For all Standard Def material, its always better to reduce the sharpness.

Maybe Lord_ashe can give some feedback regarding that?

Maybe some Samsung and Sharp owners can chip in. IINM for 1366x768 LCD TVs, supported resolution sometimes doesn't go beyond 1024x768 - this happened to the LCD TV we have in the office.
*
I'm on a Samsung and my notebook's (thinkpad) able to output at 1360x768. Just make you sure you plug the cable in before adjusting the resolution. If the TV's not connected, it will only show the standard PC LCD resolutions.

Ah interesting. It may be handy to note the Philips only maxes out at 1024x768 for PC connections. For native 720p MPEG2 content I usually use the free upscaling DVD player I got since it supports MPEG1, MPEG2, DivX 3.11, DivX 4.x, DivX 5.x, DivX 6.0, DivX Ultra.

In that case, using a player (or PS3) would be the best case for this unit. Of course, if you can afford an LCD/plasma that supports higher PC resolutions that's much better.
*
Erm, 1024X768 is not native u know. There must be some settings that u missed.

Generally that's true. To be able to watch acceptable Astro on my LCD I've had to reduce the sharpness and also use the pan and scan mode. The same goes for DVDs too.

Pixel plus does help but it only shows the most effect on Pixel Plus2 and above (like my CRT)

my Sharp Aquos G7 has no problem to display 1920x1080 (1080p) on dot by dot setting for both of my PC (with Nvidia 7800GT) and Xbox 360 through its DVI-I input for both digital and analog connection....

hahaha...r u sure about it.with Monster s-video cable input + panorama setting+DNR on, the picture looks Super Ok to me..and just for your information...even with all sort of LCD technology such like pixel plus...it will never beat the PQ on CRT....the widescreen format of LCD itself requires the standard picture format for Astro to be stretched doh.gif

Most people don't fancy the black bars at the side eh? I rather have that then watching anything in stretch mode.

Hmmm....at first, i had that kind of impression too..but when i tested the panorama setting (intelligent stretching technology by Sharp), i was full of surprise and never intend to go back to the initial setting...... thumbup.gif

Agreed ! People look better in this mode compared with other brand (e.g samsung) which make the people look fatter rclxms.gif

Maybe it's exclusive to Sharp. I know I still have to watch Astro on 4:3 on my Philips - but then again it doesn't really bother me.

Ooo. I remember watching a slimfit when I was in a hotel once. It wasn't too bad actually for a widescreen CRT.
