You can consider yourself special or unique since your the only one on S Pass whereas everybody else is on EP. Do you see a diff between those who are on EP and those on S Pass?

More often then not its just the status of the pass which foreigners are concern about, PR is their ultimate goal since they start gummy bear job hunting.

This may be a slap on your face but it will do the magic to your questions.

First ask yourself do you have the skillsets and experience that the locals lack off. Secondly establish some reasonings by putting yourself in the government"s shoes. You will find clarity or some recipe in the selection of pr. Throw in the recent complains by the locals and voilà, you got the magic formula for your questions.

I've always wondered how does "the company" factor in when they help you to get a PR. I wonder how much weight is given for an employers recommendation towards an employee when it comes to PR application.

If im not mistaken, the chances of you getting PR in the mechanical engineering department is more likely since the job usually entails a non-office type of work which most Singaporeans shun, since less singaporeans are willing to go into a respective field, mom would most likely grant pr preference to those in a field where singapore is lacking in skilled manpower.

half is not expensive, its standard, there are some agents who want a months rental rather then half.

There is a list of "hot" jobs on MOM's website, so I guess if your job is in the list you might have a better chance (???).

Anyway, in the Straits Times about a month back it was reported that the online PR self-test tool was removed (no good reason given for removal) and a Japanese lady working here (forgot what field, but salary SGD4k) who got her PR application rejected: she (and others) complained about lack of transparency about the process. sweat.gif

it's better to get agent if pay half consider very good as agent will help you settle everything including the tenant agreement...no matter how..you need to pay the $$$...that's the pre-requisite to get job in sg.

guys, please get a reliable agent. before the deal, please make sure you get a namecard and everything is nicely posted in black & white. If renting HDB unit, please make sure "owner" has the documents to prove he owns the property. Also ensure he is allowed to sublet his unit & registered with HDB.

I am going through nightmare with an agent (i believe not registered) because of a recent bad deal. They owe me 2 months (!) and avoiding calls vmad.gif vmad.gif vmad.gif

Hello... your personal situation is not relevant lah. It's normal business practice.

That's like saying your salary should be based on what your expenses are, instead of your skills and experience.

If you really can't afford the agents' fee, then don't use an agent. Work harder to search for flats direct from the owner / main tenant.

For my job, apparently I will be bonded for 2 years, so I guess should I cabut early, the company needs to take action and can do so against a local citizen who became my guarantor.

Just say that you don't know anybody in Singapore, much less someone who will be willing to be your personal guarantor.

If they retract the job offer,.. my personal opinion is that you're better off working for another company. Simple fact of the matter is that if they pay their employees competitively and treat them fairly, why would they need to bond someone?

you email them or you call?...room/house renting here is consider a hot market...unless it's a haunted house...else it's very easy for owner to rent it out...dont expect them to reply your email..i try ady last time..they will never reply you.

what you need to do is call~..if you engage agent..u can tell the agent your requirements on the room...then they will help you filter and nego..mine initially landlord ask fro 650..then my agent help me deal with 600~..

Last time I was looking for place in Clementi area, saw ad in newspaper about room in Clementi, call the agent at 10am for appointment. Agent say only free at 4pm, I say OK loh. 2pm agent call back say room is gone. mad.gif Damn laku.

Luckily my SG aunt go perm her hair, gossip with the hairdresser who mentioned about a room to rent in the area. I fast hand fast leg meet the owner and pay deposit on the spot. sweat.gif
