I have a Question here,

If I go for the 15' 2.4Ghz, and priced RM5899. But with all the customization, I only include the ACPP and Microsoft Office edi.

As I am just a student and not knowing anything about editing photos or using those sort of function. Is it really enough just for an average use?

And for those using the lowest 13' inch model, do you guys add further customization? For this model I just added with the HD at 500, MOffice and ACPP.

I am looking for a laptop that I could work on my thesis and research nothing much, maybe watching some good movies thats all

Any comments would be helpful..Cheersss

YES, thx for your advice...mind asking which model are u using? And your specs?

But the ACPP really does make me think is it really that necessary?

trus me i have spent almost 1.5k in repairs when i could have just bought an acpp for RM899, its my bad cause i let the last day pass by, remember to save up and buy very good investment.

Hey guys, I need some opinions on this matter. I found this one guy on this one popular website. He told me sometimes once every two months he gets a $2000 Apple Gift Card and usually spend it on buying Macbooks and sell it and he claims that he's been doing that for quite a while. I didn't ask from where did he get the card tho my head keeps questioning who on earth would be getting that much of Gift Card. I've faith in him and we're gonna meet up tomorrow.

He offered me a brand new and sealed Macbook 15 core i5 2.4 GHz for a price of RM4800

The other offer is, an opened box Macbook 17 core i7 for RM5600

I'm more inclined to the i7 but the problem is, I fear there is something wrong with it and I'd prefer new stuff if possible not used ones but the price is hard to resist
They both come with a proof of purchase and was bought a week ago as he mentioned.

So my concerns are,

1) Is there any possibility that those are stolen units? (because the prices are just too good to be true but they come with a receipt)
2) For the i7, what's the worst problem could I be facing up to a point the warranty won't cover it?

Provided that my budget is just nice for the i7, and I can't afford a new one with a regular price, if you guys were in my shoes which one do you think I should grab?
Any advice on what I should check, compare, examine, etc?

first thing first, you said someone from a website, do not trust a stranger wholeheartedly. What $2000 apple gift card first? how does he get in the first place, this is news for me eventhough i know you could buy this credit through Apple Store US somehow but you need to credit in the exact same amount(physical cash/credit card) inorder to gift it to someone, so how is he doing this?

The prices are cheaper even by EDU price terms, whats the problem you ask? well they could be stolen or black market imports which will land you in many problems such as:

a. apple would have already blacklisted the products mentioned.

b. it could have been stolen and also subsequently informed at all the service partners info websites.

My suggestion to you is that its best to get your computer through legitimate means as in the Apple Online Store Education store, if you are a student that is, if not save up. No point taking risk to ss\ave a couple of hundred just to find out you have been conned.

bro if you think this is a good deal and that you dont wanna miss it, why dont you COD at an apple retail outlet and get everything checked out - from the imei to the serial number. to make sure that the seller is not selling stolen units of faulty ones.

even comparing it to retail pricing, rm4.8k is alot of money. so if you wanna grab this bargain, better make the extra effort to make sure everything else is legit. smile.gif

as for the option, i wud go for the i7 one if i were you. thumbup.gif

Maybe he fake those gift cards and made a purchase through Apple resellers.
Meaning ... He conned Apple.

By the time Apple discovers the fraud, he would have already passed on the MBP to a third party.

The third party would still be in possession of a 'stolen' unit.

Assuming the law catches up with him, he will be charged with theft.

The third party will be charged for handling stolen goods.

Evidence of the fake gift voucher can be obtained from Apple who in turn can trace the purchaser by the delivery details. The third party can be trace through the serial number of the MBP when he/she registers online OR call AppleCare with any repair/warranty issues.

... IMHO, it's not worth it.

oh its normal?okay. cos when someone mentioned 'calibrate' in the earlier post, i thought there is a way for me to adjust perhaps some settings to make it 100% again. so what you're saying is, as time goes by, the percentage will decrease?
currently this is the info from my mac:

Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 4145
Fully charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full charge capacity (mAh): 4320
Health Information:
Cycle count: 61
Condition: Normal

How many times to told. It will decrease 1% until 95% and once below 95% it will recharge back to 100%.
