Hi guys, i have analysed the rates quite thoroughly and i have concluded that the prepaid plan may not be as attractive as it may seem.

First, i am a light phone users who makes very few voice calls. Although i am currently a non maxis user, i have calculated that my monthly call charges under the hotlink prepaid fee structure is around the region of RM 30 per month.

Thus,
iphone 32G (prepaid) + (RM30x12)= RM2990 + RM360 = RM 3350
iphone 32G (ivalue 1) + (RM100 x12) = RM2290 + RM1200= RM RM3490

So, the difference as u can see is RM 3490 - RM 3350 = RM 140= only 4%!!, which isn't particularly attractive when you consider the massive 333 minutes of call minutes that comes with ivalue 1.

What do you think?
*
I think I have the same situation like yours, but as you said you're light phone users, how you going to utilize the 333 minutes? And don't forget one of the big problem with iValue plan is it don't offer any number of SMS in the plan, and will charge RM0.10 per SMS, which is consider very expensive. For my situation, I don't talk much but do text a lot (not sure if it's the same for you or not), it will definitely cost more than RM100 for monthly payment. If prepaid do not offer any free data transfer, then yes, iValue plan is more worth it, but since prepaid offer 500mb monthly data transfer, I will say the comparison is neck to neck, for those prefer talk much, should go for contract, for those text a lot one should go with prepaid.

@paco,

Yes i agree with you that the comparison is neck to neck. THe fact that ivalue plans do not include free sms is one big weakness but it does allow one to be more liberal in making voice calls. I guess if one still prefers the ivalue plan then they may want to pay extra RM8 for 500 sms to maxis phones each month. But what i want to point out is that prepaid plan isn't as fabulous a plan as it appears to be. The gap between prepaid and ivalue plans is marginal and decreases when one makes more voice calls on a prepaid. But like you say, for those who sends more sms than making calls, prepaid is probably slightly ahead.

The RM8 for 500 sms to maxis phones still not seems to be good enough.. as there's still a lot of other telco out there which we might send SMS. Don't know why Maxis always offers the plans that lacking something... shakehead.gif

well myself was a SMS type of guy, i was also been wondering which plan should i go for, but after thinking for awhile i decide is best that i stick back to prepaid, since it cheaper for my usage, and the data is free ... some more Hotlink Reward gives free SMS by converting ur points, so it just suit me well..

my average usage per month was below RM30, some times even below RM20...

@paco,
Well, I'm sure there is no perfect plan by any operators in the world. What they can do is to provide a plan suitable for you. What you see as insufficient might not be the same for others (although I notice plans provided by local operators are quite limited) smile.gif

@mamet,
You need to define 'cheap' by yourself. Someone will prefer getting a bundle unit with plan and still call it cheap. So you should judge it by yourself (your preference, financial, etc). BTW, this thread is for discussion on rates plan, if you want to ask for more opinions then please do it in this thread.

@elico,
Well, you got the same plan as me tongue.gif Since I knew that my monthly usage is below RM50, so I better get a prepaid plan. Even if my usage become higher in the future, I can still choose my prefer plan of choice (iValue Plus 50, 80, etc).

the pricing really is a subjective matters

on the plan case, if there is an option like "iValue RM50" which include SMS in it, then i think many ppl will prefer that plan, especially prepaid users... and again this is just "IF"

but in the end of course everyone wants to have the part of benefits, that includes Maxis, not all plan suit everyone

@muman7,
Launch & collection dates are separate. If you set your collection date to 31st Jul U can only pick it up from 31/7 onwards + 14 days thereafter, U can't pick it up anytime earlier.

@herryx,
We appreciate if you don't spam here; it's a lot of work having to clean up spams here biggrin.gif

@paco,
Obviously Maxis's going to jaga their own pocket first, right?! Also, this time around at least it's opened an iData plan; last year there wasn't even an iData plan to begin with biggrin.gif

@nitsujyuen,
I'm sure if they can accommodate they will accommodate biggrin.gif Also, if stock levels are low it'll always be first come first serve basis.

@elico:
the whole iValue plans caters to those who calls a lot and utilise data on their iPhones. therefore, SMS usage is not included. i think those who SMS & call usage are in the moderate level, should take up for iData or Hotlink.

there's no point getting iValue when you hardly use up to those stated free minutes for calls and get charged extra for SMS. smile.gif

@tink:
glad that you're back! the thread is lost without you. biggrin.gif

Just paid my deposit over at Machines, guess I can count myself as one of the late ones. The store owner was telling me that bookings are through the roof, there are already hundreds upon hundreds of ppl expecting to pick it up on the 31st morning.

Asked him how he is going to deal with crowd control (first come first serve, sequential registration ordering, etc), but they have no clue how to do it yet. Am worried about possibility of getting my unit on time, as I don't want to deal with a long queue when I get there. They don't even have enough units in store to cater for the volume of 31st pick-ups.

Consider this a public service announcement smile.gif Be there early, expect long lines on the 31st.

@teikwing,
From where I'm seated, it looks like everything's under control here with you and davidgary73 being hard at work here *smiles* but it's good to be back too biggrin.gif

@Kelly_Gabui,
I'm pretty sure everyone who's booked a unit will want to make their collection on the 31st. You're definitely right about not having sufficient stocks to cater to everyone but that's a Maxis problem so all U need to do is to be there early to get your i3GS biggrin.gif

@nitsujyuen,
If U don't want the long queues then go only early August - that would give the kiasu ones time to have gotten their units biggrin.gif

I've been confused about hotlink monthly top up, some said rm10 can activate your hotlink for 2 months but others said rm10 is just valid for 7 days only rclxub.gif

currently I'm using celcom xpax and planning to "porting" my number to hotlink but feel some sentimental nostalgic due to been using it for almost 10 years

just booked my iphone 3gs. a question here, wonder if it's a waste that using the iphone without the data plan? as i can see most of the applications need to feed with data.

Normally, how much data used for normal internet browsing thru iphone? Like check email, read newspaper and facebook etc?

@1337n00b,
If Ur planning to port ur number the number will still be the same hence no losing of this 'sentiment' isn't it?!

As to monthly hotlink top up, it's best if U referred to www.maxis.com.my for more information.

@Claudio,
It's possible to use the i3GS as a mere phone but it's a lot of $ to be spending without using it's features. As to how much data U will need, we all don't know - we're still figuring it out but nokia2003 did say he is on a 250MB plan and he's frequently on data services and he's not exceeded his quota of 250MB p/month so we're at the moment taking that as our benchmark.

Subscription is RM33 (one time) + RM30 (min top-up within 1st 6 months) = RM63
**Both will ensure your prepaid line will be valid 24/7 to receive the 500mb data bundle!

@claudio:
yes. it would be a waste! data usage is essential for iPhone.

which plan did you went for? even the prepaid plan comes with 500MB of free data usage per month for a year.

Data Usage:
QUOTE
> Is iData/iValue's 500MB data bundle sufficient for casual surfing?
- Yes. Based on feedback from few forummers, Facebook, YouYube, IM, Surfing, Apps download and updates take up roughly 500MB per month. Just an estimation though. If you're an heavy user on downloads and YouTube, do take up higher capacity data bundle.
(Note that the allocated data per month is fixed for every month and cannot be carried forward)

do read up the CAQ sections on the first page alright? all the critical and helpful information are there.

and like what tinkberbel has mentioned, it all boils down to your usage. smile.gif

I saw from here that the launching date is 28/7. But went to Maxis Center in Miri, they say is not true and will stick at 31/7. How come like that?

For all your information, 28th is the launching date for i3gs, and 31st is the collection date...launching and collection is both diff thing...

I never read that, it's the maxis centre rep that told me so, cause she is involved in the road show for the launching, but god knows where is the launching, cos i nv bother asking =)

and FYI, it has been mentioned over and over again that this thread is meant for discussion on rate plans only. all matters concerning registration, booking, launch etc. shall be discussed here.

@Claudio,
There're so many cool features on iPhone 3GS, it is a better version of iPhone 3G, longer battery life, faster application navigate, better camera, video recording features etc. People tend to pay more focus on net surfing, but for me it's more to music and video device. So it's never really 'waste' if not do much surfing cause I believe most of us should have desktop/laptop if want to do long time Internet surfing.

thanks for all the reply mates. well i'm actually a digi subscriber, so to utilise the 500mb of free data from hotlink, i will need to switch sim card every now and then... quite hassle for that though. Am comtemplating of whether should i take up the digi's unlimited data plan or not which that will cost additional 66.
