Looking for a 32" LCD here.

From your discussions and my research,

I have shortlisted the
Sharp Aquos BX series for the s-vid and
Samsung R7 series.

I do not know which one is better.
Will be using for ASTRO + Movies sourced from you-know-where.
My budget can only go up to to RM4k maximum.
So my questions are

1. From the list, which one would be recommended for my usage?
2. Is there anything else you could recommend for 32" LCDs under RM4k
3. I have the Old ASTRO decoder, the old black one got in 2003, so what input should i be using, s-video or component
4. I might be considering purchasing a new DVD player as well, is it recommended if i opt for DVD players with HDMI if what I watch is just DVD-Rs? And Normal DVD9s?

cheers

I made a visit to a few electrical stores nearby and the salesman are so keen to sell me the Philips PHP-32PF7321, which comes with tempered glass and pixel plus and stuff whichever way they wish to call it. It's seems quite tempting for the offer but I smell something fishy, so I decided to come here first. Anyone got any ideas regarding the particular set?

PHP? I think it's the same model as mine. Just bought it last month. Got it with the free HDMI upscaling DVD player and 5 year warranty.

As the forumers here can tell you I've always been a fan of the Philips TVs.

My verdict after nearly a month:

HD quality is fantastic, especially on 360 (VGA) and PS3 thru HDMI.
Astro is meh, so I don't watch it on the LCD. I prefer to use my CRT Philips for that.
DVDs are dependent on the quality of the DVD (some good some not so good). Upscaling will improve your experience.

Checking on the specs, the dynamic contrast at 3200:1 is rather low IMHO. Other than that, the specs seems quite okay. I have this distinct feeling that the salesman are trying to clear stock and cut me short by telling 'sometimes, contrast ratio are not so important'. That's what that made me feel a little worried.

About the upscalling players, let's say I got a HD content gotten from you-know-where with 720p sources. I burn it into DVD-R and play it. So what you guyz here say is that the upscaler will improve the quality?

Ok, I have a 5 years old PC and would like to hook it up to the LCD tv once I got it to watch 720p content encoded in MPG-2 format. I was wondering if this is possible to do since my GPU is rather old and would the PQ be nice?

Ah interesting. It may be handy to note the Philips only maxes out at 1024x768 for PC connections. For native 720p MPEG2 content I usually use the free upscaling DVD player I got since it supports MPEG1, MPEG2, DivX 3.11, DivX 4.x, DivX 5.x, DivX 6.0, DivX Ultra.

In that case, using a player (or PS3) would be the best case for this unit. Of course, if you can afford an LCD/plasma that supports higher PC resolutions that's much better.

Any ideas what is the resolution for the Samsung R71 and Sharp Aquos PX when connecting PCs to these? Can't seem to find any info on the manufacturer's site

Maybe Lord_ashe can give some feedback regarding that?
