Not sure if this helps but play around with the brightness perhaps as I think you may already have the setting for maximum battery life in preference. I still got those 7-8hours mark. What I normally do
1) Make sure no dvd/cd in drive
2) Not turning on bt
3) Play around with brightness
4) Calibrate approximately every month
5) Keyboard backlit for mbp turned off

Try play around with the brightness and see if it help to prolong it as it should be
My brightness is set to 75% and calibrate it on a monthly basis. BUT, i do run iTunes at the background. Roughly 4 hours to 4.5 hours. No backlit for MB White, and i prefer to use Chrome now though smile.gif

It will last at least 8 over months smile.gif The last update to the MBP line was in June last year when they introduced 13" MBP..

Added on April 15, 2010, 12:03 pmThanks for the input on ACPP, I guess I'll just go ahead getting it directly from the AppleStore. The news on fake ACPP really made me nervous .. Apple will say, as long as the code is valid, then shouldn't be a problem .. but if there is a conflict, someone claiming the same code and we don't have the serial number and proof of purchase .. then poof .. waste the RM .. ACPP for MBP is a bit over RM1K.

don't think so..now mac already have the now i5 and i7 for the mbp 15 and 17

WTA : we all know that MAC OS is virus-free OS..but what if i opt to install windows on MAC..does it still vulnerable to the viruses and as such? this my first time using MAC OS..has anyone ever encountered crashes or corruption over MAC OS? i know windows always do..is it save for me to not have partitions rather than keeping my files on 1 partition?

Mac OSX is not virus-free or has flawless security.

As for Windows-based infections, it depends on the nature of the virus. E.g. if it exploits an EXE executable, then it won't affect OSX because the latter runs on a completely different framework. In most cases, your OSX system is safe.

no one can be sure. juz because 1 unit very hot doesnt mean every single unit is hot. we all know got case where MBP explode etc but u dont see every single MBP in the world explode. read a few pages back on what i said about manufactured products. worst case, u can claim warranty.

hmm, am i mistaken or was there a virus in the wild already??????? oh on a lighter note teh bootcamp partition separates the two partition so that windoze dont screw up the mac partition, its always the case isnt it?. Ok heres the thing remember in OSX not to put yourself as an ADMIN, make a separate Admin account and relegate your primary as a standard user, just in case someone wants to remotely control something.

This is a great tip if you don't trust the user to not open random attachments, visit unverified links, install random crap, etc. It's inconvenient, but safe.

There have been many security exploits for the OSX in recent years, mostly from Safari. But definitely nothing compared to Windows, of course.

im wondering if this is still true? bootcamp 3.0 can write to the OSX partition right? so virus can go in OSX partition? no effect la, but juz wondering if it's possible

In what way a windows virus can affect OSX files? This you need to understand a virus characteristic. It delivers a payload once executed or the condition in right and target the system vulnerability. Windows and OSX have different vulnerability i.e. different kernel, file system etc. What is an executable in windows is not in OSX. So the virus can't execute it's command in OSX where it's not familiar with. A virus exploit the system vulnerabilities.

On the other hand, we can see that OSX is getting a foothold on the computer industries compared to like 10 years ago. OSX user base have grown a substantial numbers, so I would not be surprised if there would be "viruses" written specifically for OSX in the near future. The anti-virus industry is a big money thing. Last time, the OSX user is so small that it's not beneficial or profitable to virus writers or anti-virus companies (which sometimes I think writes these viruses - hahaha conspiracy theory).

p/s - I stand corrected. A quick google on Mac OS X viruses shows a few viruses for OSX already circulating i.e. HellRaiser Trojanhorse aka OSX/HellRTS.D (http://www.securemac.com/hellrtsd.php). Like any trojanhorse, user need to execute the virus first to release the payload.

Another virus Leap-A (probably written as a proof of concept) spread thru iChat IM (http://news.techworld.com/security/5392/worlds-first-os-x-virus-hits-apple/).

And the best thing

I will try that in a month, to calibrate it. Usually if i bring my MB out to cafe (to watch F1 ... hehe), then my brightness will set to about 50% and no iTunes playing. Just wifi.

Since i calibrate it mostly at home, i set it to 75%, and I always have iTunes playing at the background though. Bad habit of mine, just love music wink.gif. My wifi signal is optimum. I have ditched FF and using Chrome now.

I'm planning to buy it from apple store, but you know lah how parents thinking. they think the online store is a scam etc. if you know what I mean.

so, anyone here know which stores in malaysia offer education price?
since, some of them only have education price for school. not student.

Sorry to say that apple retail store doesnt offer education price... Only available online... You could ask your parents to read this thread about us buying our macs online with all the trackings available...

Or if your parents are still paranoid about buying online, apple retail store does offer 0% interest fee for certain credit cards (maybank, citibank etc)

I believe there are two Apple educational stores that you could go to .. one is Epicentre at LimKokWing and another a Sapura at MMU .. both at CyberJaya. Their contact numbers are available on the internet, give them a call and ask what needed to buy the unit at educational price .. probably a proof that you're student and nothing much else..

hehehe..there is nothing wrong of having folders on the same partition..it's just that i had been using windows for years..and the traumas of losing files and corrupted data when windows crashed still rings the bell..ive been asking a lot bout this partitioning that ive come to solution now as advised..thanks guys..

1 thing though..can i run applications or games that were installed on MAC from WINDOWS or the other way around?

Hi guys. ordered my mbp 15" i7 along with speck case from apple store online last week. with some add-ons on mbp so they claim to deliver the case and app separately with mbp. I track for status it's still under clearance delay. Normally it took 1-2 days for the process right, does it indicate the possibility of import duty? I'm going to purchase Logitech® Performance Mouse M950 as well, any import duty apply on the mouse? Thanks.
