From my view it is good to stick to the basic like rippetoe program, as there is only 4 excercise. you can familiar with the movement pretty fast Bodybuilding program involve too much of exercise, newbie might get confused with it(unless he/she get someone experience guide them) and after they learn the basic, they will got a decent base and knowledge, and free to go to something else
most of the bber in my gym never train their leg. improper program lo Agreed with you, but that takes time to experience it XD
The problem with cookie cutters is, you're pressured to hit a target poundage. What if you're feeling a lil' under the weather on that day? It'll demoralize the trainee if they can't hit the target. It might predispose them to injuries. It might foster the concept that only poundage is conducive to growth, to the point where they get so obsessed with it, that's all they're aiming for. I got into the trap too. I got injured.
I stuck with instinctive training, before long I'm hitting poundages which even Terry said is considered heavy, and i didn't even set any poundage target. The strength gains will come. Strength is secondary for bb'ers, hypertrophy first.

Heh.... Everyone does. I had it worse. Left lat tear from its insertion point, rotator cuff injury and an operation for 2 discs in my back. But that was long back. Now a lot wiser.

Jesus.
In a way I'm thankful I got injured earlier on. Served as a wake up call for me. Even so, my injury hasn't fully healed yet and it's a real b-tch. =/
See.... the thing is, don't follow this exactly. One thing Terry says about bodybuilding is go by feel. Instinctive training. Sometimes you feel a lil bit under the weather, so just hit it up with higher reps and lighter weights. If you're feeling particularly strong, go for PR's but poundages are NOT something you should be paranoid about.
What separates a successful bb'er from a newbie is not only the training, but the ability to know their body, to ditch what doesn't work for them and to apply and modify things which exactly suits them. But certain things do apply. Low reps all the time is a no-no. Go for the pump, always the pump = blood flow, fascia stretching, nutrient transport, I'm sure you know these basics.
True, used to be too systematic, follow the reps and stuff and in the end still wondering why those muscle stop growing and stuff. Only i realized when i came across an article saying the thing tat we always lack of is the effort and yeah tats the pump thinggy i m lacking of, the groaning final 2 reps.

Yes, always go for the pump no matter what. But not bunny weights la. Lol. Young bb'ers tend to get too caught up in minor details. It's just common sense, if an exercise isn't working for you, don't do it. Simple right? =P Fascia stretching concept has been around for decades, the old school bb'ers didn't know how to explain it in scientific terms yet.
What injury? I was away from forums for a while so I might have missed it.
Uh, I pulled/strained something in my lower back. Went to an orthopedic surgeon to make sure I hadn't slipped a disc or anything, and thankfully I hadn't. But because of this, arching or bending my back to a certain degree causes me quite a bit of pain and stuff that involves lots of twisting/turning or 'explosive' movements like football or sprinting makes it hurt a lot later in the day, or the next day.

I had that lower back injury? Geez... when i sneezed i would collapse on the ground from the pain. Same thing when i coughed. That bad.
So i brought my girl to see Terry yesterday at his gym. Lol... showed her his newspaper clips and bb trophies he put at his gym. Do you know whenever i train there, i feel a lot stronger. It's something about that place, you just know that a lot of pro bodybuilders have touched those dumbells, it's weird but i feel like some of that strength is in the feel of the weights. So much history there. First time i went there i was literally in awe of that place, it impressed me a lot more than commercial gyms ever would.

On bad days, I'd be on the floor after sneezing as well.
