QUOTE(DarReNz @ Nov 19 2007, 12:54 AM) i am also wondering the difference between doing MBA right after your degree compared to having working experience say 3yrs and doing MBA ...... This has been discussed to death in the MBA thread. In short though, good schools will require a minimum age/experience level before you can join the MBA program. You're supposed to learn about practical business in an MBA program, learning from each other. The professor/lecturer acts as a facilitator, to facilitate the discussion. If you join in without any experience, the discussion is based only on theory. I wouldn't suggest getting an MBA unless you have some experience already, and I wouldn't hire anyone with an MBA without experience. |

LOL, you must be really agitated when you wrote that. I do think that an MBA will give you an edge in the end of the day no matter when you do it. But, people will consider the opportunity cost of doing the MBA straight after graduation, which is most often associated with work experience.

stevenlee, I'm just stating my opinion based on my experience. Maybe my standards are different from yours, but I hire a fresh grad for his or her technical skills, whether it's IT, accounting or architecture. Business theory is to me not enough if you don't have a strong enough non-business background already. So after this person has proven himself in a technical environment, that there is sufficient progression for example, then the MBA comes next.
Again this is what I practice, the guys I see aren't too bright to begin with |

QUOTE(stevenlee @ Nov 19 2007, 08:05 PM) then why ppl hire degree when they dun have working exp??? My view is as of tishaban.fresh grad from MBA doesnt mean they need to pay much...this is just to separate those degree and mba...now u can see degree is all over the place....u are just goin fight with so many ppl... with working experience u can apply at course... but MBA not just business admin la even the sound is business administration ..it cover whole business process...from hr to finance from local to international..no matter u work how many years...ur working experience not even more than 50% use in the course... then mostly use is the corelation formula using during ur degree... who still remember when u not using ur corelation formula during working ...work life dont use that... use still remember after 5 years???? if your parent can afford just go for MBA...when u grad u have better chance compare to degree and moving up faster than u rather waste ur 3 years time doin part time where u can finish in 1 year and 3 month... It used to be a great acknowledgment during the older days and MBA is considered quite prestiges. But nowadays, it had became too common and honestly speaking, most graduates I interviewed or came across doesn't even know what business is all about. Basically sticked to their "text book", but do not know how to apply. There's once my boss purposely hired a MBA fresh grad because the concept of "underpaying" the grad do do the job. Also in hope that he would bring impact and changes to the department. But sorry to say, it proves to be a failure because out in the field is totally different from the books. I'm not all out against MBA fresh grads; but one needs to apply what they've learned. Thus it's always easier for one to have working experience before going into MBA course and graduating from it. Personally I would not recommend ppl to study MBA straight after completing their degree course. btw, out of curiosity what paper did you wrote on in your final thesis? Or it's all based on coursework and course assignments? |

QUOTE(Living_Cafe @ Nov 18 2007, 12:20 PM) Can a degree fresh grad with second lower (CGPA lower than 3.0) work offshore as well? For me, grade is just an easy ticket for u to get an interview. But most of the time it depend on luck as well. Cuz alots of ppl are saying Second lower (lower than 3.0) = usless papper. I wonder what is my chances of getting a job in oil and gas. Can u give some advise please... Offshore requires a person who can do their job independently and knows exactly what he is doing, as there are not enough space to accommodate a lot of people out there. Therefore you got to have related working background onshore first in order to work offshore. For big company such as Jay Ray McDermott, Shlumberger, Baker Huges, Fugro, Halliburton, Shell and ect. the grade is a must before you can even be considered for an interview. But after you gain some experience offshore, I'm quite confidence you could switch any company you'd prefer of. Rite now experience people is hard to come by especially the oil price is increasing rapidly. Most people opt to become a freelancer thou, more flexible and more money as well. What is ur background anyway? |
