my cardmember agreement reads 0% instead and i never got a new one from them either or any sort of notification that this has changed. so it might be possible that a) they honour their old agreement or b) i calculate wrongly wink.gif

The bank reserves the rights to amend its T&Cs anytime without notifying customers.

QUOTE(zenquix @ Aug 20 2010, 11:21 AM)
Thanks for the info. I am holding a plat as well  (my card is more than a year old) so this case of double standards is another nail in the coffin. I guess I am not alone in the case of high charges since it has been reported by winner several times. The fact that it is higher than Amex  doh.gif
*
There was no double standards. I was Alliance PB customer but the currency conversion done on my Visa Platinum seemed to be a bit high compared with other cards. And now, I have terminated my PB account as well as the Visa Platinum with Alliance last week. I was disappointed as Alliance rejected my request to compensate me with 10,000 points for the RM50 service tax which will be charged next month.

QUOTE(zenquix @ Aug 20 2010, 12:09 PM)
I know what you mean. Oh well, if i get the OCBC Titanium card, might just cancel this.
*
This OCBC Titanium MC comes timely as a replacement to my Alliance Visa Platinum which has just been cancelled last week. I have just submitted the application to OCBC HQ today, and hopefully I will get the card next week.

winner, I am surprised that you closed your PB with Alliance. They are offering 3.3% for 1 year FD presently and Debit card gets 2% cash rebate.

From your previous posts you do seem to spend a lot and therefore should be getting max rebate per month at RM68+, that's RM18 more a month than OCBC RM50/month which works out to be RM216/year and after deducting RM50 for GST still get RM166 more than OCBC Titanium and that's not including the reward points (can get up to 60,000 points if spend RM5K/monthly which gets you about RM200 JJ shopping vouchers).

Than again, you got Just One  thumbup.gif

In my opinion Alliance Plat is a pretty good card (not considering the CS which can be damn lousy depending on who is attending to you) if one spends about RM5K/month.
*
I was rather disappointed with Alliance as when I requested an alternative incentive from them pertaining to the service tax, they immediately said NO without any hesitation. In the end, I cancelled my Alliance Visa Platinum and closed the premium account. Anyway, I downgraded the Premium debit card to Platinum debit card, and I still can get 1.5% cash back from the Platinum debit card instead of 2% rebate from the Premium debit card.

Besides, with the fresh yearly cash back from SCB JustOne, I don't need Alliance anymore, at least for the time being.

winner,

they really treated you bad. i would complain if i were you - call the complaints dep and make some noise esp. why on earth they made you leave.

but the card is still the best in terms of cashback. if you always hover on or above 5k spending you get 68.75 monthly cashback + points. 21,800 pts = 100 cash voucher so you end up around 1,100 cash back annually. i didnt manage to find a better deal so far.
*
It's OK, as I had have the intention to downgrade my Alliance Privilege Banking Premium debit card to Alliance Personal Platinum debit card long ago. Reason being I hardly utilised the debit card, as I still prefer credit over debit. Also, I transferred the money to other kind of investment which could give higher returns in the short to medium term.

I do agree that Alliance's cash back per month or per year is thus far the highest in the market. I also benefited from the maximum cash back received, i.e., RM68.78 for many many months. However, if I did not spend RM5,000 per month on Alliance Platinum cc, the amount of cash back was insignificant. Further, there are not many interesting stuffs that can be redeemed under Alliance's reward programme. The points required for redemption are also rather high compared with Amex, MBB, SCB and CIMB.

This card is bundled with the just launched Standard Chartered Preferred Banking package. Just go to SCB website to find out more. All the informations are there.
*
To me, this SCB World MC's benifits are not very attractive. The only good thing is the 2x points for monthly spending of more than RM1,500. I wanted to apply for it as I am going to perform an extremely huge swipe end of this month.

I went to a Standard Chartered branch this morning, intending to apply for their World MC. It was rather irritating that the branch couldn't take my application as they have yet to receive the official forms from their HQ. Also, they didn't know much about this new product. What a shame!

Alliance Bank just won some brownie points with me. Their access to the KLIA plaza premium lounge is now without quota smile.gif
*
Yes, all Alliance Platinum credit and debit cardholders can now enter KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge with no entry limits per month. The quota had been removed about 2 months ago.

If i'm not mistaken, there is a cap for how many 2x Points you can get. Do check it out.
*
According to the CS officer, there is no limit to the 2x choice points, i.e., if I swipe RM50k in a month, I will get 100k points.

I need the 2x points next month urgently as the merchant does not accept Amex (which gives 2x points for local purchase).

If you are a new HLB cardholder, you still need to fork out your own money to settle the first year service tax. Further, HLB Visa Essential is not included in this promotion as this card is purely cash back based without being given any points.

I faxed in the Titanium card application Wednesday last week after 5pm, checked yesterday it was sent out on Wednesday this week (exactly 5 working days to process as informed by OCBC CS) but yet to received it today as Selangor holiday.

Satisfied with the CL assigned to my account, but then again comes next year the CL is not much of use since rebate capped at RM50 a month only and therefore CL of RM2K more than enough. Going to take advantage of the interest free period until end of year tho.
*
I purposely submitted my application by hand to OCBC HQ at Jalan Tun Perak last Friday. Yesterday I called up OCBC hotline to check the application status, I was informed they were still processing my application. It's been 7 days already.

QUOTE(Dannyl @ Aug 28 2010, 02:01 PM)
Don't think Platinum highest is 30k so low.  According to the chart below, silver card can already reach 30k.
*
That's true. When I was still with CitiGold last time, my RM told me the highest CL for Citibank Malaysia was RM450k.

QUOTE(JamesPond @ Aug 28 2010, 03:40 PM)
Which bank giving free GST subsidize?
As far as I know:-

1. SCB, free 11000 bonus point to redeem.
2. OCBC, spend 10k per year.
3. EON, spend 24 times per year.
4. AM bank, join BT or EPP to waive.

how's alliance? MBF? Maybank? RHB?
*
HLB has also recently joined the generous group by giving free 12,000 points annually for 3 years.

Alliance and MBB do not give service tax reimbursement. For them, they would rather lose customers than simpy giving free points.

Correct, I just realize that both principal and supplementary card share the total cash back..
*
SCB JustOne Titanium MC (no longer being issued) is better as cash rebates for both principle and supplementary cards are separated. Besides, principle cardholder can have up to 6 supplementary cards and each card can enjoy RM600 cash back per annum.

dausan2003,

As we have mentioned over and over again here, one could not trust 100% what cc sales personnel promise, unless it is an official statement from the bank.

You should be aware that service tax is immediately charged upon card approval and activation. Further, as far as I know, MBB has never granted any free points for cardholders to offset the service tax.

I never trust all promises from cc sales personal and even CS officers. I always refer to the T&Cs and official statements from the respective bank.

Alliance - access to KLIA no limit.
Citibank Premier Miles - worldwide airport lounge twice a year (saw thier website need to apply before hand).
*
Apart from KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge, you may include other major airport lounges in Malaysia such as Plaza Premium Lounge in LCCT and JB. Most of the Platinum cards issued in Malaysia can only grant free access to KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge only, not the lounges in LCCT and JB.

QUOTE(Gen-X @ Sep 1 2010, 12:31 AM)
haha, anyway do you know which card issued in Malaysia allows one access to airport lounges worldwide?
*
SCB VI through Priority Pass and Amex Platinum charged card at most of the lounges worldwide.

If your documents are complete and you are qualified for the card, the bank will not call you for verification. For instance, OCBC did not call me and my application is successful.

SCB gotta revamp the way they do this contest.
*
Perhaps your entry won you main prizes such as TV or notebook? For your information, I sent the sms after 10am on 2/8. And this time around, I forgot to send the sms in the morning and I only sent it at 3pm, 2/9. I am pretty sure I won't get the main prize.

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Sep 5 2010, 01:33 AM)
LOL ! I think this is the case in many of their branches. Out of 3 of the HLB branches in Kota Kinabalu, 2 of the branches have cheque deposit machine only but as you pointed out. It is located inside the banking hall and we may only use it during office hours and the other one, which is located inside the city is the only HLB branch to offer cash and cheque deposit machines  doh.gif
*
You'll be surprised that even in KL, a lot of old HLB branches do not have cheque deposit machines outside the banking halls, e.g. HLB branch near Jalan Imbi, Jalan Puchong and Maju Shopping Centre, Medan Tuanku area, just to name a few. HLB seems not bother to upgrade their operations. Besides, most banks have employed security guards at their ATM machines at night but I do not see any HLB branches have this security feature. This shows how stingy HLB is and it's truly a typical China man company.

Another funny thing is that I do not hold any HLB CCs but HLB still sent me a message lately indicating that there is a SEPECIAL PROMOTION for limited period, where customers are allowed to use 25,000 points to redeem cash rebate of RM100. What the hell! With 25,000 points, we can easily redeem vouchers or other things worth more than RM100. Also, to redeem RM100 cash, other banks such as Amex and SCB require only 20,000 points.

QUOTE(David83 @ Sep 5 2010, 09:19 AM)
What's the point of installing the CDM inside the banking hall! doh.gif
*
It's because HLB is so stingy and this so-called cash-rich bank is not willing to spend money to upgrade the branches. Most of the branches have been operating in the premises for ages.

QUOTE(jack2 @ Sep 5 2010, 01:56 PM)
The current model of HL Bank is targeting those old uncle and aunties that do not know how to use self service machine. That is why until today, the bank is the last one who is upgrading slowly.

As I can see, their customers are chinese businessman that have "relationship" with bank manager.  When the customers reached the bank, ahead to counter and the staff or manager will greet them and the chinese customers asked them to help them fill out the slip for cash deposit, cash withdrawal or cheque deposit.

Takkan the businessman don't know how to fill meh?

And the branch that I dealt with previously, their CDM and cheque deposit machines were located inside the bank. Thus, you can use only at banking hour.

I closed off my cc with them since they had long queue every day. People worked slow and everything slow motion.
*
Smart move. biggrin.gif Close ALL their accounts. I once had car loan, housing loan, credit card, current account, savings accounts, insurance and fixed deposit with HLB, I have now closed all the accounts except the home loan because of the 5-year lock-in period.

It's better to apply for this card fast and lock in the future profit first before OCBC stops issuing this card due to overwhelming response. SCB JustOne card is a good example.

I received a WORLD CARD by invitation from Maybank; anybody knows what is the minimum credit limit ? becoz my current maybank amex limit is 50k , i was told that the limit for world card would be in range of 100-200k, and the call centre informed me that my new limit would be raised to 100-200k range, is this true ? however 1 big disadvantage is the annual fee....1k for normal 1.5k with klia lounge access !!! but annual fee would be charged only at the end of 1st yr. However gov tax rm50 is upfront  mad.gif
*
For World MC or VI, getting a CL of at least RM100,000 is not abnormal.

Most of the World MCs issued in Malaysia allow you to enter KLIA Plaza Premium Lounge ONLY. In fact, worldwide airport lounges access is much more useful, as it does help when you have a long waiting period for transit. Also, if your company let you travel on first or business class, you are already guaranteed for airport lounge access and therefore you do not need to show your own card.
