Thats why you need 99 for a scholarship. Which means you pay nothing. Most of the top Australian universities (referring to the Group of 8 unis) provide partial scholarships for students with TER of 99 - 99.95, depending on your choice of course. For courses like Medicine or Law, its highly unlikely that you will get a scholarship even with TER99.5 due to the high demand of places amongst the top students.

erh.........whut's TER?
*
TER is 'Tertiary Entrace Rank', which basically is where you are placed among everyone who did that exam. A TER of 99 means you are among the top 1% of all students, a TER of 95 would place you in the top 5%. The highest possible TER is 99.95, which means you are among the top 0.05% of students.

Scholarship to study in Japan
Monbukagakusho Scholarship

Annually open for application... check out the Japan Embassy website every March-April of the year. Very competitve though. Last year, 1500 applicants 33 students offered.

You'll have to pass three stages to get offered:
1. Application with prescribed form;
2. Written examination;
3. Interview.

No need to know Japanese! Language training will be provided before you leave for Japan!

Hi All,

You may or may be aware that almost all associations provide some form of scholarship or student loans. You should really check them out especially those associations that are rich: Hokkien, Canton, Hakka, Teochew and etc.. The requirement for membership for those association are varied but the scholarship requirement tend to be merit based..

These are more like a Foundation; in BM called "Yayasan".

There is more State Based Foundation and well-established foundation such as KUOK Foundation.

You apply the scholarship first, enrolling into the college dont guarantee you a scholarship

petronas has 2 interviews.. one using forcast/trial results, the other one using SPM results. If you've gone to the first interview(trial result) and you didn't manage to get a scholarship, and then you apply a second time, you don't have to go for a second interview. They'll just tell you if you got a spot or not. that's what happened to me smile.gif

[FONT=Times]This magazine is published annually and will soon be releasing its 2006 issue this coming November. The informations even consists of scholarship criteria, qualification, application process, contact and even the closing deadlines throughout the year. You'll notice that some scholarship deadline states its month only (eg. Deadline: month April) shocking.gif That is because these scholarships are consistenly offered every year, therefore their closing deadlines closes around April of the year, unless they stop offering the scholarship or had made major changes on it. This scholarship magazine has about 200 types of scholarship/loan drool.gif for undergraduate & postgraduate. And it is a very useful & convenient guide that student should have. thumbup.gif

some scholarships require u to be accepted in a college/university first before u can apply them. however it does not guarantee that u'll receive the scholarship. the 2 scholarships that i applied (scholarships of this kind) are samling scholarship and jpa(yes, jpa has one like this too for public uni). i got both but chose samling as the offer was better. fyi, i am doing mechanical engineering first year in universiti teknologi malaysia right after spm (and just in case u might have some thoughts about my race, i am a chinese)

For ASEAN Pre-U scholarship.

Just a tip that if you have alot of certificates, is good in English and have over 6 As for trials, you'll have a high chance of getting a callback for the testing. The test is super hard so make sure you study for it. It's about 5 times harder than the form 5 stuff. English is very important too and get IQ test questions that are pattern-related.

But you'll have to think thoroughly about going to Singapore. If you are not at least average or above average in your class when in Junior College, you will be sent home and you are required to pay back all they've paid for you plus 10% of that amount.

I stongly recommend this website
http://www.recom.org
It provide useful info about scholarship (JPA, Petronas, ASEAN etc). Most of the members are scholarship seekers with very impressive results.
They discuss the scholarship etc during the scholarship season, mostly 1 mth B4 the release of SPM/STPM.

hi people!

==Yayasan Proton/Proton Scholarship==

info

yes, i know that quite a number of us have something against proton, but it's a scholarship for those who are interested. my friend is a proton scholar and from what i heard from him, this scholarship gives out quite a lot of $$$ per anum biggrin.gif. the bond is 1 to 1, meaning if sponsored by proton for 1 year, you get bonded for 1 year, for now that is, as told by my friend. one thing though, when you start to work for proton after you graduate, they kind of pay you with peanuts tongue.gif. but the experience you gain from working in proton, it's worthwhile for a fresh graduate.

Hi all ...

WTA : Are there any private/gov organization that offer scholarship or loan to medical students ? I'm currently a 3rd year student in IMU, jz completed my first phase study +will continue my clinical years (another 3years) in Australia- Melbourne uni.

I applied for JPA, submitted my form last 2 months. But when i called them...they said "budget 2005 sudah habis la", have to call back next year. sad.gif

Anyone? Thanks.

what am i supposed to do if i'm a 2nd batch for NS and i can't attend an interview for a particular scholarship?

anyone experienced this before?
*
If that's the case, it's best if you talk to the organization giving you the interview. I'm sure they'll be able to sort out a solution for you (and I'm sure they have experience in dealing with this sort of problems).

Most people did that. Even PTPTN also needs your SPM/STPM actual result. That mostly apply to loans but for admission purpose, some does accept trial result.

the actual application starts after the release of the SPM results. You don't need to wait till then to do your work, get your certs and whatnot ready, have them certified. Do necessary things so that you don't need to run around preparing your documents after D-DAY.

You have to find this out from the financial department. For the scholarship I'm not so sure.
As for the loan, say PTPTN, my university and also MMU do allow you to defer payment until you get the loan. So i think there is a possibility that Taylors will do that too.
Just called up Taylors, as simple as that.

Different college has difference management style. To get closer look on it, it's better to give them a ring.

I once emailed Taylor. They told me that I can only apply for PTPTN after Im accepted into the college but Im not pretty sure about the deffering payment. They did told me that, if I failed to get PTPTN loan, they have other available loans for their students as well.

But to confirm, just visit them, email or call them up.

I am in need of some info on applying for a scholarship from The Star, i have just started my degree in Jan and would like to use my Diploma's academic records to apply for a scholarship but the problem arises when i look upon The Star scholarship application form where it states that i must put in my grades for either SPM or STPM. I thought if i were to apply it for my degree all i need is to hand in my Diploma's result, and there has been no column on that form says that i can. I am a liitle lost right now? If anyone has applied it for using their Diploma results kindly tell me how to do it.

United World Colleges Scholarship

Read more about it in the Star Education article here and also a personal account from a current Msian student in UWC here.

For more information on the IB, there is also the Official IB site and article in Tinkosong.

I would be glad to answer any further questions.

Sometimes, although you have apply the ptptn, some college or uni won't allowed you to defer payment because of the loan haven't receive or arrived. You could pay first or try and discuss with the Finance Department Head. If this also fails, then I suggest you to forward your voice to the Student Representative Board. MMU once faces this problem, and we actually get our elected person to help us.

and does anyone have any ideas on singapore scholarships? ok, the 'they're-ridiculously-hard-to-get' remarks aside, i would still like to know more about the options available. haha.

monash malaysia scholarship has 2
one is entrance and another one is merit

entrance is available starting of the semester,
you apply it will you apply to take any courses in monash

merit is base on your previous year academic performance in monash

in short you need to pay your fees first, until the ceremony they give you back the money.

similarly, sunway do offer scholarship base on your SPM results as well.
it is still open i guess

Now its the time where all the scholarships are coming out. So pls contribute and I'll try my best to update them frequently as I believe many SPM & SPTM leavers will need them now. For those who have NST papers, I believe many scholarships are posted there, I do not have NST papers so pls post up the relevent info for everyone.

It depends on the situation. If Petronas wants you, then no need to give back. Otherwise, you need to repay.

If you're proud for it, then you put. Otherwise, not advised to. Usually people will put those which are quite recent.

If it only applies to undergraduate courses, is it possible if i apply for loan using foundation results?

Btw, I'm currently waiting for Foundation programme registration day in Nottingham M'sia Campus.

Ermm.. I've came across about CMT Foundation Study Loan but the thing is, it doesn't state the deadline of its application. I'm afraid that it has expired. I really need to find some finance resources to support my living expenses when I'm going KTAR (KL main campus) for advance diploma then.

Some are outdated.
To ensure that those scholarship infos are accurate, you should enquire the financial aid provider.

JPA is Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam.
Matriculation is a PreU course. If you are referring to Malaysian Matriculation, you'll have to get the application form from your school administrators during form 5.

As fas as I know from my engineering profession, maybe generally:

1. NUS and NTU's ASEAN Postgraduate Scholarships, for coursework studies only

2. NUS and NTU's Research Scholarships for graduate degrees by research, usually for PhDs

3. Other scholarships in Singapore such as Millenium and A*Star scholarships

4. Japanese Monbukagakusho Postgrad scholarships

5. British Chevening scholarships

6. Australian National University Master scholarships

I am sure there are a lot more but not all of them suitable for yourself. Some of these sponsorships require TOEFL and GRE scores.

Well I'm looking for that as well!!
Well usually oversea university agencies in Malaysia do have some information about scholarship.
For UK: If you go to SS15, opposite Taylors Subang Jaya, you see a few UK uni agencies (SEA offices there) maybe you can ask for scholarships..
for Aus: There are some uni agencies that handle some Australia and UK uni - maybe you can find them and ask. It's opposite Taylors Subang Jaya at SS15.

I am planning to go there once I go back to Malaysia. I'm currently doing my degree in UK now. If I can get scholarship for masters, I might continue my studies here in UK.

u can get scholarships to study overseas from JPA as well. although u go through the same office as the undergraduate applicants, ur application is processed by a different department. not many people know JPA sends students to study masters overseas. a couple of chinese friends of mine in london were bragging of how easy it was for them to get em (this was in 2003).

however, i believe all administration of students studying overseas have shifted to the ministry of higher education, no longer by JPA. so the scholarship management might also have shifted there as well. do check.

I have a question to ask regarding the Jpa scholarships. Currently, I am offered a scholarship by JPA for medicine. Right now...i have to do my a-levels first and im currently posted to India for my medicine course after I finish my a-levels.

I was just wondering whether the current placement of University is fixed or we will have to choose later which country that we prefer and based on our a-levels result? rclxub.gif

Please reply to me for those who know about the procedure. Thanx cool.gif

From what I know, JPA selects the country in which you shall go to. You on the other hand get to choose the university from a list recognised by JPA.If you're unhappy with India, you can only choose another country with the same price tag as India or cheaper.eg, you get an offer from Cambridge but you won't be going there since it costs more than Manipal.

I know it doesn't sound right but JPA has a budget to meet, where are they going to get an additional RM500-600k for you?

my sister is also looking for scholarship's too. are you familiar with the Malaysia Scholarship magazine? We've called the publisher to ask when is this year's magazine coming out. They said that the latest issue will be out this coming December because they have to wait for the sponsors to update their coming scholarships first... and yes, you have to submit your final result in the application, so...have to wait...

generally, all the big private colleges offer scholarships to any courses you want. the main reason i chose private colleges scholarship over the government scholarship, is simply 1 simple factor. Do you want to be bonded to the government for 7 years ? shakehead.gif
cons of it: well colleges instead of asking for you to work for them after you finish studies, will ask you to work part-time for them. Maybe around 5-9 hours a week. Luckily I didnt kena that icon_rolleyes.gif another con is that you wont get allowances unlike government scholarship lo. But beats being tied down to the government for 7 years anytime rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

currently, im actually looking at what private companies offer. If it's private company I wouldnt mind being tied to them. Job security and good promotion chance in private rather than government since im a non bumi whistling.gif

eh hello guys, but i got my SPM forecast results. 7A out of 11. but will it be too late/impossible to apply using my REAL spm results assuming i get better grades there. will there be scholarships open at that time the results are out?

and can i study A levels while applying scholarship next year or will i be one year too late considering that i am 1 batch behind

Safest way is to accept what you have right now and ditch it when you have better offer.
Lets say you join A levels 1st intake next year and receive 20% scholarship on it. Then if you happen to get JPA, you can just cancel your enrolment. Of course you may need to repay them back according to their terms.

Well, if so, use your forecast results! (Astro Scholarship)

As for me, I'm doing my STPM currently (Upper 6) and in the results section, I put my SPM results (2 years back) and not forgetting, my MUET result as well!...

I managed to write all those 4 essays (3 mandatory + 1 optional)!
Too bad though, as for the 3rd essay, I wrote about 640 words and when I inserted the number '640' in the words count field, an alert box poped out saying that "Please insert an integer less than 500" ..! CRAP! Without hesitation, I put 500!!

Anyone else applied for the ASTRO's scholarship thingy?...

Btw, i read the TnC for astro 1 but not so understand. For 2006 SPM candidates that apply astro scholarship, then need a position in Uni? Wat is the requirement about actually?

HUH? u dunno any agent there?..the counsellor eh..or if there is any education fair on australian universities,u can bring ur results slip and apply on the spot.i hope it's not too late though..
over here, there are encouraging those with good results to apply for scholarship,so that make it easier for me...coz the agent will call us and ask what do u want to study and where do u want to go,and they'll try their best to help us..that's how i got to know bout the scholarship

Those who got their scholarship applied with university offers under their belt, so I guess it would be better to apply only when you have an offer from a very good university.

Foundation course?

www.jmecc.com.my

Oh....chose Trinity College, Australia!

Why you should chose Trinity:
-They give scholarships of 2.5k Aus to a few students....maybe 2 from Malaysia(1 boy and 1 girl)
-Guaranteed a place in the University of Melbourne if you reach a certain score
-I am going there =p, I want some friends

i am a jpa scholar. regarding the issue where u need to quit any preU program after getting jpa scholarship, you are not necessary to do so.

you can prefer to continue your studies, which means save time, as jpa tends to give longer period of studies to its scholar, eg 2 yrs for alevels, 1 yr and half for sam etc. jpa allows you to continue with your studies, then further your studies in university under jpa scholarship. hope that helps. =)

btw, you need at least 9As to be guaranteed a JPA interview.

you can always surf www.recom.org as many scholars in malaysia visit the website. =)

Not always true. No one knows what those dumbnuts are doing. There are cases where it is either they quit the program or give up the scholarship.

IMU, one or two full/partial scholarships.

Unlikely to have any other possible ways to get sponsorship for medicine other than that.

imu requires parents income to be lower than 30k per annum if not wrong. what about tuition grants or study loans?

Fee waivers are given in some universities but I am not sure if it is given to medical students. Even if it is given, it would usually be just a few thousand bucks, hardly any form of assistance. It is a token for your hard work, that's all.

Do not take study loans because it is foolish to do so. you'll end up with a million dollar debt when you are ready to practise. That is of course if you study in the UK or Australia.

Cheaper alternatives are India and Russia, however it is still not advisable to take a loan to study there. How long would it take to pay off RM100k plus interest with the current salary of fresh doctors?

Check your yayasan state's website, it should be 0% interest but with limited amount. PTPTN only offers for local institute, take it if you don't have any choices left.

u guys interested to furthur ur studies in japan?
well, i've applied for the MONBUKAGAKUSHO scholarship before, in year 2005 i think
u can download the application form from their website
firstly, u'll have to submit ur application
if u're selected, u have to sit for a test
the test subjects varies according to wht u choose to study
there's science and arts i guess
i went for the arts one..so i had to sit for math, world history and english tests
after that, they will short list abt 20+ candidates for an interview
i only got till the interview part, wasn't selected for the schorlarship though

hope that helps ^^

haha..well, ya. when i took the test, i just finished spm only.
i sat for math, english and world history
the math should be spm lvl add math
not sure if eng is spm standard or not
as i've nv learnt world history before, i just basicallyguess most of the answers ..haha
successful appliers? u mean how many are selected for the test? a few hundred i guess
then they'll short list abt 20+ ppl for an interview

format? sry, but i can't remember
for english, there's the grammar part, comprehension...
as for math, it's just subjective questions, like spm's add math
the test should be spm level as i did it right after my spm

u guys interested to furthur ur studies in japan?
well, i've applied for the MONBUKAGAKUSHO scholarship before, in year 2005 i think
u can download the application form from their website
firstly, u'll have to submit ur application
if u're selected, u have to sit for a test
the test subjects varies according to wht u choose to study
there's science and arts i guess
i went for the arts one..so i had to sit for math, world history and english tests
after that, they will short list abt 20+ candidates for an interview
i only got till the interview part, wasn't selected for the schorlarship though

hope that helps ^^
*
rclxms.gif i am so glad that i look into this forum..
i finished my spm last year and i want to apply for the MONBUKAGAKUSHO scholarships too..but when is the due date for that scholarship?
i am a science stream student but i want to take the arts subject. will that be harder for me to do the test?
what is the standard of the world history test? == We didnt get to study world history that much in our secondary school education isnt it?

QUOTE(bidfordun @ Feb 10 2007, 06:25 AM)
hoho, interested in studying in japan also? good good, help each other, but now what shud we do? helpless here, i think we really need those who have applied it b4 to show us some guidance.

btw bidfordun why japan has always been ur dream?
*
why it is freaking tough?
and by the way, which subject have the more advantage to get the scholarship? i mean the science subjects or art?

hmm... i wonder will the physic test in english medium? as i was in the last badge of students who have their science subjects (chemistry, physic and biology) in Bahasa Melayu medium, if they use english to test then i have to restudy all the form4 and form5 syllabus. doh.gif

if i m not mistaken, there r two kind of application:

1. Mail,using the ms word.

2.Online.no need to post anything.

we have to pick only 1 rite??
for mail,we have to fill it with comp or have it handwritten??
what's ur choice??
Closing:19 March. So it is obvious to use REAL spm result, rite??wat a waste scoring so well in TRIAL.IF the result is not out by then,so trial is possible rite??(think too much) hehe

I'm asking because the scholarship always come out and closed before the usual entrance to IPTA in Jun/July .. So, it's impossible to take any good scholarship after that day and as you know PTPTN the only choice there, I don't want to take the loan again .. sad.gif ... anyone know?

i think either way is ok.
just make sure you give the ACCURATE & answer all the questions.
i learn that if they see that there are some questions you don't answer properly, they just put away your application.

For all these scholarships, can I apply for subjects that I never took in SPM?

Eg, I didn't take econs for SPM but I plan to do a degree in it. Will I still be eligible to apply for the scholarships?

As far as i know, for SPM level, science stream students are eligible to apply for econs course, but non-science stream students are not eligible to further their studies in science field (Medic, Engineering, etc..). However, it is advisable that you consult the respective scholarship department

for those who would like to apply for scholarship / sponsorship, try to search and apply for different scholarship / sponsorship rather than focus on certain scholarship ( For example : JPA, etc).

Call them and tell us what they say.. They are very very nice. Japanese Embassy after all. If cannot, then just take A levels. More options available after that.

On one scholarship application form, they asked to "include a reference letter from your school principal". What exactly is it do they mean by that?

If I am not mistaken, it means ask your principle to write a letter of recommendation.

Yes, you submit a photocopy of your results with your school's chop and a signature of the headmaster/assistant headmaster/head of school.

Regarding the Monbukagukusho scholarship, can I have more details about it from whoever who applied it?

I suppose I met the minimum requirement but I have doubt for the written exam.

For better or worse, 89's is the last batch who studied in MALAY and I fear I might have prob with the language during the test. Altho my english isn't that bad, I'm afraid I can't translate the terms during the test. What's yr recommendation?

What's the Mathematics B? my maths skill is kinda poor, not the genius kind who can count with the brain and I'm terrible in add maths (B4 in SPM)

Will average SPM level's science knowledge suffice for the exam? After the SPM, I kinda forgot everything. If SPM's not enough, recommend to study STPM's just to sit for the exam ?

Sounds stupid but what you think of the possibility of a 9a's student to stand a chance for this scholarship? Maybe choose natural science A or natural science B.

SPM result: Physics A2, Chem A1, Bio A2

Love the Chemistry Engineering's name but ignorant to know what it is and what's the outcome =P (natural science A)

Supposed to be good and interested ( always got A1 in school) in Bio but only obtained A2 in SPM. (natural science B)

Is 134,00yen enough for survival? Heard cost of living in Japan is very high. Never been there to know if it's enough.

I'm thinking of ways to skip F6 as I do not feel like returning to my old school and I think I'm too average to excel in F6 as well as I might not be able to get a decent course when I'm out for local U.

I've no other option cause I'm too poor to afford college fees and that's the reason I'm being forced to F6.

Thnks a lot if anyone is able to assist.

Yes, if you are very frugal. But I am sure that you will looking for a job after a month. It is natural to want some luxuries and extra cash at hand.

What are your aspirations?

It is impossible to have 13400 yen a year and hope to survive. That's like surviving on USD 100 a year......RM 350 setahun boleh kah? I don't think it is 134000 yen a year either. It is unlikely to survive with that sum either.

sorry it's 134K yen (subject to change) a month. So is it enough?

My aspiration. Still uncertain.

I checked out chemical engineering's function. More like needing maths , physics and chem's skill. I suppose chem. engineer alters things we have nowadays. Biomedic, Biochem, they sound nice.

I wanted to be an inventor when I was young but my bro told me that you probably can't be an inventor anymore. We already have light bulb, we have telephone, we have airplane and etc. What else you can invent? Mostly products out of innovation. My imagination is sometimes wild but nah, not that creative to think of things too out of the box.

Arts is either by plagarism or revolution.

One question:

Is science field related profession realistic for career? Honest opinion needed. Science field related profession in malaysia I suppose has too little space for development. Am I right? So have to be very good to have chance to work in other countries

..then it wouldn't be much fun for having to work and study in JAPANESE at the same time. I don't think it's even easy to find a part time job like in Aus, I suppose it's even harder in Japan when i'm not a nihon-jin..bleh

For the JPA scholarship, why the never ask what course you want. They simply give one ar? Is actuarial sceince hard to get?

So far I have identified two scholarship that sponsor you all the way till you get your degree overseas with living expenses allowance. That is JPA and Monbukagakusho. Are there other? Does Petronas give living expense allowance? (For SPM holders)

For students (SPM holders) in local university (UTP, etc), Petronas offers RM6000 as allowance, RM3500 maximum for computer loan, RM800 for books and RM150 for accesories (annually). For those sponsored overseas students, the allowance should be higher i think hmm.gif

You have to download the form and print it out and post it. It has to arrive at the Embassy by the deadline. 1 second late and you can forget about getting the scholarship.

no ah... actually my cousin was rejected of jpa application. he then tried utar & applied scholarship in australia. both offered him. he chose australia in the end.

no. don't think petronas offers accomodation scholarship. Monbukagakusho has a better chance of covering those including air ticket.

Once I complete the JPA online form, what should I do? Do I need to send them some documents or whatever?

Here is another very good scholarship. Full scholarship all the way to degree overseas. www.uemworld.com.my
