@darkie:
Its all well and good to use straps for pulling exercises, but when you start reaching heavy weights in things like dumbell flyes and presses, without the forearm strength to lock the wrist in place, isnt there a higher risk of injury? ps. Im gonna avoid your gym, next to you I look like an anorexic twig |

But it's nto an absolute priority. I'll ask you something. When you attempted the 100 pounders for shrugs and your grip gave way halfway thru the set, did you think the set was wasted? Would it have been a lot more different if you used straps to bypass the weak link? QUOTE(0mars @ May 9 2010, 06:29 PM) @darkie: That's the problem. Beginners always think in absolutes. There are no absolutes in this sport. If a trainee needs straps to do mundane things like flyes and presses, he's a total idiot and he should stop bb'ing completely and go kill himself.Its all well and good to use straps for pulling exercises, but when you start reaching heavy weights in things like dumbell flyes and presses, without the forearm strength to lock the wrist in place, isnt there a higher risk of injury? ps. QUOTE(darklight79 @ May 9 2010, 05:11 PM) I shrug with over 130 pound dumbbells, or 315 pounds for barbell shrugs and if anyone tells me not to use straps I'll show them the finger. Why let a weak link limit you? Here we go. Baby weight to me:- means,its okay we using straps instead of grip it ? You're bodybuilding, not powerlifting. Grip strength is a secondary concern, not a top priority. Why waste time training your grip when that time could be used to build overall more important muscles? |

QUOTE(John91 @ May 9 2010, 11:17 PM) You still have to grip it even if you're using straps... agreedLifting 130lbs for shrugs isn't exactly the lightest thing yaknow. even gloves cant compare to straps when shrugging (not that i use straps though cuz im still comfortable with the weight i use...) |

It's comparing using your palms for spanking the monkey and using your feet. Straps rule.
