wazzaaaaaa runners

im on the last phase of quitting smoking(one cig a day/every few days) gonna go full quit now. been exercising and what not trying to improve my cardio fitness lvls iuh and in the process of losing weight as well, down to 77 from 110 last year.

so yeah, right now i can only jog for about 10-15 minutes tops without stopping before i feel like dying. so yeah, what should i do so that i can join my first half marathon next year, soemtime around june(and does that seem like a realistic goal?) or hopefully sooner.

When I was cycling, I used running as a way to keep fit whenever I couldn't ride, when my bike was undergoing maintenance, etc. But back then (mid 90's), we have this sort of urban legend among cyclists: that if we do other activities like running or playing soccer, we'd spoil our legs. But I still run & play soccer & even sepaktakraw. My shoes back then was a Nike Crosstrainer.

About 2 years back, I started running again, this time as part of my new fitness routine tht includes weights. I didn't wanna spend too much on running shoes (becoz I was playing soccer & basketball as well). so I just bought BATA shoes. Last year I bought my first ever true running shoes, the Mizuno Crusader 2 & I liked it a lot. I still use it as my trainer & I've decided tht I'm not gonna run in races more than 15K (for the time being). This year I bought another Mizuno, the Wave Aero, a racer. My next shoes shud be a Mizuno as well. Why Mizuno ? I like the brand since I was 13 (when Selangor started using Mizuno football kits) & so far the shoes worked fine for me. rclxms.gif

I really want to try out saucony and brooks, got to stop looking into a those very well hyped branded "whats in a name" shoes.

I mainly use brooks for my running shoes, and i have to admit it's because they dont cost much. but that doesn't mean they are lousy shoes, in fact i wont trade them for any other brand. as a whole their range won't cost more than 250 if u know whr to look. the shoes i buy are all around 180 in price as i am a regular customer of the seller la... but they still only cost about 200. btw i use the st racer series as trainers and t-series as racers. smile.gif

No doubt about it, Brooks are priced very competitively and yet their technology is good and if not better than those big brands. I have runners who choose Brooks and Saucony (as the alternative brand and vice versa) bcos I reckon both brands offer value for money and performance as well.

did u got check what's ur foot type? is ur Asics suite to ur foot type?
*
QUOTE(triple02 @ Aug 10 2009, 07:55 AM)
check your foot type mate, GT 2120 are for support and cushioning, its mainly for runners who under-pronate, the feet type is associated with this are flat to mild flat..

so get the assistant to to a foot test for you...of if not do a wet feet test and post the pictures here, we'll be able to advise what type of feet you have..
*
ya, i got them to check for me. they said mine is flat to normal. more on flat.

anyhow since i already bought the shoes i didnt regret a bit cause i feel so comfortable the whole day walking around college without feeling discomfort. icon_idea.gif

yay! another satisfied Asics user! tongue.gif

do remember this Asics takes sometime to break into, due to its cushioning and support it needs to mould according to your feet and of course you need to get used to it as well,

so if you feel slight aches on your foot during the first few runs its probably due to your shoe where the cushioning is still hard, my Asics took at least about 50KM to break into after that fantastic,

using Brooks as my trainer pairs though

thumbup.gif see! slow and steady tongue.gif treadmills are boring, if u hv time on the treadmill i m sure u hv time to walk/run around ur housing area?

cross training are activities like cycling, swimming, fast walking, on days u dun run... allows u to exercise, burn fat, keep ur stamina in tact..
i m sure u can find a more definitive meaning if u google tongue.gif

sometimes during sales like in Istean, u can get some good discount on older ASICS model (if u dont mind its one or two season behind, ie shoes that are mfg 1.5 to 2 yrs ago) I got the GT2110 and 2120 at ard RM200 and still using them for shorter runs.
