The Sharp Smart Stretch is nothing new la. This mode stretches the sides more than the center to create an illusion that the person in picture is not too far stretched. They can do this on normal TV programs where the cameraman is sure to deadlock their object in the center of the frame. It doesnt work well for movies.

True. That' why if you see the 'crawler' at the bottom of the screen the wording will be bigger at each side biggrin.gif

Dun worry la. All LCD TVs are made equal because each panel kinda inherited the drawbacks of the technology itself. No matter how hard they mask it under layers of marketing, it will still look obvious, even on really expensive sets.

The dissapointment sets in when this whole HD novelty starts to wear thin. Most probably not on the quality of the set, but more on the value of acquiring such a novelty toy that somehow suddenly seems to be so redundant.

Yeah that's true - however each manufacturer will put in a few quirks of their own I suppose.

The novelty of HD won't wear thin as long as there's HD media to display, in my case, games for the 360. I don't really care for buying BD or HDDVD movies right now, but seeing Lost Planet or Gears on my LCD really brings a smile to my face smile.gif

biggrin.gif Good point also. Positive thinking. Btw, I think plasma is losing the war to LCD.

IMHO, a projection TV is a no-no. blush.gif Eventho the price is very attractive including the huge size, but in a long term run, u'll be dissapointed. Here's why:
-The PQ is not as sharp and bright as LCD/PLASMA panel.
-The light bulb hv to be change every 8k-10k hours of usage (trust me, it ain't cheap). While LCD/PLASMA panel will last for more than 60k hours.

Ok, just my 2 sen. icon_rolleyes.gif

Maybe because I've been console-centric for so long smile.gif so any jump in visual quality is so evident heheh.

Another problem is the short life span of the bulb. I f not mistaken, less than 10K hours. It cost about RM1.3K for a replacment. sweat.gif

hahaha....lord ashe..the best thing..u try checking it out the smart stretch technology for sharp tv on the retailers near u...let your eyes be the judge...and u can always googling on its features in the web too or asking the fellow sharp lcd tv owners about it...for me..it works super Ok..i dunno about others that do not own the sharp lcd tv, but keep complaining about it...again, no lcd tv is created equal...if not, might as well buying the cheapest 1...i keep wondering when non-lcd users keep complaining about the feature wise of lcd tc....i believe ..they should start buying it and experience it themselves rather than keep pointing the pros and cons of each brands...there is no doubt each has its strengths and weaknesses doh.gif sooossshh...to the troll... icon_rolleyes.gif

I am really curious on your above statement..i guess if all the lcd tv is created equal...i might be as well be buying the china brand lcd tv...and most of the videophile reviewers for the different models will be the same too (which is not true..as different model been rated differently by those videophile reviewers)...wonder if that statement is made out from your disappoinment that most people keep buying the lcd tv and start enjoying the HD worlds....which will never be redundant if u do own the xbox 360 or PS3...and can afford either the HD-DVD or BD movies..now, u r making me laugh on such a childish statement.... icon_rolleyes.gif

Am looking for 40" LCD with at least 2 HDMI ports without FULL HD support, 1368x768 will do.

Which brand would you all recommend? If budget wise which brand is the best to look for?

If you're looking at 40" then Sony has that size. Brands like Samsung, Sharp, etc are 42". All the mentioned brands has at least two HDMI port. The new Samsung comes with three if I'm not mistaken. Expect to pay more for Sony though. biggrin.gif

Put aside Sony, which is the best among Samsung, Sharp, Philips, LG and Panasonic ? By looking at 42" models.
