Job Title : IT Manager
Job Desciption : Manage a team of 10 IT techies and 3 admins, report to IT director
Company : University
Industry : Education
Tenur : permanent
Employment Level : Manager
Experience before joining : None
CUrrent year with Company : 3 years 9 months

Since i'm the interviewer, i would like to give my own opinion here.
Dont expect much at the very beginning especially salary. My starting pay was only 1.6k and i'm still working in this company.

Eagerness and willingness to learn is very important. Dont just work hard, must be work smart. Dont just wait for opportunity, go capture opportunity or better still go create opportunity. Never say enough, in IT technology there is no such word as i've learn enough, keep updating yourself.

might be hiring new techies soon =)

cheers

gal working in civil n construction must be so hard.. right? coz my company civil engineer is working so hard.. hav to go over to site everyday..
*
I'm in construction at a cetain stage though not eng., ... if youre a girl, prove ure as strong, and confidant as any guy doing civil, assuming u know ur stuff la. Other than that, I notice most would resign to a differant occupation. But... If you want to put your hard earned degree to the metal, best start somewhere like inhouse Developer companies, they have their own eng architects draughting team multimedia etc. I noticed the last company I joined had a girl entered. Nice person, but to bad, she was all pretty the first day, come by 3 months, and her hair is all scrawny pouring over a calculator and dwgs, and what she sometimes cant do all the time is justified by what she can do, so dont worry about the sites, there are plenty of guys out there who would love to get out of the office for a smoke and a contractor-blanja-lunch, Im sure your contribution to any team would be greatly appreciated and deserved. Remember, Inhouse Developer Firms. Good luck. thumbup.gif

Anyone were working as a 3D animator here? I'm interested in this kind of work, such as creating special effect on advertisement etc. And how much is the pay roll? any change to gain a upgrade and so so???
*
Job Title : (Freelance) Graphic/Architectural Designer/Animator/Webdesigner
Current Age: 24
Job Desciption : Anything Multimedia, Architecture, Interior, arts, graphic - pretty much learning one thing and picking up a hundred others... makes u feel satisfied of ur accomplishments in each project.
Company : RHFCreations (based - PG, KL, JHR)
Industry : Service... speacialist, and most probably Arts.
Tenur : Permanant
Employment Level : ~
Experience before joining : very good experience and confidance in the above said in Job Description, minimum I guess is... a month just in case
salary : RM1200/night (overal depends on project scale, quality, and timeframe)

Finding it hard to fill in my job description above, I felt the urge to post this extra peice just to share some stuff. Just in case if ure wondering what kind of job this is, well its a self motivated kinda thingy and its up to me to decide for how long and how far. U know how some people say that the higher u study the better ur future looks, well after reading all the posts I kinda wanted to share what I did with my little self. Did u notice tht experience has become kinda the only reason why ur boss would pay u good money only to slice it because uve not got a good degree? Well I sort of took that scenario as my platform for precaution in case i didnt get a good degree and no experience.

I guess what I'm gonna post here would be enlighting to those who are just taking their first step after SPM, a time of choices, or currently thinking if they're getting all the A's would they live happily ever after or otherwise?

I'm a Part 2 graduate in Architecture, means I can practice knowledge, consult deisgns and ideas, but cant conclude a contract with my signature or setup my own practice. I didnt go all the way to part 3 (yet, but planning to) because like some, at the time I was short of money (my dads a consultant but he prefers me learning life the hard way) and wanted to try alot of things (cars, powerful rigs, tech stuff, not girls coz i think highly of them - 7 sisters u know blink.gif )

I realised this when I entered first year, saw that most of the students were all just learning the shit which I had already twiddled during my spm holidays with my NEC VERSA 2600 so I guess when I entered, it was like kindergarten. Enjoyed myself helping people, coz it gained me some level of respect, not only among my classmates but also my peers.

Then I noticed tht my course is gonna take too long before I even c 2.5k basic. its 5 years (3+2) if u didnt know already, so I honed my skills in animation and 3d renderings coz tht was the hots in the market of the time... 1999-2000 like tht.

Tried my luck working in a few architect firms being their lap dog for 200-500 a month during my 2nd yr, from photcopier then promoted to printerer, during my final months was I then shown the industries requiremants. Applied it in my studies and it got me A's easily and into my second and final degree for architecture. Then a year later wanted to test my confidance so I joined up with a developer firm and was their designer as well as their animator. Wow, I got 2.5k through bullshitting them about my experience which I had only as a hobby (Guess it was because i gave them ISO9002, was good looking and fluent tongue.gif ). that time i was only in the 4th yr of my studies. Left that dumb company later after a few months because It sucks being a high lap dog only earning tht much doing work like as if the dateline was always tommorow, which wasnt whereas at night I would be doing some freelance jobs for others for that same amount a night. Seems I pengaruh my whole department who resigned within the same week as me whistling.gif . heheh serves the company right. But then I bumped into a fren, my senior, who was getting married n he told me he wanted me to join his company giving freedom to do anything i want and getting the income at 100% per job (the market was to heavy for a one man show at that time), it was the one I mentioned at the top. Seems what i wanted was there, to earn for what I love doing, animation and design...

So now I'm graduated and earning too much at 24. Opened up a few more companies tht were like that one, BSD, ADG for contract purposes but hey, I'm having fun with my SUPER RIG's and GREAT CARS now. Still we cant beat the 'Malaysian Friday' guys because those guys are high end (gua tabit lu all), but untuk meringkaskan the whole thing I wrote, if u have it in u to push ur skills to their max, espeacially in design and animation, dont wait for an office pay, start learning some Sosial Engineering as Mitnick would say and know the RIGHT people (those who can at least give u good input and right directions, not waste ur time over pointless assumptions), coz by the end of the day, u dont want to work for ur debts, but for ur pleasure.

PS: BTW anyone can learn these things i do and using it to their hearts content, the younger the better, its just a matter of learning it and exploiting it, thts all Cheers and Good Luck

This is what I don't get. Why Age is important esp. from most employers? I wish the current labor laws in Malaysia or Singapore prohibit employers from even asking Age when hiring like those in other developed western countries.

Guys, you all are so well in your salary oledi, after u see mine, you all should feel happy with your current salary.

Job Title : Systems Support
Job Description : Supporting everything that can be installed under MS-platform, network, servers, PC repair, fix, full support on hardware and software (over 300-400 PC), printers, answer calls, onsite support, 1 word saying is everything!
Company : Well known company (from Japan)
Industry : Electronics
Work for: 11months (1 year)
Employment Level : Lowest for Office staff
Experience before joining : none
salary : RM 1.2 (NO OT, NO allowance, NO benefits), Annual Bonus oni get few hundred ringgit
Working hours: 8 to 5.40pm (Mon-Fri), sometimes SAT (also 8-5.40pm)

So, you guys see my painfull now..
The reason i can't go is because i'm under 2 yrs contract,

Even a clerk, call center ppl salary is much much more higher than me. If i left the company before contract ends, the company will dispose all my 2 yrs salary. Tat means i work for nothing.

Everyday now i'm like working in a jail environment. seriously, no 1 here appreciate your work!

-- siggy removed --
*
Just to update mine..
Currently now i've already work for 1 year 3 months..
Salary increase from 1.2k to 1.3k now.. others still the same..

well, 1 of my colleague was finish his contract this month (08/Dec), but then, company can't find ppl yet, i mean can't able to find ppl with the expected salary of 1.2k or 1.3k.. So, company ask him stay until end of the month.

But later, company call him again, and ask him whether can stay until end of January bcoz they still cannot find ppl yet. But wat i think is, will it still have ppl write their expected salary lower than 1.5k now? Gossh... this company is damn s..cks. Even my friend last time ask for 1.6k, the company also need to wait until the last minutes where no one else apply then only hire him.

Well, that not all, when u work in the office, life is more terrible..
Imagine, i'm the only person who support over 300-400 PCs in this big factory, from office to production, up n down (management).. troubleshooting os, software, hardware, application and sometimes even those manager home pc they bring it to me to fix...

haha.. if that is the worst thing, then this is more worst..
Working in IT department, there is actually 'empty'! No new PC, no new hard disk, no this no that, wat a s..uck boss, but when he need all those stuff, he'll ask me.

Boss: "eei, last time ma got this got that geh? again no more ar"
me: "Where got, i never seen b4 we have such thing, we didnt buy!"

No new PC also nevermind, but old PC also dun have, guys, as a technician, how i do my work? department is totally empty bcoz of no budget. Buying a 40GB hard disk also need to consider and wait next month budget..

-------------------------

i wanted to ask whether my position can get how many pay after 2 years suffering here? will i able to get at least 2.5k?
well, thanks for reading...

Accounts Executive, aged 25 years old, salary : RM 2.4k is considered quite ok. I was earning less than 2.4k when I was your age...but then we are not the same.

Accounts line don't usually get a lot because...too many a/c grads & cost center dept. (but then a lot of leng luis in a/c dept.)

that's why I left accounting and I'm now doing SAP FICO.
*
well, i can foresee that's the fix income for the rest of my life if i dun start to do something now on...

wow, SAP? mind to tell me how u get yourself in to SAP consultancy line? and what's the pre-requisite?

the reason i still stay in this lousy so called MNC company is the Group plan to introduce SAP soon, just as the other branch over-the-world.

So hopefully, i can get some guidance from you~ drool.gif

tq

Sorry for nick pick. You meant you are an outsourcee (aka contract worker), not outsourcing. Correct? biggrin.gif

IMO, being a contracter is nice. You work on your own schedule and as long you deliver your products and make your clients happy, the paycheck will keep coming.

Just wondering, if you're located in Malaysia and work via telecommute, do you have to pay deductations like: EPF, Socso, Taxes?
