Some desc of the game

From the makers of Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Baldur's Gate comes Dragon Age: Origins, an epic tale of violence, lust, and betrayal. The survival of humanity rests in the hands of those chosen by fate. You are a Grey Warden, one of the last of an ancient order of guardians who have defended the lands throughout the centuries. Betrayed by a trusted general in a critical battle, you must hunt down the traitor and bring him to justice. As you fight your way towards the final confrontation with an evil nemesis, you will face monstrous foes and engage in epic quests to unite the disparate peoples of a world at war.

Face The Golems of Amgarrak In The Next Dragon Age DLC

user posted image

QUOTE
While fans wait for next year's Dragon Age II, BioWare continues to pump out the downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins, uncovering the ancient secrets of the dwarves' magical constructs in Golems of Amgarrak.

Due out August 10, Golems of Amgarrak sends the player character and his party deep into the underground in search of a dwarven expedition that went missing while searching for the secrets behind golem creation. It's a high-level adventure that promises great challenges, great rewards, and a new terrifying creature to stab, beat, and spell to death.

At this rate, BioWare should have players adventuring right up to the release of Dragon Age II.

They will do it for the late comers. Don't worry. No reason for them not to do it as long as they have cleared current stock because the sequel is only next March!

DA's graphics still look good to me. This coming from a guy who adores Crysis.

DA has relatively few quality mods, unlike Oblivion since the game has been phenomenal from day one. Very few quirks.

Among the mods most noteworthy are,

1) Extra Dog Slot (You get an extra companion)

2) White Teeth for NPCs (vanilla ones are rotten)

3) DA Modder (Mod manager)

4) Better Sex Cutscenes (self explanatory)

My only gripe with the game is that everyone runs like a gorilla. Bioware needs to sharpen up their animation skills. And also less Fed-Ex quests.

Ah... I was hoping that the graphic would not be too advanced... or my laptop won't be able to handle it...

Bash lock is a good mods in my opinion... or Skip the fade... More hairstyles... Natural Body for the pervs... Leliana face mods... The white teeth... I thought they have some sort of conflict with DA Awakening?

Dragon Age Nexus is a good place to find the mods for DAO..

Some of the textures are so bad (low res) in the game like the tent, floor, etc. The expression and body gestures are kinda aesthetic. Assassin's Creed 2 animations are great. It's so natural and fluid when you witness the motion of a character's hand when they talk. Compare that with Dragon Age and you get the picture..

Also i find that the elements(fire/ice/poison) kind of break immersion for me as you see those dagger with fire burning effects on your back when in conversation. The helmet thingy was kinda irritating too. I tried the no helmet mod too but seems to me it has some bugs... Most of the time it does not re-equip after conversation and you lose the helmet armor bonuses.

Am not looking for crysis 2 graphics but i don't know .. AC2 or PoP:TFS graphics looks fine though.

And finally the romance and sex scenes... Well if they wanted to do it right.. It's best they go all the way like The Witcher did. I felt it was really bad on the sex scenes tbh.

Don't forget the weapons.... very bland.... really disappointed with the weapons looks as well as how they cling to the back...

But... then again characters are very interesting... and I mean characters from DA origins... I kind of look past the presentations... Alistair,Morrigan,Leliana and heck.. Oghren fun as well... DA awakening characters well... I haven't finish it yet... Trying... But put it aside after encountering the first mage who said "I didn't do that" sad.gif wtf for a while... not funny...

Hey.... I saw Flemeth name in DA 2 in DA wiki... She lived... Nutty old bat...

I've killed Flemeth once, I'll kill her again. Oooo...witch of the wilds.

Which reminds me, what news of her daughter. That sneaky witch thief is impregnated with my kid.

P/S - There's one thing I didn't like about DA Awakening, it treats The Joining and the Rite of Conscription like a casual affair. The damn chalice is now passed around like a soda. Its supposed to be serious and dramatic.

I killed her on every origins I've Played.. It's fun to fight a dragon which only appear three times in the games...

I was thinking that the child would be a key role in the sequel of the dragon age.... But then again if Morrigan isn't impregnated... how the hell the story would go... But the writers said we haven't seen the last of Morrigan... So she might appear in DA 2... or If the writers fell down stairs and hit their heads Flemeth would be Inside Morrigan...

Have you look at the new Qunari in DA 2? They got horns now...

yea, Many are upset with the Joining options in DA awakening... Incompetent new commander...

I'm curious how the story goes if the player's warden is the queen consort...

Haha, Morrigan was impregnated by Loghain when I played through the 2nd time. It will be interesting to see how the sequel will address all these outcomes. Probably some will be disregarded. Damn funnyla, if you marry Queen Anora, then Loghain becomes your father-in-law haha.

Maybe in DA2 the PC will have to battle the Qunari since Sten mentioned that an invasion by his people is possible. Fear the Beresaad!! I wouldn't be surprised if Shale sticks by him in such a scenario. They both adore each other LMAO!!

Yeah, came across heaps of people at the bioware forum that the Joining is treated lackadaisically in Awakening.

But somehow they, the writers, justified that Ferelden is the only country in Thadus who are short of G. Wardens, thus the ritual has to be encourage to promote more numbers of these Wardens, so meaning no time to do those 'Test of Valor' before the Joining.
Plus they explained that Awakening is taking place in the "Thaw" (meaning: the event of sweeping out Darkspawn after a Blight) which most of these 'warriors' are eligible enough for the Joining because they might have killed enough Darkspawn to be qualified, I suppose.

BTW, I use a MOD so that my female warden can impregnate Morrigan tongue.gif
I didn't want her to die after killing the Archdemon because I think I created a pretty alright character, plus can import it to Awakening and straight away play the 'Nightmare' difficulty.

Lol... that could be one of the plot..

It seems the sequel is entirely about how a survivor of the blight rise up to be a champion... No mention so far... Will he even be a warden?... and it's a high chance that he/she will meet with Alistair as king or the Queen consorts...

The warden mage who choose to stay at the circle might become the first enchanter... Then A likelihood to be mention or met is high as well...

Encountering morrigan... Sten... leliana is nice too...

Well speculation is a speculation... Got to wait for the trailer and more news...

On the other note... since it's a new engine and gameplay... A mount system is a nice addition to have... Never seen a horse in DA origins although there's mention that horse is uses as transportation for human...

And a fully voice character... ahh... how long I've waited for that...

...Or you could import your character from DA:O instead playing as this 'Hawke' guy...in Awakening, its too easy to be a Warden that I don't think it will take him long enough to be.. rolleyes.gif

I speculate that, if there will be an encounter with Morrigan in the squeal, it won't be a friendly one, bearing in mind she has a demi~god for a child for f' sakes, and 10 years (timeline between DA 1 and 2) should get her going with her evil plans. drool.gif

And the trailer, for sure it won't be a direct depiction of the game, more like a promotional trailer like that 'Sacred Ashes' one...which got me hooked to play the game btw laugh.gif

Hmm... As far as I read the news, theres no mention about importing previous character from the prequel, Only importing the consequences' been made.

http://social.bioware.com/forums/forum/1/t...index/3056428/1

So Hawke is our guy.

Well, with morrigan... it could only be a brief camoe, like meeting her at a crosscroad and been given a random quest then poof.

Or.... Flemeth recruit the guy to track down Morrigan... in Origin, Morrigan ask player to kill flemeth, In II, it could be the other way around....

Sacred Ash trailer is awesome.... Wish the sequel could be like that...

Alright my bad, months ago they claimed you can transfer even the character rclxub.gif

Now they say:
QUOTE
Dragon Age 2 allows the player to import saves from any completed Dragon Age: Origins playthrough. So, while you may be controlling a different character in Dragon Age 2, the choices your Grey Warden made in Origins are still imported from your save and reflected in the world [4]. Choices from Awakening will also be imported

Yeah, enough of the old character anyways, new game gotta have new folks for sure biggrin.gif

So this means you can't customized the character in the Sequel right? Or at least the physical attributes only like Mass Effect with Commander Shepard?

Hmmm, a human only PC named Hawke (either male or female). No more dwarfs or elves I guess.

I gonna miss the classic dialogue tree system. The new dialogue wheel system feels too simplified and console-like.

I believe is Hawke is the last name of the character... So it can be either female or male and i read somewhere the character will be fully customizable... I mean the appearance and what class he would be in... maybe the only thing that can't be choose is race.

http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/141/index/3285119/1

Hmm... Still can't make solid prediction with little information... But maybe karma system will be a feature as well..

Just completed DA Awakening. Took me 22 hours to finish all the quests.

The companions in the expansion are forgettable except Anders. He's like a cross between Alistair and Zevran.

Oh ya, Ser Pounce-a-lot can be used to revive fallen party members. How cute! I was wondering what would happen the first time I activated the kitten.

I was puzzled what on earth the kitten is for sweat.gif
Nice to know it can do something as major and purposeful as party revival. notworthy.gif

22 hours is not too bad for an expansion pack, the main game took me nearly 90 hours to complete.. laugh.gif

Nah, its EA's policy.

As a subsidiary company to EA, their hands are tied.

[Citation needed]

There are plenty of EA subsidiaries that don't produce on a (bi)yearly basis like Criterion, DICE, Maxis, etc. So its hardly a standard policy made by EA.

Actually, AFAIK, only their Sports division has this policy (For obvious reasons) and it usually only applies to game series, not developers. Plus, only Activision made it a real policy, I don't remember EA ever saying anything of the sort.

Dragon Age 2 to be released March 8, 2011 in US
Posted Aug 17th 2010 11:45AM by John Callaham
Filed under: RPG, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2

It's going to be another busy first quarter of the year in 2011. There's already a ton of major game releases slated for that period and today it got another AAA title. VG247.com reports that Electronic Arts has just announced from its Gamescom press conference that Dragon Age 2, the fantasy RPG sequel from BioWare, is getting a March 8, 2011 release date here in the US. Europeans will be getting the game, as usual, a few days later on March 11, 2011.

Other major games already slated for a first quarter 2011 release include Crysis 2, Portal 2, Homefront, Bulletstorm, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Brink and many more.

Sorry for not explaining.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioWare#Games

Their schedule is voluntary, but it's been pretty regular. I believe this is a trend of sorts following in the footsteps of Insomniac Games.

Narrator definitely Flemeth in my opinion yar.

I can't really get excited by the trailer though.

Random "bad guy with stupidly huge claymore and spiky hair" hero, check
Half assed hard rock as music, check
Demon-looking enemy with horns, check (actually people are saying it's the new look of Qunaries...)
"When I get angry, my eyes get red!", check
etc.

It's an ok trailer for a teenager audience, with the rock and all, but really does not make me excited about the game itself, or remind me of the DAO universe

Half reminded me about Witcher intro though, not as cool and well done though.

Yes the devs themselves have said he is not the son of....... Also the timeline of the game means that the baby would have to grow up alarmingly fast since this is around the same time of the first game, just a different place in the world.

Hum, true, I thought it was supposed to happen "later" like maybe 20 years or something, which would have still been ok since the dude does not look very old.
Or I wouldnt have put past the child mother or grandmother to have Haxxored him to grow faster really...

Never mind then, would have been cool if it was though, would have also explained why they removed the ability to play something else than a Human.

Edit: didnt look like he was holding it like it was a spear or a polearm though, my first impression was of a huge unrealistic claymore (that is also super thin obviously), will watch again though.

It's more of a polearm I'd say, since the blade is one sided.

Here are the things that we know fo'sho. From the Dragon age wiki
http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Age_2

Key Features
You play as the human character 'Hawke' who may be male or female.
The game takes place across a decade and shapes itself around decisions made.
New combat mechanics designed to put the player in the heart of battle whether they are a mage, rogue, or warrior.
A new cinematic experience.
Updated graphics and a new visual style.
There will be opportunities for romance.

There's not even a hint of the timeline except for the fact that you're apparently a survivor of the Blight.

"Dragon Age 2 thrusts players into the role of Hawke, a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age. Known to be a survivor of the Blight and the Champion of Kirkwall,"

This is sort of disturbingly similar to Mass Effect.

"Mass Effect thrusts players into the role of Shepard, a human who rises to power to become a Spectre in the world of Mass Effect. Known to be a survivor/hero/blah blah blah of the Skyllian Blitz,"

Need to see more of DA2,though.

I dunno. The trailer didn't tell much. Looks set to be the same old bioware rpg formula.

Clear x number of areas to gain allies/party members
Romance somebody
Clear x number of areas to gain allies/party members
Love Scene
Big Showdown
Wait for sequel

Ok, at least I wasnt the only one who got a bit confused with the weapon and the way he uses it.
It does looks like a polearm after looking more, but he does not use it like one.

I compare it a bit to the japanese naginata, but even this has piercing attack

Well, no point going into an argument, let's just call it a "pointy-slashy stick" and be done with it tongue.gif

Trailer was ok for an action trailer really, but the style was a bit too much Final Fantasy-like for the DAO style in my opinion and didnt really made me say "oh yeah, this is DAO universe!", but trailers for DAO1 werent exactly that great to get an impression of the game either.

Me playing as rouge..question is, wat does the critical chance of weapons do? Is it chance that a critical strike will hit? Im a rouge constantly doing backstabs, so how does this "chance" play a role? Or is this chance a multiplyer to critical damage?

Yar, I want, but if it's a simple "bash bash bash darkspawn" for 45 minutes, then few sentences from Morrigan, then a final fight against her, then "the End", I might have prefered they didnt bothered and left it open ended...

See how it goes anyway, I will wait for reviews.

DA2 trailer is prolly arcane warrior / blood mage.

weapon+armor, some hex thing on the baddie's head, fire blast thing, then blood magic with the dragon hands move.

i played arcane warrior and spirit healer specialisation in origins and awakening
the hardest boss i've ever faced is the harvester in amgarrak - kind of resistant to all magics
hahaha...

i've read they'll prolly have flemeth
i wonder which one
the old one or the younger version
hahahaha

the same one.

DA2's story start when the Blight ate up Lothering. Our hero/heroine was fleeing from Lothering. So Flemeth is still alive (aka we don't kill her that early in origins).

DA2 is going to be smaller in scope than DA:O. Oh well, can't have best of both.

But i faced a black screen problem... after killing the Ogre.. the big one... and then i have to light the beacon.

After i do so, the video went black... only sound , so i pres ESC to skip the movie, everything else went black.. but sound still kept on going...

i cant quick save from there... so, i have to Alt-F4 to get back to windows.. i tried everything, restarting, reloading, reduce graphic texture, disable sound.. you name it, i tried it..

Did u try the bioware forums? Perhaps can find help there.
I was thinking is it possible to register the a game before installing? By doing so perhaps you can use the EA downloader instead of the disc.
Just a possible solution, not sure whether it will work.

Dragon Age's Save Imports Are World-Changing

QUOTE
From the Quest for Glory days right through to BioWare's own Mass Effect, role-playing sequels have allowed you to import your old character into the new game. So, uh, how is this going to work for Dragon Age II?

Well, it'll work a little differently, what with you not taking control of the same player. Instead, the world around you will be different.

"We look at it as importing the world really", the game's lead designer Mike Laidlaw tells NowGamer. "I've always seen Dragon Age as a franchise as about more than any one character. It's about entire an entire span of history and the whole world that's affected by what happens."

"So that was our approach and I think the importing stays true to that in the sense that the decisions your Warden made and the person they were all affects Dragon Age II. You know, who's in charge of Ferelden, what happened with the Dwarves, who's running Orzammar? All of these things are reflected and accounted for in Dragon Age II."

I used mods to be able to romance all the characters with the same female character...

NOW I fully expect to see the whole as a huge harem for my character in DA2..... rolleyes.gif

Dragon Age II Preorders Score A Free Signature Edition Upgrade

QUOTE
BioWare is upgrading copies of Dragon Age II preordered before January 11 to the Signature Edition, packed with $20 worth of downloadable content, a soundtrack, and an in-game armory. It's like a preorder bonus, only...okay, it's a preorder bonus.

BioWare is calling it a free upgrade to a collector's edition, but let's call a spade a spade. Giving fans who preorder the game before a certain point extra content is a preorder bonus. That preorder bonus consists of a CD containing the game's soundtrack, a download code for an additional playable character and new missions, and an armory players can access in-game, stocked with various equipment.

It's a preorder bonus. Looking at it another way, it's a way of limiting the value of used copies, much like BioWare and EA did by including downloadable content with new copies of Dragon Age: Origins.

"Over the past 15 years, we've been privileged to have the support of a passionate community of fans, who continue to grow in number with every game we release," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Senior Vice President of Electronic Arts and co-founder and Group General Manager of BioWare. "The BioWare Signature Edition of Dragon Age II is a chance for us to reward loyal fans who pre-order the game by providing them with additional high-quality content for free."

Or I guess you could call it a way to reward loyal fans.

The Dragon Age II Signature Edition will only be available for preorder through January 11. Existing preorders will receive a free upgrade.

Dragon Age II is slated for a March 8 release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

steam's region lock is actually quite easy to bypass.
just add ?cc=us and can liao.

however, steam might lock the account.
use a vpn to solve this.

gamers gate not really nice for games with tons of updates / patches though.
good for games that has no updates.

Ahh. You must have caught them when they were just being posted with the price & region yet to be filtered. Oh well, it makes no difference since a VPN will solve everything for GG. smile.gif

Bought the Ultimate Edition yesterday for RM175. Was wondering if anyone who has bought the Ultimate Edition tell me how to register the game. There is no Ultimate Edition listed under the "register game" menu.
*
I think you just have to register it as dragon age origins and download the DLC's one by one. doh.gif

Erm register the DLC's i mean since I think the content should be in the disk.

Ok...next time I know I will wait for expansion and DLC and get the Ultimate Edition instead. I will still buy DA2 the first week so Bioware can see bigger numbers but I will screw off DLC completely.

I think I will do the same, I have been pretty unexcited by the current trailers of the game too.

Will wait for some collector or GOTY edition on sales in a while, not in a hurry

Dragon Age II Gets A Facebook Tie-In

user posted image
QUOTE
Before you enter the Free Marches in BioWare's Dragon Age II in March, enter them in EA 2D's Facebook strategy role-playing game Dragon Age Legends and unlock phat loot for the main game.

EA 2D augmented the original Dragon Age with Dragon Age Journeys, a browser-based prequel to the award-winning RPG. The studio returns to the world of Dragon Age in February with Dragon Age Legends, a Facebook-based strategy role-playing game that introduces players to the Free Marches, the primary setting for the console and PC sequel.

Players step into the role of one of the most trusted allies of Ravi, the Viscount of Kaiten. When mysterious happenings centered around his son Elton arise, you (and your Facebook friends) are the only one who can save him. You'll go on quests, earn loot, share rewards, grow the kingdom, and hopefully unlock something nice for your Dragon Age II party.

"We are privileged to be working with BioWare to bring the Dragon Age universe to the hundreds of millions of gamers on Facebook," said Mark Spenner, General Manager of EA 2D. "Our goal is to change the perception of social network games and attract new players to the Facebook platform by raising the quality bar. Dragon Age Legends will deliver a deep, sophisticated experience, and we will continue to delight gamers by adding new features and content far into the future."

Players can sign up today at the Dragon Age Legends website to receive info on the beta test for the game. The full Facebook app is expected in February, a month ahead of Dragon Age II.

1) In total, there are about 10 chars and you can only control 4 chars (including yours) at a time (during adventure)

2) Yes

3) See whether your computer meets the minimum requirement here: http://www.yougamers.com/gameometer/10345/

4) I've never played Disciples 3 although I highly recommend you to buy DAO, it's a great game.

Woot! I find it hard to believe when I read it but apparently, TK-Nation is giving away a copy of Dragon Age 2 for free! Of course, there's a catch but heck, I've written way more English essays when I was still schooling. 18 more days to go for me to compose something out of this thick skull of mine.

If you pre-order DA2 at the price of normal edition before January 11 2011 you'll automatically upgraded to signature edition.

Added on December 20, 2010, 2:15 amThing is why won't Steam take pre-order for this game yet?

Hi, I just bought the dragon age: ultimate version from ea store since they have 33% discount. now i'm thinking of pre-order dragon age 2 SE. what bugs me is that i heard if we buy from ea store and download the digital version, they only give us one year to download the game. so after one year if i want to re-download them i have to buy again. anyone experienced something like this?

is it better to wait for normal version on steam? thanks.

I think there is a download limit for EA store. Perhaps you can check their terms and condition.

As for Steam, there is no download limit.

Thank you for your reply. Guess I'll wait for the Steam version to come out. However, EA store sell it a bit more cheaper. S$56.90 compare to Steam that will be USD49.90 or USD59.90 (I guess).

Preorder... I payed at the shop because its nearby for me. Its not really related, but more of a different storyline in the same universe. I think the combat system is also changed but maybe the abilities are the same.

And yes i recommend you try playing DAO. I enjoyed the game. The DLC arent really worth it so just playing the vanilla is good enough icon_rolleyes.gif

Yup... awakening got from my friend.. but it wasnt as nice as DAO vanilla. Its a fun game, just make sure you really like this type of rpg game. You wont miss out on much if you dont play DAO since the story isnt directly related to DA2

You seems to have a very short attention span. Maybe it'd better just to stick to COD then.

If he buy it of course he would research the game first to know what to expect from the game. Maybe I'm wrong though.

It's probably pirated, as if you buy original, you wont put it aside after playing for 15 minutes.

Even the borderline rubbish Sword and Soldier i playyed for half an hour before i stop playing.

It's a pretty nice game, if only it's on mobile phones.

It become such a rubbish game when you play it on PC. I feel scammed, seriously, buying a game like this on a PC.

I just watched the gameplay video for Dragon Age 2.

Did Bioware relaxed the game rule a little bit in this game?

I saw the archer launching bursting arrow and the mage casting firestorm with team mates in the explosion range but they never take damage from those.

DRM for dragon age 2!

QUOTE
Hi everyone

Recently there has been some concern over the DRM (Digital Rights Management) included with Dragon Age 2. Hopefully this post will help clarify what the DRM is for all versions of Dragon Age 2.

Steam versions use Steam DRM, no other DRM is added.

Non-Steam versions (digital or retail disc) are as follows:
- No disc check, you do not need the disc in drive to play.
- No limit on the total number of PCs you can install and play the game on.
- There is a limit to the number of unique/different PCs that can start/play the game within a time window [5 PCs in 24hrs].
- Each install requires logging in to your EA account to verify game ownership and if you are a member of these forums, you have an EA account.
- You can play offline but the game will require a login check after a select period of days.

Release Control (does not use securom)
. It does not install anything to the PC.
. Sole purpose is to check with a server to validate whether the game release date has passed or not.
. It completely removes itself after the game release date has passed.
. You will not be able to play until that date has passed.
. Dates & times are set to the retail street date per country.

Hopefully this explains the DRM included in Dragon Age 2.

If you still have questions, please ask them here. However, this thread is NOT for the general discussion of DRM, the pros and cons of other DRM systems or any talk about circumventing DRM (which is against the rules of conduct and will be diciplined as such). Thanks.

This is good. If EA keep on releasing games without any disc check for retail version, I might start to buy retail again instead of steam.

Anyway, March 8 is the release date so most of us will probably get it on the 9th or 10th (for courier deliveries). Everyone prepare to take leave hehehe (students can skip classes brows.gif )

Those that get the Signature Edition get 1 DLC free. The version was discontinued on 1 January 2011 (1-11-11) and I doubt TSB got any extra but it won't hurt to call and ask.

After looking at the gameplay, if they allow 4 players co-op mode with each player select 1 char from their single player game group or create 1 char that they want to control and form a group to play the campaign, this game could just be the game of the century.

dao is challenging at times, but it's not impossible. my friend have even beaten the Gaxkang (said to be the hardest boss in the game) on hard difficulty and he didn't even use any cheat nod.gif .
my advice is try experimenting with new techniques and strategy. if you keep failing then there's must be something wrong somewhere, it could be your char build, combo or anything.

Dragon Age players, this is your call to arms! We need one million players of the Dragon Age 2 demo and we want you to rally the troops to reach this monumental goal. Tell your friends, tell your family, talk about it on Facebook, Twitter, talk about it at school and at work. We want One Million downloads of the Dragon Age 2 demo and we need you to rally the troops to reach this goal.

If we reach One Million downloads, we will reward players with 2 new in-game items the Lothering’s Lament and Far Cliffs of Kirkwall tomes. And don’t forget, anyone who completes the demo will get the in-game item Hayden’s Razor. All 3 items will be available on all platforms for Dragon Age 2.

We need you to rally your troops and heed this call to arms!

actually, it's the german version of the demo, which got leaked yesterday. Funny, I'm guessing the same guy who leaked the Crysis 2 beta also leaked this demo.

and more screens

@tech_frix: from the demo, it is clear that the warrior can do some serious damage (even against groups, gotta love the gore-fest when using the whirlwind skill). Seems like they've balanced the classes out

your main is warrior, so the other warrior is he a tank or your main is the tank?

then the mage, who? morrigan or that old lady? i dont like that old lady (she has her uses) but i would recommend using morrigan for crowd control/offensive spells.

rouge i would assume that girl,

if i were you i faster spam the rouge to either dual weird or bow, they are both good but if you have two warriors then take a bow rouge and spam that.

owh and study that potion making thing, spam potions

and you are good to go

the game encourage a good mix of party. i always have 1 tank, 1 rogue, 1 mage and the other anyone that i want for romance. anyhow rogue and mages the most devastating that i found.

tanks are good to draw agro and the purpose is just to tank. rogue/archers/mages can flank. play the game in normal. previously pre 1.04 patch rogue gets no bonus damage from dex which they should have. i won the game at normal difficulty even with no dex bonus.

How dare you forget Wynne? tongue.gif

I swap around my teammates alot, if only to hear them converse during certain part of the game. Alistair and Morrigan always win.

Anyways, warrior can be good damage dealer. My epic 2H Sten will like to have a word to anyone who disagrees. (He deals even more damage than me as a Mage).

The demo for DA2 is out already guys...here's a gameplay video:

graphics seem mostly the same...but I'm really looking forward to this one...runs concurrently to Dragon Age : Origins, Flemeth is still alive and makes a reference to the Grey Wardens from DAO...quite clever really...would be really interesting to see how decisions in DAO affect DA2

the graphics for the demo is locked at high :/ and for those wondering, DX11 is available (I did post screens of the German demo a few days back)

unless of course they gimped out on the English version and decided to lock it to Medium instead, in which I laugh HA-HA. (Though really, the only difference between Medium and High from what I can tell is motion blur, and the ability to turn on SSAO)

mmm, I suppose cloud shadows will be available at Very High, coz I definitely didn't notice any of that at High. I wonder what else will be "available" at Very High, tessellation? I think the game needs a higher texture pack more than effects, really.

Played it and the demo was okay. Basically lets you play a portion of the prologue then skips to further into the game.

The combat will probably get split opinions . Personally i played a rogue and liked it a lot. Its fast, flashy and rather fun. Camera controls felt a bit weird though since the button to rotate the camera overlaps with the attack button which is right mouse click .(or maybe its just my mouse sensitivity too high). Other than that the background in the first prologue area (the one that was criticized to no end) was rather bland. Then again maybe its just the first area.

PS: I advised anyone who wants to dl the demo to do it using steam. The bioware webbie link always times out on me and i can't ever resume it using IDM.

PS.2 : Playtime is around an hour.

---

EDIT 3 :

Anyone know where i can still get the signature edition for the PC? Ugh, wished i POed it ealier doh.gif

A question regarding Bioware points. Usually where you guys bought it?

I clicked the link from Bioware Social and the price is USD20 for 1600 points. But when I visit EA Store Singapore I saw they put the price at SGD27.80. So anyone bought it from EA Store before?

Can you comment on how you found the gameplay etc? It seems to be a sorta hack and slash...and everything seems to be tailored to suit consoles so it looks a bit simplified...seems a bit disappointing though...the gameplay reminds me of the LOTR Return of the King game...more suited to consoles than PC

it's still point-and-click for the PC, but the action is slick and stylish in a way. You still have the option of pausing and taking a tactical approach, of course.

Agree on some points. SOme old women still have big boobs which doesnt make sense. Silicon boobs enlargement already got in dragon age era?

I really cant comment much about it. Character design disable, inventory disable and Very High setting disable.

The combat is too fast paced (I really dont wanna finsih this game so fast). The speed on DA1 is good.
DX11 i think is insanely bugged in demo. Lagging to hell with no major different from DX9.

Text speech i still like ME2 style more.

Played the demo as a 2 handed warrior, learned something new, huge sword=weightless tongue.gif .....would be awesome if they put a little more weight into the 2 hand animation.....but it's fast and responsive and that's all that matters..i guess

if there's one thing that's bad about the demo,it's the fact that i still haven't got the free blade yet and it's been 3 hours since i finish the demo..... sad.gif

I managed to finish one playthrough of the DA2 demo before I left for work. I did it with a 2H warrior as my main. Below are my opinions on this demo.

Pros:
- Moves are more responsive.
- Combat is fast paced, violent and visceral.
- Minimalist UI.
- Same old stuff.
- Art style.

Cons:
- No more tactical view.
- UI is very minimal without any artful design.
- Tactics screen was a little bugged.
- Art style is too clean that on some areas, it looks empty.

FYI,

The 1st battle supposedly to show that hawke is the "ultimate warrior" as the dwarf is exaggerating the story. Hence the godlike speed and fluidity.

FYI,

The 1st battle supposedly to show that hawke is the "ultimate warrior" as the dwarf is exaggerating the story. Hence the godlike speed and fluidity.

penterghast's voice acting seems a bit wooden though...and it will be really interesting to see how things run alongside the DAO story, since both are meant to happen at the same time...perhaps you might run into some familiar faces at Denerim like Alistair and maybe your own character from DAO? (Since information is imported...)

I can't believe this...DA2 just blew everything away. The combat, the graphics, the gameplay...It's like medieval ME. Loving it. This is what DAO should've been. Can't wait for DA2 to arrive now. 2 weeks seem like a very long time.

Before the the demo i was like.......2H swords is awesome, look at it's size!!!,then i played the demo as an archer and i don't want to play as any other class anymore...like the fact that i can wipe an area clean with hails of arrows and exploding arrows while still having the ability to melee the enemies at close range and back flip out of of harm ways if things gets too dangerous ... thumbup.gif

Meanwhile on Bioware forum someone ask ....

Am I the only that think that Archery is finally buffed up to be a viable playstyle now?

In DA1 even with mods and adjustments the DA community was still complaining on how underpowered the Archery tree was. At least now It's sorta badass tongue.gif

I used archery in DA1 and I thought it was pretty badass though...often I could kill an ogre before it could touch me...to keep with my style of play I'll probably use a rogue archer as well (mostly so that I can open up those pesky early-game locked chests/doors etc...remember how sucky it was to be a warrior and not be able to lockpick/bash the locked chests??)

I have a few concerns about DA2 though. For one Hawke seems to swing a big heavy sword rather easily...and the animation for sword and shield seemed to only be 'stab, stab, stab'...hmmm

edit " hosts" with word pad or whatever and search for entries with "ea.com" and delete them

It's ok if you never played the original. It is not like Mass Effect whereby your actions from previous game would affect the current game...at least that's what is on the FAQ. But you'll understand more of the lore and what's happening. Isabella & Flemeth are from the first game.

Dragon Age server temporarily unavailable. WTF? I won the demo. Hoping to unlock extra item in the full game.

To those who are having Connetion to DA servers can try this

C:\\\\Windows\\\\System32\\\\drivers\\\\etc

edit " hosts" with word pad or whatever and search for entries with "ea.com" and delete them

remember to make a backup before changing anything

Its more action oriented now with less dialogue. I hate the dialogue wheel.

Feels like playing Diablo la hahaha.

The warrior class has been refined and is more deadly. Attack speed with 2 handed weaopn has been relatively hastened.

And Flemeth is just like Drizzt whereby both simply won't die.

Yep. I killed the bas**** while he was ambushed by gnolls in Cloakwood but he still appears in BG2.

He apparently forgotten but a swift blade into the drow's chest reminded him of our encounter hehehehe.

OMG how the Hell u managed to kill him.. he was godlike in BG..i used a character editor in my 2nd playthrough and used his weapons (dual scimitars, forgot the name) to kill him, in BG2 he and his party appeared , and was damn tough to kill, one of his party members got a crossbow with unlimited ammo lol

His AC in BG1 was like -20 hahaha. You'd have to kill him using cheesy methods.

In BG2 he was a lot easier to kill. I lowered 2/3 of his health before transforming into the Slayer and mauled him to death. Of course, I was the only one standing, the rest including my party members were dead as ****

Kangaxx the Lich? Ahehehehe. The Ring of Gaxx is one hell of a loot. It was truly "MY PRECIOUS"

That fella like to spam Imprisonment spells haha. He casted that spell 12 times against my berserker. Unfortunately for him, berserkers are immune to imprisonment spells while enraged haha.

I hear you bro, old is gold. Miss those epic rpg moments too.

DA2 is the best we could expect for an epic fantasy RPG in 2011. It feels kinda dumbed down though with that simplistic dialogue wheel.

hmmm yeah i hate the new dialog thing also.

kinda feels like lots of console kiddies complained about the previous dialog system, as if they cannot understand it.

so the new dialog thing is very the simplified liao.

Yep. Another game dumbed down for the consoles.

Now the game feels more like Mass Effect. Dialogue is shortened considerably and the paraphrasing does not truly reflect on what the characters say or how they react.

I have mixed feelings about this game, i hate it and love it at the same time. The fast paced action is fine with mass effect 2, but DA was fine without the flashy moves and combat system. The main character now feels like a cheap rip off from a japanese action game. Characters were more believable in the original, cause it was done that way. We loved it, we ate it up, we treasured it, we bought it, so why cheese the whole IP up by changing game mechanics that were fine?

Agreed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Sadly this is the state of the current crop of CRPGs. The newer generation of gamers (console kiddies) do not appreciate deep and engrossing dialogue, they just want to kill stuff. And for me personally, the amount of blood in DA2 is unnecessarily excessive. I LOLed at the exploding darkspawns. There's just blood all over the place. Whoa. It feels like someone incorporated Fallout 3's Bloody Mess into DA2.

My concern with Witcher 2 is its script. On the other hand, its branching dialogue system is ideal to me smile.gif

In the first game, there were numerous times whereby NPCs would utter the F-bomb and it just seemed kinda awkward and improper for a fantasy game albeit a very dark one.

Anyway, here's a glorious screen shot for all you BLOOD AND GORE lovers muahahahahahaha (Bloody Mess on steroids)

I don't see what's wrong with swearing in a fantasy game. Witcher isn't just some typical goody fairy tales RPG. Great story and decent combat and role playing is what I'm looking for.

I'm fine with DA2's gore but I really dislike the locked camera. At least let me pan around when I zoom out or let me play like Mass Effect where my character don't run away when I accidentally clicked the ground.

At least the gore doesn't look as bad as what Beth made.

I remembered Geralt saying "f*ckin absolutely" or something similar during a casual conversation with a merchant in Vizima and that was just LOL moment for me. To some, it kinda killed the immersion since such a word has never been uttered before in a fantasy game haha. The writers just basically dropped random F-bombs in every conversation. Its like having Hawke say "F*ckin darkspawns! F*** all of them! hahaha

Anyway, to each his own.

One thing I like about DA2 is that Health and Lyrium pots are now universally bound to all characters. That saves me all the trouble.

Furthermore, the animation has been improved. Characters don't run like there's something shoved up their butts.

Actually I think the major gore only happens in the beginning...the part of the tale which Varric intentionally exaggerates...the latter parts seem to have slightly toned down gore I think. The action...sigh...where do I begin...swinging a double handed sword like it was a toothpick...rogues magically disappearing and reappearing...man...they really dumbed it down. The camera was hard to love...but I suppose these are things that I will get used to...just like bows not having a bowstring or everyone having the same undies...oh well...

I like all the changes, the flashy moves, graphics and faster paced of the combat. One thing i agreed is the camera. No tactical view which is crucial for a game like Dragon Age. I believe the camera is just due to demo.

Cons i dislike basically are the friendly fire. It certainly does remove tactical depth in gameplay for me.

Y'know, mechanically the combat doesn't seem that much different from the original DA. I mean sure, it *looks* much more visceral and meaty, but that's about it really. The combat is still slow and deliberate, it *might* still have technical depth (Dunno, since FF is disabled here (In an earlier interview, Bioware said it was only switched off in Easy mode)) and this demo's trying to be all flash and bang with little difficulty so as to appeal to those who thought that the first DA was too hard. If the damage floaters were still there (Disabled in the demo for some reason), it probably wouldn't look so separate from it's predecessor.

I'm liking the dialogue wheel though. The little icons in the middle that represent the type of response is a nice touch and is better than some of the responses in the first DA where the execution of the dialogue completely differed from how it looked like as text.

Complaints are basically that the camera is crap (Making aiming AoE spells a pain at range and tactics associated with it, rubbish), rather dull looking backdrops and Flemeth (That's the hottest GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGMILF I've ever seen). I could live with that though.

it doesnt matter where u go 1st or which quest u do 1st, they still the same.
the monster difficulty are based on your lvl, so answer for your question, it doesnt matter.

it's already been explained that doing an isometric view would require them to "cut out" the top of buildings and etc, as it would be too cramped up to have an isometric view with building tops cramping up the screen. Bioware devs explain that they wanted to focus more on environmental detail this time around, though it was not apparent in the demo.

Y'can't keep a good dragon down... But, err... they kinda want to come down themselves (So you can beat them apparently). Case in point: Poor Skyrim dragon.

Maybe it's like an extended kick in the nuts and secretly they're all just laughing at you.

Think about all those other dragons that you've killed, who apparently gave up their advantage (Flight), so they could lose to you on the ground.

Even the dragons in Baldur's Gate 2 gave up their flight advantage haha.

Maybe all these dragons are feeling charitable and want to give us poor mortals a chance to have some fun.

Losing with your hands tied behind your back (Of your own accord) also makes you give up that same mantle, like with all other stupid supervillains that give monologues or use overly complicated torture devices.

At the risk of sounding sexist, I'd say the sister looks more distinctive than her brother (What with that weird chainmail dress and neck scarf compared to his rather bland villager outfit). Based on that, I'd already assumed the brother would always die until I tried a mage.

Tried all three classes and found that the Mage deals with the enemies the fastest, especially when they are in groups.

This being true in the demo, of course.

Resistances and tougher opponents later on may require the usual variety of tactics and a good tank

Yeah, because the game has considerably less dialogue in it hence the smaller size of megabytes. Or maybe the devs were lazy and made a shorter game compared to DAO. They know people will still buy the game anyway.

Christ son, its action to the max!! If you envision this game as Mass Effect with swords, then its all good. Just like Oblivion with guns haha.

10 Things You Should Know About Dragon Age II
by Joe Juba on March 04, 2011 at 04:38 PM

We are less than a week away from the release of Dragon Age II, and RPG fans are salivating at the thought of getting their hands on BioWare’s latest adventure. You’ll have to wait until the game’s March 8 release to play it for yourself, but having beaten the game, I can give you a heads-up on a few things you should know before you dive into the Dragon Age universe again.

1. Combat Feels Like An Action/RPG
Battles in Dragon Age II feel like they evolved more from the console version of Origins than the PC. Instead of a deliberate and tactical approach, fights take place in third person and focus more on fast-paced action. This is true even if you’re playing on PC, so don’t be surprised when you can’t find your zoomed-out isometric view. Yes, this is a significant change from the last game…but being different isn’t necessarily bad.

2. Classes Are More Specialized
In Origins, warriors and rogues had different roles in combat but shared similar abilities. For instance, both classes could dual-wield and put points into archery-related talents. In Dragon Age II, the warrior loses these capabilities, focusing instead on tanking and dealing melee damage. Rogues are more about precision and support, though their position in relation to enemies is less important. Mages still nuke foes, but they aren’t quite as helpless when faced with direct combat.

3. Inventory Management Is Better
Your allies in Dragon Age II each have a set of armor that they wear all the time. This means that you can’t equip them with the helmets, boots, and gauntlets that you find in your quest. This may sound disappointing at first, but it results in you spending much less time in the menus sizing up and optimizing equipment. If you pick up a new suit of armor that isn’t an improvement for Hawke, you can just sell it; no need to look at all of your active and inactive party members to see if it’s better for them. Plus, you can still outfit your companions with rings, amulets, and belts, so the customization isn’t gone completely. Your inventory will be less cramped, especially since you get a storage chest early on and you aren’t carrying around crafting reagents all the time.

4. Skills Are Gone
When you level up, you allocate ability points and talent points. You no longer get skill points, because skills as they existed in Origins are no longer present. Your character can still do many things that used to be skills, like crafting and lockpicking, but these have migrated to other parts of the game. For instance, the rogue’s ability to pick locks automatically increases for every 10 points in their Cunning ability (simple locks at 10, standard locks at 20, etc.).

5. Kirkwall Is The Main Setting

Don’t expect to travel to the four corners of the Free Marches like you did in Ferelden. Dragon Age II tells the story of Hawke’s rise to power in Kirkwall, and as such, almost all of the action takes place within the city. You’ll take a few trips to surrounding locations, but don’t be surprised when your adventures have you hopping between different parts of Kirkwall instead of different parts of the continent.

6. Not The Usual BioWare Story
BioWare’s plots generally follow a predictable arc. Players go through an introductory sequence, and then the world opens up to four larger areas with their own quests and storylines. When those areas are complete, the tale converges for the thrilling finale. I won’t spoil anything about specific events in Dragon Age II, but I will say that the narrative does not follow this structure at all.

7. Ally Relations Are Improved
If you did things your allies didn’t approve of in Origins, they didn’t like you. That wouldn’t be a big deal, except that cool companion missions weren’t available unless your approval was high with the appropriate character. In Dragon Age II, you can do these missions regardless of whether your ally loves or hates you. Instead of gating story content, the approval system now bestows passive bonuses. If a party member is your friend, you’ll get one kind of bonus. If that same character is a rival, you’ll get a different one. This way, you get reward whether you’re nice or mean, plus you still get to do all of the quests. Being neutral, however, still has no advantages.

8. Conversation Flows Better
The new dialogue system is very similar to the Mass Effect series’. This means that you don’t spend your time reading through a list of responses before selecting one. Instead, you choose a brief response from a wheel that gives you the gist of what Hawke will say next. These responses are also accompanied by an icon that lets you know if you’re being flirty, aggressive, snarky, etc. One benefit to this approach is that conversations are not start-and-stop affairs; they flow naturally and Hawke emerges as a more defined character instead of a voiceless cipher.

9. You’re A Long Way From Ferelden
The Free Marches are influenced by the events from the previous game, but don’t expect every little choice you made in Origins to change the world. You’ll hear some references in dialogue, and even see a couple cameos, but Dragon Age isn’t Mass Effect. You won’t be bombarded with reminders of your previous deeds. Hawke’s story stands apart from the Grey Warden’s, though it still clearly takes place in the same world. However, be aware that some minor story points in Origins and Awakening have been retconned, so even if you import your save, the events of the previous games aren’t necessarily set in stone.

10. It’s Shorter, But Not Short
I finished Dragon Age II, along with every sidequest, in approximately 40 hours. While that isn’t the 70 hours it took me to play through Origins, it’s still a large chunk of time, and I certainly didn’t feel cheated by the amount of content.

For today's standards, that's actually quite decent.

But if you compare with the gems of the yesteryear, e.g. Baldur's Gate 2 which was really long (250 hours side quests included if I'm not mistaken), then you'd be disappointed.

Since I'm working almost everyday, I don't mind it simpler.
I mean, I have like 30 mins to play, I don't want to spend it to arrange items and buy presents.
