QUOTE(HughieRmX @ May 13 2010, 03:52 PM) Does the bank call you up whenever a transaction have been made using the credit card whether through the retail CC machine or Online payment portal ? Guys ... I got to quickly point this out that it is impractical for the banks to verify every single transactions via phone call. OR it is only applicable to certain banks ? The larger banks have a cust base of at least 500,000 customers and the smaller ones perhaps 50,000. Imagine 10% of the customer base uses their card on a daily basis. This means a minimum of 5,000-50,000 calls that need to be placed each day just for the sake of confirmation. Most banks detect fraud via a computerized system and places calls to just a fraction of the transaction that comes in through the system - the computer partially helps to identify which transaction requires additional 'attention'. If you guys are worried about fraudulent transactions ... etc, practically wouldn't it make sense to not use credit card ? Be realistic guys, credit card does offer protection but the sheer volume of transactions, there's bound to have a problematic transaction every now and then. If really credit card are unsafe why are there millions of users out there in the world today and it is globally accepted as good as cash in most countries around the world? What you guys are asking is akin to asking no road accidents to ever happen in the country. There are millions of cars and vehicles out there on the road and accidents happen on a daily basis - at a fraction of the total number of vehicles in the country. Would it be practical to ask a body to stop cars on the road @ random just because they are using the road ? Be realistic guys .... banks do call up their customers but they would do so either @ random or either they really have a good d**n solid reason to do so. |

My job is commission based only, I'm getting rm30k in 6 months time past year, RM20k for 2010 until now and I got rejected by Citibank and HSBC Amanah. Keep my finger crossed for UOB and Alliance. Been using my gf's card for more than a year so thought of applying one for myself. |

It all depends on whether the petrol station would allow you to do so. Reloading got nothing to do with TnG, all up to the station to accept it or not. I think they will decline you coz the cost they bear would be high and income could be negative or too little. |

Hey, got a question regarding finance charge due to cash advance. If I already has some outstanding balance (balance from retail transaction) for my CC and then later I make a Cash Advance transaction. When I want to pay up, can I differentiate the payment only for the cash advance?
Say outstanding balance is RM100 and Cash Advance later on is RM100, so end total would be RM200. Then I just want to pay up the cash advance amount RM100 only, would the payment be considered for the cash advance payment? Or I need to pay up RM200 to settle the Cash Advance payment. Sorry if it is a stupid question, hope can get some explanation. Thanks in advance! |

QUOTE(thesurveyor @ May 14 2010, 07:16 PM) Hey, got a question regarding finance charge due to cash advance. If I already has some outstanding balance (balance from retail transaction) for my CC and then later I make a Cash Advance transaction. When I want to pay up, can I differentiate the payment only for the cash advance? Let me try ... guys you could correct me if I'm wrong.Say outstanding balance is RM100 and Cash Advance later on is RM100, so end total would be RM200. Then I just want to pay up the cash advance amount RM100 only, would the payment be considered for the cash advance payment? Or I need to pay up RM200 to settle the Cash Advance payment. Sorry if it is a stupid question, hope can get some explanation. Thanks in advance! Banks treat the various transactions according to a hierarchy and may slightly differ bank-to-bank. Generally ... 1. Retail transactions 2. Outstanding balance 3. Cash advance and etc. What this means is that your payment priority will go to item 1 -> item 2 -> and so on. This enables the bank to ALWAYS maximize returns on the interest that they are able to recover from the consumer. In your case if you pay RM100, the money will go to outstanding balance. You still owe the bank cash advance. You need to pay RM200 ++ to clear the Cash Advance. Why I say ++ is that don't forget your interest is being charged on a daily rest. Lesson here : Please don't use Cash Advance and if possible avoid outstanding balance as once the bank is able to charge you interest, they will maximize the opportunity to the max. Don't blame the banks ... they are there to make money from the consumer. They are not charities. Period. |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Thank you for your sound explanation. So, banks do have hierarchy system, though, sounds abit unfair. But as you mentioned, banks are not the one to be blame in the end |
