Since my SCB application failed, I requesting a credit-limit increase on my current HLB Gold Visa, I'm just asking the limit to be increased from RM9500 to RM15000, yet it still failed and I requested for a reason, but CS told me they can't do anything, all the application is subject to the management approval or things like that...I can't believe it as I'm holding this card for close to 4.5 years, and nv ever has a late payment and all the time I'm settle the full amount.

Anything I could do? I've got myself both recent print-outs from CCRIS and CTOS...recently I've a transaction online and believe it or not, I need to transfer money to my HLB account to clear up the limit issue so that the new transaction can go thru successfully.

I'm looking for a replacement card for the HLB now and will nv ever turn back...

Hi all,
I've a fraud case back in early 2008 with MBF card coz I lost my card without realising it, so I guess someone took the card and swipe extensively at all Petrol Kiosk in Puchong back then (in a day he/she might swipe up to RM700 splits into multiple transaction), till I receive a call from the bank stated I've outstanding bills only I got to find out the issue.

Immediately I filed for a police-report and appeal to the bank stated these are not my transaction, appeal went on and on and they still said its my responsibility to settle the amount as I didn't take care of my own card :-(, fine then, during my 3rd appeal, I received a court-case letter from the said bank, to avoid any troubles, I just made the full settlements.

I thought everything went fine, till recently I went to applied SCB Platinum, I'm meeting and actually exceeding their eligibility by quite a margin, and yet it failed stated I've a record at CTOS, last 2 days I made myself available and went to get my printout for both CTOS and CCRIS, I've perfect record for CCRIS, but this mentioned case is in CTOS, but has been closed and remark with "Debt fully settled".

You can go back to SCB sales guy who attended to you and present him the CTOS printout and maybe a copy of the police report than. He would than do the rest seeking for "deviation" or pressuring the underwriters to approve. The sales guy would obviously go all out as approval of a plat card usually meant more commission for them. wink.gif

Print out the newspaper court ruling and show it to the bank. Tell them how upset you are and you will tell everybody how you are being treated. Drag their name through the mud and since you are telling the truth, they can't sue you.

May or may not work but you still have some sense of satisfaction. No harm trying.

Give me your email address and I send a copy of that newspaper to you. Or try to google for that report yourself.

Just call them and ask u want additional credit. They will do it for you. No question ask. But Mr creed is looking for 15k CL so nothing need to be done. I hope this will be your solutions creed! smile.gif

I am surprised that you were not given increase CL as you claimed you have been paying in full. How about you asking for upgrade to HLB Plat since you qualify for SCB Plat. Another option, write an email to HLB and let them know your dissapointment.

SCB is quite stringent, apply with other banks. Next time you go 1U and Midvalley, stop by the many credit card booths and apply for all, sure you get 1 card. If you have FD with a particular bank, try apply CC with that bank and state the account number their your easy reference.

SCB is hard lor. My JustOne card also cannot approve because of cannot contact my maxis number. vmad.gif

My usages is averages in 2k monthly, but sometimes if there's impulsive purchase then its different, I'm also qualify for the HLB Plat, but since credit-limit increase also failed I doubt my Platinum app will go thru, to be honest, no point to write an email, I just got enough of their services.

* vampbreak
You meant the Miau bank Petronas Visa give 20k credit limit? that's just a gold card, may be you're VIP that's the reason :-)

* b00n
I've provided release-letter from the said bank (not CTOS printout) before, and I felt insulting by keeping appeal to get something that I deserved in the first place, I requested them to check the CTOS as I'm very sure even there's a record, its from my case and it has been settled and I've got the release letter, still my application failed

*Optiplex330
Appreciate your advise, I might just write-in to their customer service, if I can get back some compensation I'll treat u a nice dinner, please send the print-out to my email as per my PM to you this morning

I'm only having 1 credit-card (HLB), and 1 charge-card, I'm thinking of having 1 card to replace my HLB, and then an extra for backup purpose :-), guess I'll be busy tomorrow to decide which card I want as I'm on leave.

@vampbreak,
Y would U need RM23k CL when ur bill's <RM500! tongue.gif *Show Off* j/k tongue.gif

@creed,
U could always check if HLB can give u an increase in CL. Otherwise try to get from a local bank - perhaps they're less strict?

A recently court decision has ruled, in cases like yours, the limit is RM250. This is the law of Malaysia and override any contract the card company may impose on you.
*
Please understand, a Court Decision is only precedent setting but not retrospective binding. Further, to use the above ruling without knowing or understanding fully the judgement rationale is very misleading as circumstances may differ rolleyes.gif

Clause 13.2 of Bank Negara's Credit Card Guideline:

"The cardholder's maximum liability for unauthorised transactions as a consequence of a lost or stolen credit card shall be confined to a limit specified by the issuer of credit cards, which shall not exceed RM250 provided the cardholder has not acted fraudulently or has not failed to inform the issuer of credit cards as soon as reasonably practicable after having found that his credit card is lost or stolen."

Pretty clear to me the bank is breaking AN EXISTING law when they asked you to pay. It does not matter whether the bank break the law tomorrow or last year. It is still breaking the law so go tell the bank that. Tell them, to refund your money or else you go report them to Bank Negara or sue them. It is an offense for the bank to knowingly break the law.

The statement "provided the cardholder has not acted fraudulently or has not failed to inform the issuer of credit cards as soon as reasonably practicable after having found that his credit card is lost or stolen" depending on how its proven or interpreted leaves a lot to the imagination. Sorry, dig back a bit. If refer to this MBB Amex:
Maybankard American Express Gold

At the bottom of that page:
Read our credit card agreement (PDF)
It is stated clearly MBB Visa, MBB Mastercard and MBB Amex are referred as Credit Card.

It is not mentioned MBB Amex is a Charge Card category.
On the other side, it is not mentioned about the above agreement for Charge Card, e.g.
American Express Gold Card

Added on July 8, 2009, 12:19 pm

Yes, that's my understanding from reading this thread, Charge Card thread and also my own research on MBB Amex and Amex's Amex.

Added on July 8, 2009, 12:20 pm

Good info.

Added on July 8, 2009, 12:23 pm

This means:
1) MBB Amex can only offer Amex Credit Card
2) Amex's Amex can offer both Amex Charge Card and Amex Credit Card

Right ?
*
Oh well.... lets just say for layman term, Maybank Amex are labeled as credit card and American Express are labeled as charge card...mainly due to their difference in the priviliges..
But for more technical term, its still working like 80% as a charge card, minus 20% for those extra priviliges tongue.gif

Nope wrong...
Maybank can issue both Amex card and American Express card, while American Express can only issue American Express card.
Short to say, Maybank works like an agent for them.

Not really. In United States, there are many AMEX credit card issued by AMEX itself as well as AMEX credit card issued by Bank of America.
Actually there is only VISA Electron but no Mastercard Electron. There is however a debit Mastercard version.
*
Oh ya....
Mastercard is not called Electron...

Cant remember la all the term..

Isn't it "ignorance unless proven guilty"? So in this case, it is up to the card company to prove your guilt.
