiff in LYplaza. Perhaps they squeeze their profit margin to the maximum in order to offer the best price.
Depends on the situation lor. If the price after adding 2% is still cheaper than other shop, then go for it.

I bet most merchants dare not to put an item "credit card surcharge" in the bill because they know they'll get penalty if customers go to complain.

Some merchants in overseas like China even impose 6% surcharge. I would either walk away or pay by cash if I come across these merchants.

Does the Shell card really gives you 1.5% cash rebate for other transactions? That rate is not too bad. Is there a monthly cash reabate cap for the Shell Card?
*
You need to carry forward balance in order to get the cash back. In the end, the interest you pay is bigger than the cash back you get.

Anyone receive offer letter from SCB on pre approved prefered banking and prefered world mastercard ?

(1) For prefered banking:
(i) maintain 72k deposit/investment, or
(ii) 400k house loan, or
(iii) annual income 72k, take up prefered world mastercard and open M2 account.

(2) prefered world mastercard:
(i) 2 years annual fee waiver
(ii) 30k choice point upon first use (to complement govt tax)

Since gold and plat cc is too common, any comment on this cc?
*
The benefit is not very attractive. It gives 1% cash back for all transactions if you monthly spending exceeds RM1,500 in total. With this cash back feature, no reward points will be given. One good thing is that there is no limit to the total cash back per month or annum.

My application for this card has been approved. I applied for it because I will perform a big swipe this month. The merchant does not accept Amex and my current SCB JustOne and OCBC Titanium come with cash back limit.

I only used my OCBC cc in overseas recently. I did however withdraw money via my Alliance debit card. I shall be able to make a simple comparison when the transactions are updated next few days.

I have just enter into workforce as a freshgrad, I am earning about RM2.5k per month, I am planning to apply a credit card after about 3 months of working, just a classic mastercard will do.

Besides payslips, what need to be supplied? I am new in workforce, I don't pay income tax yet, and not yet have EA form. Can I request for EA form after just 3 months of working in a company?

In general, is it possible to apply for principal card after just 3 months of work life? Anyway is CIMB card good or not?

no my main point is that possible to apply any credit card with just 3 months of working period? I don't mind the low credit limit as long as it is the card with 16 digits printed on it with either master or visa logo

The 2%, 2.5%, 3% commission paid by the merchant to the bank is shared by 3 parties namely the card issuing bank, the card processing terminal provider bank and VISA International/MasterCard International.

Speaking of China, i really hope they will start issuing UnionPay card here in Malaysia. It makes payment in China much more convenient. BOC has started issuing UnionPay credit card in Singapore for quite sometime already.

You should try at the bank that your salary is currently paid into. Maybank for instance, always approve an annual fee free credit card to those whose salary is paid into Maybank every month.
