dang i m pretty certain my macbook pro cant last beyond 4 hours ... its far from 10 hours...

i attached the coconut stats though i cant tell if it has any sign of battery problem but a forumer ask for it..

and i m using my laptop for normal browsing with wifi... not running some videos in fact..

i hope i m not expecting too much cause i have much lighter vaio with same power horse running 8 hours easily.

i m just really wondering am i having a faulty battery or am i doing something wrong somewhere...

thanks

It depends on what you want on your laptop. For me I bought VMware myself and Microsoft office media expression (got it free from MS). Rest all downloaded from website as in freeware. That would be for normal casual users. Alot of mac website have freeware programs that would satisfy the hunger for normal user. Plus some programs can be easily ported to mac minus the interface if you are familiar with *nix.

Think as normal casual user where you got skype, msn, ym, torrent, qq, vlc etc and you can have it all on mac for free same like windows counterpart.

If you are photo video editing enthusiast then I guess you need alot more programs for mac and thus for those you will need to buy it in CD or via e-delivery.

For mac there's no official central repository as in iPhone/iPad

Not sure if this helps but play around with the brightness perhaps as I think you may already have the setting for maximum battery life in preference. I still got those 7-8hours mark. What I normally do
1) Make sure no dvd/cd in drive
2) Not turning on bt
3) Play around with brightness
4) Calibrate approximately every month
5) Keyboard backlit for mbp turned off

Try play around with the brightness and see if it help to prolong it as it should be

All new MBP is using MiniDisplay port. If I'm not mistaken they do sell those MiniDP to VGA cable.
No idea on what to recommend apart from maybe vmware/parallel and microsoft office and normal chat programs etc plus I don't know what you are into or you might like. I have tubetv to get those youtube videos which I think is good. utorrent, vlc.

I don't play games in laptop only in my iphone. it's alot cheaper (mostly 0.99usd with good apps costing 9.99usd) and it's much more mobile smile.gif
Apart from those normal programs, I have some which are useful only in my work/passionate area. Unless you work in same field like me then no use to install/configure/compile all those stuff smile.gif

Anyone still using MacBook Air? Was thinking of getting one for when I go outside (mainly surfing and probably some note taking).
Is it worth getting the Air or should I get an iPad instead?

shudn't u get the programs ur uni/college requires u to? the whole adobe range is available in mac versions, maybe u'll want photoshop, illustrator and indesign. google sketchup maybe good for u too.

about the monitor, afaik there's an adapter for that, called VGA female-to-male converter. female means the end with holes, male is the one with pins. im not kidding tongue.gif

VRAM mostly lets u use more/higher quality textures in games. i suggest i7 if u can afford smile.gif
