how to spot a dead pixel? i just returned mine for faulty screen.. LOL.. i scared the next one came wit dead pixel.. lol..

What happened to your screen?

How to spot a dead pixel? On a white screen ... I get a red dot. Then I change my screen to some other colors, the red dot remained there.

I have a same issue with a Dell monitor [ high end color calibrated 24" monitor ]. When I called Dell, they came up with excuses [ company policy blah blah ... ].
Lazy to argue further with them. Rest assured, I'll never buy another Dell product.

With regards to my MBP, they are supposed to pick it up on friday, 7 May 2010. But until today no one came to pick up the MBP.
They have agreed to replaced it. If they don't, each and every of my client is gonna hear me rant about the little red dot on the MacBook Pro.
I am using it to show my clients their wedding photos. Just imagine the brides asking me what's that red dot on their wedding gown. doh.gif

I don really notice any of those dots. LOL. maybe because im not into photo edtiting,etc...
my screen suddenly flicker.. like those old desktop PC (the oldest one) the screen got line going up & down..
and the screen will go very bright & dark.  sweat.gif
it goes quite fast and make my eye so painfull...
I never buy Dell product because of their sucky customer service. laugh.gif
they picked up mine on friday but before they picked it up they already sent another unit from China so I will be expecting my MBP to arrive by wednesday.
hopefully this unit is not defected.  cool.gif

So fast!! I was told ... that my MBP will hv to go back to china, where they'll check it and then send me the replacement. They say it might take approximately 2-3 weeks
before I get the replacement unit of MBP!!

That's BS. I suggest you get your unit back and send to proper Apple Service Center ASAP.

I bought it online through apple store malaysia. And I am in Ipoh. Do you mean I can just walk in into any of the Apple Premium Resellers like Machines or Switch and have it exchanged?
Actually I intend to call them again tmrw morning.

Will update you guys after work today. Mine was shipped from China and it has a dead pixel straight out of the box.
I received my MBP on 4 May 2010. I called Apple Care on friday, 5 may 2010, and I was told it'll be shipped back to china.
Apple Care said someone will come for the pick up on 7 May 2010 but as of this moment I still have my MBP with me.
I have actually resealed the whole package and awaiting for the pick up since 5 May 2010.

Appreciate all you replies. I'll call Apple care again.

I called Apple Care this morning [10 May 2010] Technical Support 1800-80-3638 and was put on hold for a few short minutes before the called was transferred to a customer care executive [ Customer Care / After Sales Support Team 1800-80-6419 ].

The Apple Customer Care Executive [ACCE] needed to check with DHL and called me back within an hour to inform me that DHL will get back to her in the afternoon ... which she called me at 3:30pm to inform me that DHL will pick up my MBP tomorrow morning [11 May 2010].

Hopefully everything turns out well.

when you said a lot, can you give a number of macs that you've seen personally that experienced the problem you mentioned above. Or do you based this from what you've read?

Does your replacement unit have the same serial no. as the first unit? Did Apple Care replaced your defective unit with another one OR repaired the defect?

I have a query. If I store movie files [1080p mkv files] in NTFS formatted ex-HDD, I can use HD media player to play the files. This is my current situation.

How do I reconcile with Mac OS? MacBook Pro doesn't read/write to NTFS formatted ex-HDD. HD movies are usually bigger than 4GB, ruling out the use of a FAT32 formatted ex-HDD.

Just wanna transfer movie from NTFS formatted ex-HDD to MacBook Pro ... and use MacBook Pro to play the movie ... viewing it on a 42" HD LCD TV.

I am asking this here bc I don't see the need to start a new thread if there is a straight forward one line answer.

You can install ntfs-3g in order to use NTFS format with your mac and can transfer files bigger than 4GB...

Dead On Arrival i.e faulty when something arrived at your doorstep/when you opened it
Complete to Order i.e standard specs and not customized/upgraded specs
*
With due respect, I think CTO means Customized To Order.
I bought my MBP 13" together with a MiniDisplay to DVI connector.
Discovered a dead pixel with the first 20mins of powering it up.
Called Apple. Now it goes back to China and not Apple South Asia [ Singapore ].
Reason being ... it is a CTO unit. Not a standard unit.
Replacement takes 2-3 weeks from date the faulty unit was picked up.
My location : IPOH.

Yes, if you are in the US and goes to college. Otherwise, you'll have to order from the respective Apple Online store of your country.
For malaysia , it's http://store.apple.com/my

OR you can try one of the many Apple resellers ... dunno whether they'll give you a free ipod touch with your macbook purchase.

Sucks man! I just bought a brand new MBP 13 from the Apple online store and just within 2 weeks, the battery has problems and can't be charged.

Called Apple's Support line and there were very good but still had to bring to Machines to service... and now they tell me that they will need 1 week to diagnose and another week to change the battery... damn!...

if Apple wants to take some market share from the enterprise segment, they better do a lot better in the services side...

if I had a dell, they would send an engineer on-site the next day to solve my problems....

just my bad luck I guess sad.gif
*
Yeah right ... I bought a high end IPS-Panel U2410 LCD monitor from Dell
and it came with a dead pixel. Called them up and I was told that it is Dell's policy that no replacement would be made unless there are 6 or more dead pixels. vmad.gif

Apple agreed to exchange my MBP 13" when I discovered a dead pixel out of the box. No beating around the bush. I am now waiting for the delivery of the replacement unit.
Called up Apple again today and it is due to arrive 4~6 June 2010.

When I sms-ed my gf that Apple agreed to replace the MBP 13"; she sms-ed back "That's so cool !! Screw Dell !!" . By the way, she's a Dell user.

My heart sank when I powered up my MBP 13 and saw the dead pixel right in the middle of the screen. My Dell U2410 had one dead pixel ... more or less at the same spot.

I am so happy that Apple agreed to replace the unit. I have convinced my bro and a friend to buy Apple thus far. Even my gf will be an apple user in the very near future. Now she hates it everytime she powers up her Dell Inspiron.

I think she really means it when she texted " Screw Dell !! "

My replacement unit is here smile.gif Just arrived less than 5 minutes ago. Will power it up after work today. Almost 6 days ahead of schedule and it is an entirely new unit bc the serial number is different. Two thumbs up for Apple.

Guess what !!!

*&#$@ ... I returned my MBP for a replacement because it came with a dead pixel.
Now the replacement comes with a dead pixel as well.

Now I have to call Apple Care again tmrw. And I'll have to wait while this unit goes all the way back to China and another unit gets shipped to me. The last time this happens, it took 19 days. @#*&$

In windows, we can terminate a 'hanged' application by accessing the task manager via ctrl+ALT+DEL or ALT+F4 .... how do you do that in MBP?

I installed Windows Live Messenger for Mac and it 'hanged' !!
