QUOTE(eddievh @ Jun 30 2009, 10:22 AM) May i know which bank offer free damaged card? I read from previous forumer post sometimes card get stolen they also insist wanna charge Rm50 That was UOB. Circumstances is different coz the bank consider lost as negligence and they have to regenerate new card and block the old one. Damaged card is via wear and tear. You can try calling (please don't threathen) your bank and explain your problem. Normally you should be able to get a replacement. If they refuse, just cancel the card or wait till your card replacement is due. (Hopefully that's not too long a wait)UOB is very rather weird about PIN replacement either. Their system seems can't generate a new PIN without cancelling your old card. Folks who lose their UOB PIN beware ... the bank may charge a fee for PIN replacement. Just last week i complained that the chip no longer can be detected (tried it at several different places) but surprising the CIMB CDM can still read the card when i went to make the payment 3 days ago. Thought the card's good to go now but guess what ? Once the card's out there's a crack on the right near the magnetic strip QUOTE(hye @ Jun 30 2009, 10:41 AM) UOB is very rather weird about PIN replacement either. Had the same problem with their ATM card a while back. Was told they couldn't reset the password and they have to cancel the old ATM card and issue a new one. Assume it is the same for their credit card. |

If read-chip failed, it takes the mag-stripe reading ? Anyway, you can cut the mag-stripe at near edge corner away (e.g. 5mm each way) and the card might still be readable normally. The data is mainly kept in more centre portion about 60-70mm of the 86mm full length. |

QUOTE(MilesAndMore @ Jun 30 2009, 05:30 PM) 2cm horizontal (parallel) to the mag-stripe ? Or vertical ? Or diagonal ?If horizontal, the mag-stripe may still work, as it needs only 2 tracks (each ~2.8mm in height) to work for CC. Total has 3 tracks, hence mag-stripe is ~9mm in height. Nevermind, getting technical already If you got too much free time tongue.gif bring some cello-tape + scissors + 1 dummy plastic card to CDM 1) Cover 2-3 layers cello-tape onto the chip. The chip is contact-smart-card, i.e. need to contact to read the data in chip. Try in CDM if can detect or not. If detect, means it uses magnetic as secondary. 2) To disable the mag-stripe is a bit more difficult. Even if covered, magnetic reader can read through it. The most fool proof way is to cut the entire mag-stripe away, Nevermind, forget all the above. ---------- *Edited* Actually step 2 above should be step 3. The middle-step is to use a high strength magnet (e.g. Neodymium magnet) to erase or make the card faulty. Perhaps the mag-stripe is a REQUIRED criteria to read the card ? Dunno about this coz actually SCB Malaysia can issue Infinite to their customers but need to maintain a RM300K deposit with them. I find this slightly outrageous coz they just raised the qualifier by RM50K from the initial RM200K.Standard Chartered Singapore is now issuing complimentary VISA Infinite to their Priority Banking customers. RM300k makes sense actually, since in most other countries the entry level is ... erm for example Citibank Thailand, HSBC Thailand and even Standard Chartered Thailand require you to have THB3 Million (about RM300k) in deposit with them to qualify for Citigold/Premier/Priority Banking.Citbank/HSBC/Standard Chartered Singapore entry level is SGD200K (about RM490k) Citibank/HSBC/Standard Chartered Hong Kong entry level is HKD1 Million (about RM460k) Citibank/HSBC/Standard Chartered Taiwan entry level is TWD3 Million (about RM300k) Just to compare only lah |

Actually DA was a spin-off from Southern Bank, which was then bogged down and sloggish in order to improve services for personal banking thus taking out the corporate element and other unnecessary obstacles related to full fledge banking. It took off very successfully since it has a different management composition and it was them who introduced the first plat card to malaysian shore and not Southern Bank. It's time for CIMB to drop DA brand. When CIMB took over Southern Bank, they too saw the wisdom of maintaining the independance of DA, which surprisingly has a much better card portfolio ie. much much lower repayment issue and provides better ROI than the generic CIMB cards. In fact the so called prestige CIMB cards today are a direct legacy from Southern Bank as otherwise they will still be another Bank Simpanan kind of card issuer. Further, they both have individual card centre and staff fyi. And for a lot of graduates/professionals, they are indeed proud to hold the DA cards as opposed to the generic CIMB cards as it truly differentiates them. So in a way, the DA card label is actually even more prestige than CIMB's generic label, which will ensure its here to stay for quite awhile This post has been edited by tgeoklin: Jul 1 2009, 08:08 AM |

1. Free for life 2. Give rebates instead of points or give rebates for petrol. Excluding DA or CIMB cards. Thanks. |

QUOTE(cute_boboi @ Jun 30 2009, 11:44 PM) What's so special at the threat fair? Any good freebies? The new Amex gold cc might be promoted at the event.QUOTE(tgeoklin @ Jul 1 2009, 07:51 AM) Actually DA was a spin-off from Southern Bank, which was then bogged down and sloggish in order to improve services for personal banking thus taking out the corporate element and other unnecessary obstacles related to full fledge banking. It took off very successfully since it has a different management composition and it was them who introduced the first plat card to malaysian shore and not Southern Bank. Personally, I don't think having 2 entities selling the same concept within the same organisation is good in the long run. In today's challenging market, cost efficiency and branding are crucial to successful management. So in a way, the DA card label is actually even more prestige than CIMB's generic label, which will ensure its here to stay for quite awhile In the case of CIMB/DA, they offer same products which may confuse public. If CIMB is worried about losing its market share from existing DA customers in the event that such consolidation happens, the effect, in my opinion, is insignificant. The reason being all the existing DA cardholders are already aware that DA is part of CIMB, with the exemption of a number of retailers and public. Moreover, CIMB has now learnt enough the success story of the "free for life" concept as well cc innovation and marketing. Should such consolidation not happen in the future, CIMB should be more proactive and innovative by creating completely different products for its CIMB cc segment which can distinguish the 2 brands. Just my 2 cents. |
