recently just receive bill from hong leong, charge RM160 annual fee on my gold credit card, call them to waive annual fee give so many excuse like need to ask superior decision etc. today decide to cancel it. But if i cancel now do i still need to pay RM160 annual fee?

You should have asked for the waiver first and confirmed that the AF is removed then only cancel.
To your case, simple ... wait for your next statement and see whether they did remove the AF. If AF is there then ask to waive it by virtue that you are not using the card anymore. Under normal circumstances, that should get it waived.

Remember ask nicely laugh.gif ... do not threathen the CS icon_idea.gif . And we here do not advocate any bad tactics to get your AF waived.

it is normal for CS to refer your AF waiver to "management". Call back Monday ot Tuesday and check if they are willing to waive the AF. For years HLB have been waving my AF and nowdays I call the banks (i.e. HLB, Citi and HSBC) 1 month in advance before the AF is due and follow up few days later.

And as hye, mentioned, no need to threathen, just request for it and then see what happens. If you use the card frequently, your AF should be waived.

I did not suggest to cancel, I suggest to reduce limit your ikhwan card & after that increase limit for your amex card.
By the way I just make a call to SCB CS. He say that I can close the current account attach to JustOne Card. JustOne card will only function as credit card. debit card will no longer work.
*
does that mean once u have close the current account, the justone will function as a credit card and u would not have any more issues with terminals ?

Added on August 7, 2009, 10:46 pmtinkerbel, u need to wait 3 days for the scb to send the password through sms

I don't think so, for that to happen i believe they need to update the data on the card.

Yeah ... I think so too. The problem with JustOne and certain terminals lie with the card itself. I this its the embedded programming on the card, so any changes means you need a new JustOne card.

I have received the final statement from Alliance. The final rate it charged is different from what the CS officer told me before they issued the statement last week. Also, I have compiled the currency conversion on the SAME ITEM purchased (hotel bills) made on the SAME DAY and SAME TIME. I used Alliance MC and SCB MC while my colleague used CIMB MC and HSBC VISA. On the assumption that Alliance did not charge admin fee on overseas transactions, the results are as follows:

Alliance MC = 0%
SCB MC = 2.76% higher than Alliance MC
CIMB MC = 1.80% higher than Alliance MC
HSBC VISA = 2.01% higher than Alliance MC

Conclusion: Alliance is the clear winner for overseas transactions.

Woh, if the above is true then we all have really been scammed by SCB/HSBC etc. Including their merchant charges, they stand to gain 5% minimum on our overseas expenses in just a month, so RM100K they already took RM5K, better than Ah Long lah hmm.gif

As usual, my online statement only shows a lump sum and doesn't show the details of conversion. I called SCB to inquire about how the bank undertook the currency conversion but the CS staff couldn't give me an answer. It seems that SCB charged more than 1% as indicated in its T&Cs on overseas transaction. Luckily I can get reimbursement from my company.

HLB CCs are not free, but you can request to get AF waiver. I owned HLB cc many years, and I usually called them asking for waiver 2 months in advance of the AF due date every year, although I was having a home loan with HLB. It was indeed very troublesome. Finally I cancelled the cc few months ago as its cc promotion and benefit were not that great lately. Nevertheless, HLB CS is quite good.

Yes. I paid about RM9k in one receipt using SCB Just1 and I've so far spent >RM15k on this card. Good enough for auto waiver of AF next year. tongue.gif

winner, I missed your above addedon post until tgeoklin quoted it. Thanks bro for the info.

Alliance Bank is indeed great for overseas transaction and it give 2x reward points for overseas too. However the CS is bad, the worst I must say. All the CS got no authority and only rely on what the computer screen shows and don't follow up on queries.

winner, you should consider DA/CIMB VI as it gives 1% rebate for overseas transaction.

HLB CS is indeed good. Last time I had a query, the same CS I spoke to called me up personally the next day after checking. Somemore got Plat Tol Free line. So far only once spoke to a HLB CS who was blur but others very helpful.

I think you should follow up to determine how they charge irregardless that your company is footing the bill. You can probably claim back the differences if they are not adhering to their terms & conditions mad.gif

@tinkerbel
last time i went to the branch and hv them updated my mobile phone number in their system (even though mobile phone was clearly stated during the cc application), only i can register for the online banking

@winner
i was not able to add any bills until i phoned up the CS sweat.gif

@tgeoklin
it's always difficult to argue with them, they'll tell u the conversation rate is difference as the posting date for different cards will be different
that's y i think BNM should ask all the banks to show the conversion rate and the admin charges clearly on the statement

Is the rebate promotion on overseas transactions for unlimited period or temporary in nature? On top of the rebate, does DA/CIMB VI give reward points too?

I am planning to write to SCB by attaching the statement from Alliance. The 2.76% difference is really too much!

As mentioned by some forummers, SCB no longer promotes Just1 cc. Don't know the suspension of new card issuance is temporary or forever.

hmm according to the CS. The card is suspended due to "technical reasons" apparently the issue is that there are still some terminals that cannot read the Just1 card. Since i'm an existing Just1 holder i did ask if they were going to send new cards to replace the old ones but the CS doesn't know.

You can't get instant approval for SCB online banking. I was also in a puzzle when SCB told me I had to wait for at least 3 workings upon request. Perhaps it is a new policy of SCB. SCB isn't as efficient as what you think.

I need to clarify this. What I mean is making payment online using SCB cc at SCB online. You need to wait for 3 working days or more to get the system activated.
*
Hmm i think i have a similar problem to registering for SCB online.

It is true that SCB isn't really that efficient summore it is an international bank! Really not at the level of service I expected them to be.

1) My card was delayed.

2) Their CS quality is really poor (compared to DA for me)

3) I went to the branch yesterday to change the PIN so i can register online and make bill payments on Fridays. I keep getting an error saying invalid ID/PIN now the CS say they'll put in a manual setup request which will take 5 working days??!! and my bills can't wait till next Friday already... zzz

Scenario 3 is quite confusing. Anyway, why the hassle ? They should just call it "Combined Credit Limit" like other banks rclxub.gif

CIMB Bank VISA Infinite gives you cash rebate. There is no reward point. For local spending, the cash rebate is 0.5% and 1% for overseas transaction.

CIMB Bank Classic/Gold/Platinum/World Mastercard will give you reward point instead of cash rebate. You'll be given 1 reward point for every Ringgit charged, be it locally or overseas.

Exactly the same problem I faced last time. It took 3-5 working days. What to do...you have to pay your bills using other cc and miss the 5% rebate.

I just look at my saadiq saver account, in July they still pays about 1.5% interest.
Just a note, Saadiq $aver has been reduced to 0.5% now for balance between RM0 - RM100000. As for e$aver account, it's been also further reduced to 0.4%, down from 0.7%. Going to close my e$aver account on Monday and transfer all the money back to my Public Bank account sad.gif Too bad, because i really liked them ... (for their savings's interest rate laugh.gif )
