QUOTE(meetxj9 @ Feb 27 2011, 02:36 PM) I have mixed feelings about this game, i hate it and love it at the same time. The fast paced action is fine with mass effect 2, but DA was fine without the flashy moves and combat system. The main character now feels like a cheap rip off from a japanese action game. Characters were more believable in the original, cause it was done that way. We loved it, we ate it up, we treasured it, we bought it, so why cheese the whole IP up by changing game mechanics that were fine? Bear in mind that your personal taste might not reflect the potential millions of people that play this. |

Hmm the combat is a LOT better, mages still too powerful though. The dialogue and facial expressions are more robotic than the 1st game.
What team combo are you guys running? I'm doing: Shield Warrior (me) 2H Warrior (Fenris) Mage (Bethany) Ranged (Varric) This combo is really easy at early chapters |

QUOTE(Kidicarus @ Mar 10 2011, 10:04 AM) Ya you could have a dual wielding warrior in the first game, the trouble is, it played exactly like a rogue in plate but with less utility. There is a potion you can buy in Black Emporium...By the way, is there anywhere you can go to respec your abilities? I was sooo lucky they put it there, since I screwed up on Merrill/Anders' builds. |

Building a Tank is fairly useless in this game... your companions' DPS complete destroys your threat generation even with the battlemaster talent and bravery. I used goad, taunt and gave my tanks 20 seconds head start... nope that dragon/demon still comes and eats my Merrill. It's better to pump more into DPS build but with some select tanking talents.
It's a far cry from the old sword-shield Alistair which held every monster like elephant glue |

When you say "epic-ness" you just want some typical "unite the nation and slay huge demon" story, or "unite the galaxies and slay evil reapers". That's kinda overdone now...
I didn't like the story at first, but in time I really appreciate how pieces of your actions comes along to form the entire ending, how an innocent gold dig changed the face of the world, how a murder left slide creates a personal tragedy in the end. In other RPGs, you can really forget about the quests you did on the way to your next chapter. Here, everything comes back to a head. You really feel personally responsible for the conclusion of the story, very bittersweet albeit anti-climatic. |

Here's what I felt about DA2:
+ Nice refreshing plot direction to explore causality. A cookie-cutter plot (aka DA1) normally makes you a drive-by victim of the game's overarching conflict, spurring you to end it. This one makes your actions the root of the problem, without absolving you of blame (e.g. Planescape). + Improved combat. You can script your teammates nicely and play it like an action game (well in normal difficulty anyways). The combat effects are more visceral and meaty for melee types. + Removed top-down. When you play the game using top-down, you really miss a lot of the graphics. - Too few environments. Also Bioware put too much content in the the city, until it felt repetitive doing many plot points in the same zone. - Trivialized dragon fight. So you get a random high dragon in an unassuming side quest, with bad loot to boot, how epic is that - An overarching main plot/villain would still be nice. Despite the causality twist, it still feels like you're playing 3 different unrelated stories. - Hard to target enemies due to enemy hitbox and wonky camera. - Feels rushed and under-baked, Bobby Kotick would be proud - Dull Teammates. Nothing compared to the holy trinity of Alistair, Morrigan and Zhevran. |

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Mar 13 2011, 03:31 PM) You know, what i am gonna do is: Buy Witcher 2 on release. It has probably won in terms of role playing and story than all other RPGs in 2011. Just hope it's not as buggy as the first one, which also worries me a lot. TBH I always thought Witcher was kinda overrated. And the E3 demo of Witcher 2 ripped off ME2's force field scene rofl. |
